Is Mecca In The Wrong Place? (Global Documentary) | Real Stories

Фильм және анимация

The Sacred City presents compelling evidence that suggests the holy city of Mecca is in the wrong location and that the worlds 1.6 billion Muslims are praying in the direction of the wrong city. Mashallah brother well said . That’s what I said too these guys are nothing but Islam hater. Trying to misguide Muslims. I see many Muslims believe this guy rather than all the sahaba that lived with prophet and passed on to generations to generation. These haters Christians should investigate who wrote the Bible and did Jesus died or not .

I think he is talking about a lot of this stuf like the waters of Zamzam in other videos. He didn't say, that he is Christian or is he? There are Muslims of all European ethnicities. And I really don't think, he is trying to confuse anyone. One historic event and suggestion from the dark times, it is hardly a revolution. I hope some Muslim will challange his theories on scientific Level. There are foreign and not only foreign people trying to confuse Muslims, using money, politics, propaganda, greed, populism and such effective stuff. Why else is he using something so little interesting as science? I can be wrong, but he seems to me as a harmless scientist loving history and anybody can study, love and enjoy history and archeology of any place in the world. Look into Europe and USA and ask their Muslims interested in all and any things regarding history. He is certainly not some Umayyad puppet with Bukratis in his pocket. Why didn't any Muslim already answer all the questions he is trying to answer now? You can try it. I am curious about his opinions as well, when Muslim can study vikings and Christians. History as a science can be wrong and is rather an attempt to understand, it's a model trying to Match history and answer questions. I have always thought of Islam and true Muslims like of al-Andalus like of Hadith more than being in clash with people of al-Kitab or being endangered by one scientists, when now Muslims face dangers from millions of places and true division.

In 2017 Salim Al-Hassani, founder of the academic history of technology portal Muslim Heritage, published a highly critical review of Gibson's Early Islamic Qiblas by a subject matter expert on medieval Muslim astronomy, David A. King, author of World-Maps for Finding the Direction and Distance to Mecca: Innovation and Tradition in Islamic Science, many articles on qibla, and several articles in the Encyclopedia of Islam.[4 King argued that early Muslim Arabs were unable to precisely establish Qiblas when building new mosques until later mathematical developments made precision possible. Further, King wrote, many variations in orientation are better accounted for by regional and local practices, imperfect geography, and folk astronomy. King noted Gibson's inadequate grasp of mathematics, citing Gibson's "spherical polygons" (p. 170) as inexplicable. King summarized his analysis of Gibson's work as an "amateurish, non-scholarly document that is both offensive to Muslims and also an insult to Muslim and Western scholarship."

Low budget childish attempt. Quran is a miracle book which is revelation of Almighty Allah in which there is about science and history, medicine, knowledge about galaxy, stars, moon, sun and it tells u about future what is coming and then this guy who spend 1 ticket traveling Jordon, interviewing a local fund raiser person and some other old man sitting near the laptop drawing some parallel lines towards Mecca and Petra can creat any doubt about the origin of Islam in the mind of muslims,!!! Not possible. Kaba was there before Muhammad Pbuh, the tribe of Quraish live there, there fore father graves are there, Safa and Marwa are there, The well of Zam Zam is there the miracle well. If some one built a Mosque at that ancient time some where in the world which is not in the straight line to Kaba little bit right or left degree, how it can prove the kaba or Meca is at the wrong place. There was no compass that time, it was all sun set and sun rise to determine the direction of kaba, islamic calendar is also related to moon but not any compass he is using to draw the lines, which is also parallel coz Petra is in the way going to Kaba from that direction this guy was pointing in the video. Then other wrong thing he says about Khalif names in the starting who brought horses and camels to Petra as he mention 40 to 60 yrs time is also wrong, we all know our 4 khalifs name present on that time. We exactly know where Muhammad Pbuh born, where he die, where was his house, where Is Ghare Hira, and kaba is not the thing we worship its just the direction. 2nd thing he said Quran was change or new Quran or the text was erase, or burn etc etc for his knowledge Quran was revealed verse by verse and the time it was revealed there were many followers who memories it and some write it on the stones or some piece of skin, and Muhammad PBUH was present there at that time. Followers recites for hrs when they pray. It was only assembled as a book and catogarised at the time of Hazrat Uthman in the presence of many eye witness, scholars who memorize Quran from start upto the End, The rest of small small pieces people holding in different areas were order to burn or destroy. There is no other Book like Quran a miracle book which can b memorized from the first letter upto the last 114 chapters in it by any human but only Quran is that book which is revelation if Allah the last Testament and book of miracles revealed to Muhammad pbuh by Almighty Allah. I can judge what that guy is upto but i just want to say nice childish low budget attempt. Try some thing bigger next time with big budget.

Usually I’m better about pausing and double-checking before reacting, but my knowledge of Islam is so shallow that I gobbled up everything he said. I don’t think I support the claims in this video anymore, but I’m also still open to the idea that Mecca may not have been where it is today. It’s likely one of those things that ultimately has to be taken on faith, as with many of the locations described in the Bible.

