    Yeah, I duly agree, pretty impressive from Jonas. If I were to predict based on his performance today, it would be Jonas. I got in a sweat just watching this 😀 I just hope that one of his big lieutenants - being Wout - does not have to drop out. The bike handling is scary ... crashing but not taking a whole peleton with you.

    Never seen Pogacar start to eat after a stage like that before. He was empty, if that last climb was any longer than Pogacar would be in trouble. And soon the long climbs are coming. So he better prepare. I have written this before, that Jonas will ride himself into shape and might beat Pogacar in the last half of the Tour. Cause that's where the long tough climbs are and the temperature might be warmer. Today was actually a stage that normally is in favor of Pogacar. Shorter steep climbs that favors Pogacars explosives over Jonas even hard pace. And that all the UAE except for Pogacar is blown away on a relatively easy mountain stage as today should worry them. Same with all the other teams really. But UAE has on paper the strongest team in the mountains this year. Abrahamsen will still be riding in the polkadots tomorrow since the only one ahead of him on it is Pogacar in yellow. And he might go in a breakaway tomorrow to pick a few points on the 3 small climbs to be holding it for a few more days. He only need 3 points to keep the polkadots until saturdays stage.

    They finished the stage 45 minutes before the predicted time. Energy can be managed throughout the stage. If he didn't go hard early and saved energy, he likely would have ended up in the same spot. He was testing Jonas to see truly where he was and they are both very close.

  • @denisspratt926

    @denisspratt926

    17 күн бұрын

    @@CoopMauKona Yes he would probably have ridden with Jonas the entire way then. And he had to test him. But you also saw him beaten for the first time in sprint on a mountainfinish by Jonas. And that he started eating much sooner than normal after the finish. So Pogacar was on the limit in the end there. There´s no doubt about that. But it is so much fun to see that Jonas is up there already. And Remco and Primoz is not that far behind. So anything can still happen. But personally I think that Jonas will just get stronger the next few days. And be as good or better than last year when we get to the weekend.

    I don't know who's responsible for strategy-making in UAE and how they're planning for the TdF. Sometimes I feel like it's not that they underestimate Jonas/Visma, it's just that they don't know HOW to plan, plan for the worst. I remembered at one point Pogi said he thought Visma was underplaying their preparation. Then if you know this, you should prepare beforehand! Ride hard but also ride smart. So many issues emerge in E11 today. The timing of the attack, the lack of timely nutrition support, etc. If UAE continues like this without any adjustments, I'm 100% sure Jonas is going to win for the third time this year.

    I may be a Pog fan, but I think he just left it a little too late at the finish line, it was uphill. After all the pulling he had done he just waited a little too long to win it at the end, which was his plan all along. He and Jonas dropped all the other riders, he didn't need to beat Vingegaard by much to get the bonus points on the Cat 1 and he thought he would get them at the end as well (and should have). You guys (and all the media) put too much emphasis on who wins by .01 seconds. Pog played a great race (and may have had some mechanical issue as well, but was told that dealing with it would cost him the race). Last year Pogacar lost it in one race in the mountains, this was not the same thing. Jonas is amazing, but Tadej knows it.

    I think the reason why UAE was pulling hard was the calculation that up untill know we have all had the feeling that it was in week three Jonas would be most dangerous and 100% "on form" so Pogacar still had a feeling that this stage would provide him with an opportunity to take a little more time. Had he succeeded in taking another 30 seconds plus seven bonus seconds he would be pretty close to a two minutes lead and many of us would consider that enough for him to hold on in week three. Hell, he might even have taken half a minute more, why not? It's easy to say now, that Pogacar should not have spent those matches today, but hindsight is 20/20. I don't think it was that wrong to try. But apparently we have already reached the moment where Vingegaard is too strong to be taken in this way. Now Pogacar has two days to recover and get ready for the weekend. And after the weekend there is four more days to recover before the final three nail biters.

    I think Tadej wants to gain significant time to Jonas up to this point because he knew that when the stage when long climbs approached he can possibly lose a lot of time to him. So he is trying to gain a lot to time and limit the damage later on.

