Is Paddy Mayne The Most Revered Figure In The British SAS?

Paddy Mayne changed the art of war. When going on a task to do as much damage as possible to the enemy,he didn't take the " officer and a gentleman" ideology with him. He saw every single piece of equipment and materials and personnel as an asset to the enemy...... for example, going deep behind enemy lines and assaulting an airfield he had no problems blowing up the aircraft and storage buildings ,nor did he have a problem bursting into a mess hall or living areas and killing everyone in sight ( eating, sleeping armed or not) because aircraft technicians were just as much part of the objective as any aircraft........ As far as he was concerned keeping the enemy on the ground saved British and commonwealth troops lives......... Paddy and the SAS troops were just as much responsible for the victory in north Africa as Field Marshal Montgomery.......

Now THAT is what I would call a treasure chest... to sit down and go through Paddy's war, his inner thoughts and the things HE considered important enough to keep... that's priceless.

Unfortunately the 'establishment' of the UK is stuck in the era of empire and dislike all who dare and win if they don't kiss certain arses. T.E. Lawrence also should have gotten the V.C. (Lawrence of Arabia as he's better known).

He was a rugby player. The game is played by gentlemen (I don't mean toffs, I mean people who treat players and supporters off the pitch as equal human beings). Once on the pitch, especially pre professionalism, anything went; biting ears off, gouging eyes, stamping on players with metal studs, clothes lining, spear tackling or just plain old booting them in the plums and upper cutting them as they double over (out of the refs vision obvs!). I wonder if that formed his combat ethos or contributed to it, or had nothing to do with it and he was just good at both things?

That presumes you know what the truth is. An investigation alone is not proof of anything. The investigation hinges on the claims of their enemies.
