It was the engine that was incredibly strong due to the fact Merc received the docs for engine regs back in 2007? (IIRC, could be wrong on the year #) and so they built an engine that was way ahead of anyone else on the grid. The car itself was average otherwise, just like they have been since 2022.

Dude all this time I was waiting for Max to catch up, but holt crap 2seconds is like a lifetime on this track

The visuals are amazing but next time could you zoom out when another car is out of frame cause its nice to the difference in their racing line

Different regulations, completely different cars. Of course W11 is quicker. Even the alpha tauri of 2020 had quicker time than RB20

pfff, this'll age like milk. . . it was 4 years ago. remember how much faster the braun was than everyone else in the turbo intro era before they then dropped it in regulation? Things only get better man, not worse, no regu.ations are going to get in the way of that

The Mercedes W11 is basically a modern day Ferrari F2004. It was just that good and more importantly reliable too

I would love to see a comparison between the VCARB01 and the RB20 to see how much a lower midfield car with the same engine and many shared components fairs against one of the most dominent cars ever. Great video!

My heart rate when RB20 almost overtakes W11:📈📈📈

Marking almost a second of distance in 1 corner is crazy

So accurate. I still remember when Hamilton literallly drove a lap and a half on 3 tires and still won with Verstappen barely making it close to him. Insane how far ahead always in those races. Even in 2022 the W13 when Verstappen barely won Ham was dominating that last race and it took a miracle and even then Max struggled to keep at bay a Ham on old hards while on brand new softs. That W11-W13 were nuts.

The difference in driving, Max to optimize speed coming out of the corner, Lewis optimize traction coming out of the corner to profit from OP engin.

Hats off to mercedes engineer for creating such a powerfull engine. It is such technical wizardry which makes f1 interesting.

W11 could solo every grid in 2024

Track limit rules weren't "different", they were ignored when the Race Director wanted to ignore them, and enforced when he wanted to.enforce them.

5 years development vs 3 years.

it's funny.. I had a debate with many people when 2022 cars were introduced and when I see lap times, I was claiming this car has a chance to close a gap with 2020 cars by the end of this regulations and everybody was saying I don't have a clue... I am sure if we only have one more extra year with this regulations that ground effect would match 2020 times.. It is crazy considering that cars are 50kg heavier and also if it wasn't for ride height nerf maybe even in 2025 we would see some records broken..

Track limits were not different. They punished everyone except Lewis then. I remember them giving lewis a warning at the end of the race wen there was like 10 laps left while giving everyone a warning within the 1st 20 laps

bahrain is the only track that both the 2020 and 2024 F1 has raced in.

Even the 2020 Racing point is faster than the rb20, it is simply because the regulations of those cars already made them directly faster than the current ones.

They didn’t crash, this must be a simulation of some kind

We don’t give enough credit to the engineers that build these cars. Great drivers are not great without a great car underneath them to pilot. Put the best driver of their era in the worst car of their era and they wouldn’t be able to perform at such high levels. It’s a trade off between great talent and great machinery.

One thing of note here is that Bahrain 2020 took place at the end of the season where W11 had gone through whole season of development whereas RB20 is brand new. Therefore actual difference would be less than this.

Im new to f1 and from what I have understood, Lewis is very good with light cars with a good engine. And if I'm right w11 was his perfect match.

People arent even mentioning the fact that the Merc hit the track limits multiple times... that lap time wouldn't even be close to what it would get with todays rules. It would still beat the RB though, especially with DAS

I think if the 2024 cars had the same spicey fuel settings it would be pretty close

2026 is the season for you then

We also have to consider that Mercedes was already well developed (third-to-last race), whilst Red Bull is effectively a base spec car.

RB20 is a race car not one lap, we have to do race laps comparison.

W11 is on rails!

we will never know about lewis putting the w11 to full capacity

W11 can't be matched with any other for many more years to come

why the pointless title?

W11 is the best F1 car since Hybrid era. But as new reg. RB20 should destroyed old reg. on the straight speed.

...and the RB16 from 2020 was only 0.4 slower in Q3, so basically RB20 doesn't stand a chance compared to his grandpa... Those cars were really fast!

Yo ik it's a too much to ask but the movement of steering wheel like moving it left and right for respective turns would be amazing but apart from that amazing!!