    A little disappointed in the analysis. It was very brief even tough a lot of things happened. No mentioning of Jonas’ continued struggle on downhills (I hope he gets over it), or Remco and Roglic. I don’t think Vingegaard is 100%, just that his 90% is still good enough to be a contender for the win.

    Tadej is actually right, that its intelligent for him to be in the lead now. Coz his best stages to gain time on Jonas was San Luca, Galibier, the first TT, the gravel stage and this stage, which was perfect for Tadej. Meaning he now has his best chances to take time behind him. Doesnt mean, he cant take more, but those stages favored him the most, so ofc he had to try to take as much time as possible. Personally I think, he went too early today. It wouldve been better to wait until the last climb and do as on Galibier. But they mustve felt, they needed more time b4 the big mountains. Coz come the weekend and the Pyrenees, that terrain fits Jonas better, at least the normal Jonas. And the last 3 stages are perfect for Jonas. So if Jonas keeps improving, Tadej may be in trouble, 1:14 isnt much. But we all knew, this Tour would be decided on the last 3 stages, when the route was announced. The question is, has Tadej banked enough time? And will Jonas keep improving from his injuries?

    I love vini but what is expetionnel is this fight betwin two type of racing. The old style more "animal" cycling with many attacks and the "smart one" by thinking when it is the time to attack and to defend. In my opinion no one can compet with the animality of Pogi exept the brain and determination of vini. With his huge injury, I think the presence of vini on the tdf is a victory it self for him. Thanks to the these two monster for giving us one of the best TDF so far in the modern history of TDF.

    I do wonder if Tadej is trying goad Jonas into burning matches. His main efforts were either before the rest day or a recovery/flat stage. Only time will tell of course. But I’m pretty sure Tadej’s comments toward Jonas after the gravel were trying to get him to spend energy. I’ll be curious how Tadej will race just before the last rest day

    The sad point is that UAE and Pogacar are not learning strategy and nutrition. Two years in a row their power versus strategy did not work. Yes, I enjoy Pogacar style, but Visma is way away on strategy and nutrition, 1 min lead is too little for the last three stages of the Tour, assuming he burns his candles further. Jonas's approach is not to lose more time and strike in the last days of the tour, knowing well that Pogacar has not the patience. We all assumed that Jonas worked hard, and was back on a good performance, otherwise, he would not have joined the Tour, on this stage, he stopped pretending, and he showed that his dedication to the sport paid off. All who like road racing are looking forward to this battle of style.

    I still don't get why people are saying that Jonas winning this stage is good for the race. It's not. Pogacar needed to take more time today to keep the gap tight in the end of the three weeks. With this slim a lead, Jonas will win by at least 6-8 minutes in the end. With the form they showed on stage 11, Jonas wil be in yellow if not after stage 14, then 15 at the latest. I think the only thing Pogacar has left going for him is the fact that Visma doesn't have a great team this year. They can't hurt him quite as bad as last year and the year before, but Jonas will take time on him on those longer climbs by a lot.

    My question is: Did Pogacar's Giro win only one month ago incur enough deep fatigue to slow him down in the second half of the Tour? He has more than a minute lead, and he knows how to maintain it, but the human body, even Pogacar's, can only do so much, then it shuts down in self-defense.

    Jonas sent two messages today to the race leader first by reeling Pog in slowly, second by beating him in the sprint by a hair. Pog may respond by expending/wasting even more energy in coming days so Jonas can continue to reel in the gap seconds - I predict the final time trial will decide the winner.

Or is absolute normal, that you get severely injured, and you have to put all your energy into the rehab and shortly afterwards you train for a few weeks, instead of a serious preparation for THE BIGGEST CYCLING RACE of the year, and just like this you race one of the best athletes in this sport in his absolut top form and win a stage like that??? The media look too quickly at time gains and losses. The tour is about cumulative fatigue to the GC riders and the team. Despite not getting a bigger lead, UAE have forced the other teams to work harder than they would have. Maybe on another day, Jonas would have gotten back 1 minute on this stage, whereas today he only get 1 second. Pogacar is riding how he needs to ride to pressure a pure climber like Jonas.
