Is RPM Really That Important? Why Your Motor Specs Should Always Match.
Would it work if you just replaced your 825 rpm motor with one that is say, maybe, 1075? It's not a good idea, and here is why.

Can i use a 1/4 hp 1075 motor to replace a 1/3 hp 825rpm motor? My tech did this and it has been overheating. He doesn't seem to think the motor size is the problem, any suggestions?

The motor RPM and horsepower are both a problem if you're using the original fan blade. If he put you on a 1/4 1075 motor, you would need a smaller/lower pitch fan blade.

I understand about rpm, would the horse power matter as much?

It is important, but you can play with it a little. You can go up a little in the lower HP fractional motors. If you need a 1/5th, you can use a 1/4 with no noticeable issues. If you need a 1/8, you can use a 1/6. As you get to higher HP, you get less wiggle room. I wouldn't use a 3/4 for a 1/2.

Replacing a 15 year old outside condenser motor in Florida. Real problem matching size and specs. Found one advertised as direct replacement BUT original is 850 rpm replacement is 1075 all other specs match. How bad do you think this is going to be? I know I am wrong but it seems like faster would be better.

So sorry I didn't see this before, I didn't realize that my comments were turned off! When replacing a 850 (aka 825 rpm, 810 rpm, 900 rpm all the same thing) What I would do (just for future reference, since I know this is a late response) I would go with a 2 speed motor and only use the low speed in a pinch. The main issue with going with a higher rpm is the fan blades are designed to go 850, so adding speed to that can cause the fan blade or motor to go bad prematurely. Hope this helps and sorry again for the late response!

Thank you for the reply but this is Florida and I needed relief. Installed higher RPM and is running great. @@opentopublichvacschool

Hello, Can a 1075 rpm fan motor be used to replace a 1100 rpm fan motor?
@opentopublichvacschool
Жыл бұрын
Yes, in fact that is the same RPM. It's a 6 pole motor, which is the same as 1200 rpm which is the same as 1075. It it's over 900 rpm, then it is a 1200 rpm motor. RPM is figured by 7200 divided by the number of poles in the motor - so the options for residential fractional horsepower motors are 4 pole (1600rpm), 6 pole (1200rpm), and 8 pole (900rpm).
