Him starting to ignore her as time goes symbolize that looks are superficial and relationship based on it doesn't last. Her being reluctant to go down is a metaphor for pretty women being used to the abundance and ease, why suffer and make effort like regular women who aren't pretty and have to make effort for living and relationship.
