Is NBA Tired Of Europeans Dominating?

Is Domantas Sabonis the most disrespected NBA player? In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas analyzes how a player who’s leading the NBA in triple-doubles, rebounds, while also being in the Top 10 of assists and field-goal percentage did not make it to the All-Star game in Indianapolis. Biggest snub ever?

One stat that is VERY telling, which I was hoping you would mention is EFF. It takes into account your points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and takes away from the stat for missed field goals, missed free throws and turnovers and is divided by the number of games you played to get your overall average in efficiency as a player. Compare the NBA season leaders in EFF to the all star roster. It is almost identical 1:1. EXCEPT of course Domantas Sabonis, who is tied for 5th place in the entire league and is not even on the bench! EVERYONE in the top 14 by EFF in the league is an all-star, most of them starters except for him. It is also revealing of which few players are past their prime or not really good enough to make the cut, but did so because of the media hype around them, either due to past accomplishments or making a significant improvement to their game this season, even though they are in 20s, or even 30s spots by EFF. And couple of the ones you pointed out, KAT = 24th(with 24.4), Paul George = 41st(with 21.7) . Yet Sabonis (with 34.4) didn't make it.

The Lakers are 9 and the Kings are 8, so it's not that wild and with the pace the Lakers have been going recently, it's not unusual for them to qualify directly between 5 and 9. There's only 3 games difference. 1st of all Sabas does not care himself, I think last year showed he really has no interest in part taking in the circus. 2nd of all Best way to show he was disrespected is by having a good playoff run. Being an All Star for 82 games a year is not enough to be considered a true super star in the NBA. Fox is Clutch AF and he gets just as little love as Sabas. Also I think Allstar Weekend doesn't carry the same prestige it once did, I genuinely don't think the players themselves even care anymore. It's special the first time but after that you realize it's just a show and it's not even that much fun.

I really hate that Domantas is not selected to the All-Star Game... even Rudy Gobert deserved it more than KAT and LeBron/Davis (although LeBron was sure to be a lock...) and Sabonis deserved it more than Rudy! To be honest, the main issue is that there are so few spots for the All-Star Game: it did not grow alongside the number of players in the League, plus there are now more deserving players than before, and especially in the West. The Eastern Conference is weaker especially at the top, while it has more spots because of players getting hurt. Davis and James should have faked injuries to get replacement and rest. Instead they stead and played in an ugly 200+ points game with no interest...

But I think the bigger factors for poor Domantas getting the snub are possibly: a) Sacramento is a small market team, b) Many of the stars chosen ahead of him like Lebron, Davis and P. I kind of understand, because despite growing up in Sacramento and being a die hard Kings fan, I myself underestimated what a stud Sabonis is. I’ve learned to appreciate his undeniable greatness, but he needs to score more. His most glaring weakness is not his Defense. That’s a myth. He’s actually a very active and competent Defender. His most glaring weakness is actually his ISO game. Sabonis is an excellent scorer, but you can’t just throw him the ball when you need a basket. Which is a bit strange considering what a gifted scorer he truly is. So, he really needs to fix that. At this stage, it might be near impossible to completely reframe his basketball identity. But, the scary thing is, he should be twice as dominant as he is. He should be combining 25+ points with his other numbers. He’s better than Jokic. He just refuses to accept that fact. And the only thing people hate more than a loser is a God who refuses to win. Sabonis is unselfish to a fault in the most literal terms. He’s the ultimate team player. But he needs to come to terms with the fact that he’s one of the top ten most talented players on the planet. Until he learns to live with that, some people will always hate his guts. Because, they’ll say to themselves, “If I were a God, I would do more.”

I think the video title "Is NBA tired of Europeans dominating?" is a little bit counterfactual to how the league itself hyped Wemby (A EUROPEAN BIG) to the ends of the earth before the draft. Domas is just unfortunate that he plays for a small market that has the LONGEST PLAYOFF DROUGHT in NBA history, if not in Major US sport leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS). It also doesn't help that the drought ended last season and they're booted out of the first round (by GSW in 7 games).

Is the NBA tired of Europeans and Internationals? Or the Americans ? Since 2017-2018 DPOY : Rudy 3, Giannis 1. Americans 2 MVP: Jokic 2, Giannis 2. Embiid went for 1, not European but still not American... And Harden 1, in 2017-2018 (seems so far) All medias talk about Jokic. Remember Doncic's hype before his Draft, Stephen A and others, dismissing him without ever watching him play in Madrid (it's his job and payed millions for that). Everyone was talking about him. Saying dumb, trash or even scandalous things, but still, he took the spotlight from Trae Young quickly. And just this year with Wemby. I'm French, and thanks to him i can watch the French League on the NBA app. It's easier for me to watch my country's League on NBA TV than French TV... May be americans casuals don't like this that much. And the scandale about that NFL player... "Champions of What?!" About being NBA World champion. Associated with all the US losses last years against European or African countries. Even Jxmy Highroller made a video where, for once, Imo, he had bad takes about that and i Saw a lot of people correcting him. The NBA World champ thing is mentioned now because the gap is closing years after years. This is a whole context and situation.

My conclusion is like it's not because Americans hate Sabonis, but because he's in the west. If he's in the East, do you think Banchero and Randle will be chosen instead of him? Just look at West snubs like Sabonis, Fox, Gobert, Sengun, Harden, Jamal Murray, Zion, Ingram, Kyrie, Markkanen, or even Wemby and Holmgren, it's just show how crazy the West is with talents. And I slight disagree if people say KAT shouldn't make it because if it's all about stats, both Fox and Sabonis will be pick instead of Edwards and KAT because both of them have better stats. But is it fair for no. 1 team in the West don't have any all star?
