I love how so many people in the comments are paying tribute to Patrick by quoting him. They're remembering him for what he used to be, not for what he became in later seasons. It's honestly really wholesome.

it's the thing about completely new writers coming in they take a trait of a character that is well known and then make it the only thing about them patrick was stupid, and it's what people knew him for, but it wasn't the only thing about him, now he's stupid and nothing else

My Parents used to say that cartoons would make me stupid, until they found out about THE LAST AIR BENDER. They realized that these animated fictional characters had the capacity to teach moral lessons that carry into my later years. Even though I still enjoy watching these shows to a degree, they asked me why I don't like as many cartoons anymore. I told them "It'd probably make me stupid."

"Now firmly grasp it in your hand!" Dunno why that specific bit sticks out to me so much, but the phrase "firmly grasp it" passes through my brain at least a few times a week. Also that bit with SpongeBob teaching Patrick to open a jar, while not a Patrick quote, is a frequent bit that gets passed around in my house. My dad, brother, and I were always big SpongeBob fans, but my mom couldn't stand the show, yet she's seen that bit and will quote it to one of us whenever we're trying to do a task and just not doing it the way she wants. She'll repeat "The lid, the lid, the lidlidlidlid-" until we do it right. It's a silly in-joke in our house.

That last line is a bit hypocritical, when there’s a scene earlier in the episode (a deleted scene for a good few years, but still) where he basically asks SpongeBob to come outside with him and Sandy. Why would he suddenly become serious a few hours later when he didn’t care about SpongeBob’s essay beforehand?

Or it could be that it was part of SpongeBob’s dream in the episode, did Patrick even know that his best friend had an essay to finish to begin with?

I would have been so much happier if Patrick just ASKED THE EMPLOYEES why they get to eat ice cream on break and they'd say it's mandatory. Or maybe even Patrick asks if he can have some, where they'd explain that if he wants to eat ice cream he should get a job, then elaborate that they literally mean you can have the ice cream on the job. Then again, those are examples where he interacts with them, if they wanted to reveal the concept without the employees acknowledging Patrick, your way is much better.

I really miss when Patrick was just a chill to the max guy who SpongeBob would come to for advice even though he doesn't know anything about the situation either but even then still does his best to try to piece together something that makes sense to him and help his friend he wasn't outright stupid he was just very naive

when I think of unfunny modern Patrick I remember the episode where he ate Squidwards vip ticket thing to a concert and was eating other objects just for the sake to ruin Squidward's day. also a Patrick quote I quickly think of: "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma"

here in germany for most of my friends patrick died after the 7th season, since the voice actor got changed. the new voice actor really added onto patrick just being rude and not having a brain