So it is not about the mosque or the rock, it’s to share the same direction. You cannot pray to a rock or to the mosque, you are supposed to pray only to God/Allah. @@Maya-cz8wr Islamic tradition states that the Zamzam Well was revealed to Hajar, the second wife of Prophet Ibrahim and mother of Ismaʿil. By the instruction of God, Prophet Ibrahim left his wife and son at a barren spot in the desert and walked away. She was desperately seeking water for her infant son, but she could not find any, as Makkah is located in a hot dry valley with few sources of water unlike Petra, so following the order of Allah, Prophet Ibrahim peace be upon him left and when he was a fair distance away from Hajar and their son, he looked back at the Sacred House (Al-Bayt) and as mentioned in the Holy Quran in Ayah 37 of Surat Ibrahim, he made the following supplication to Allah: “O, Lord! I have settled some of my offspring in a barren valley by Your Sacred House so that they would perform the Prayer. O Lord, make the hearts of some people yearn towards them and provide them with fruits for which they would give thanks”. Hajar ran seven times back and forth in the scorching heat between the two hills of Safa and Marwah, looking for water. Getting thirstier by the second, the infant Isma'il scraped the land with his feet, where suddenly the water sprang out. So, unquestionably it was in Makkah, where the sacred house was built. The Moses springs from Petra are different, those came into being when Prophet Musa struck a rock with his staff, and through a miracle from God water sprung forth. Here's what the Quran says about it, Quran (2:60) And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, “Strike with your staff the stone.” And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. “Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.

What is very interesting is the Kaba was a pagan totem which can still be found in parts of India and actually the pagans walked the opposite way round it than they do today - the very concept of the Kaba flies in the face of Islams assertion of polytheism being allowed given this served as a polytheistic shrine system! In 2020, with all the footage we have from the space telescope, we now know, no God with a white beard is out there or this universe is a humanoid dwelling, we are merely a flook of chemistry from our distance from the Sun and having water. All religions are just comfort blankets for morons scared of death and the futility of wisdom in a pointless life!

Its a way of shacking the belief of Muslims in preparation for a secular future for the middle east. The gcc (imperialists puppets) waged a war in yemen presumably against the houthis but its a war against islamists (muslim brotherhood). UAE pays private mercenaries (blackwater and others) to assassinate muslim brotherhood party members in Yemen but not houthis because houthis have a secular plan for yemen which is what america and its puppets (uae, saudi..gcc) want. They even killed mohammed mursi (muslim brotherhood memeber) in prison in Egypt.

    1. Dan Gibson said that the name "Makkah" (or in the video spelled "mecca") only mentioned once in the entire quran. Other names are associated by Muslim scholars to the name of Makkah. Like "Bakkah" (becca) for example. Let us examine this. The name "Makkah" is a modern pronunciation of the ancient word "bakkah" means weeping. It originated from the story of Hagar and Ishmael. This story is also mentioned in the Bible. See the story of "Be'er Lahay Roy" (The Well of Lahay Roi) or we called it today "zam-zam" in the Book of Genesis. This theory also affirmed by RAMBAM (Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon - or Maimonides) when he wrote about Psalm 84:3-6. 2. In the Quran chapter 2: 144 it was mentioned: "Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque." The Sacred Mosque (Masjidil Haram) is the Kakbah (the Black Box) located in Makkah. There is a narration about this verse when the Prophet prays towards Al-Quds (Palestine) he turned his back from Kakbah. This happened when the prophet was in Makkah. 3. Dan Gibson also stated that "every muslims should pray towards black rock/stone in mecca." Well, again you should do your research well Mr. Gibson. Kakbah is not only a "Black Stone" or "Rock". It is a Mosque with a room inside it. It is 13.10 meters high, and 11.03 meters x 12.62 meters square in the inside. So no, it is not a "Rock" or "Stone". Thus it is called "Masjidil Haram" (Sacred Mosque) and not "Hajar" (Rock). There is a rock embedded in it, called Hajar Aswad (the black stone) but it was just a part of it. Not the Kakbah itself. 4. Dan Gibson also mentioned that the Ummayyads and the Abbasids (during a civil war) disputed about the direction of prayer whether towards Makkah or Petra. This theory does not have any historical basis. He criticized the basis of Makkah being the Qibla (direction of prayer) and yet he speaks without any historical evidence regarding a so-called "historical event" :/ It was stated that the Qibla in the Mosque of Umar faced neither Makkah nor Petra because of the confusion. Well this is a conjecture with no evidence at all... This happens all the time in Muslim world, where the directions of Makkah is ambiguous because there is no modern map or compass whatsoever, so they estimated the direction with their limited ability and knowledge. In Indonesia, it happens all the time. So whenever the Sun is on the Kakbah, we see the sun in order to locate the direct Qibla towards Kakbah/Makkah. It is non-sense to say that they deliberately pointed the qibla neither to Makkah nor Petra out of confusion. What's the point then not to face one of them? Did they pray facing nowhere?? Non-sense! 5. From the linguistic point of view, the Quran was revealed in Classical Arabic, in the dialect of the Meccan (though there are some variant recitations. According to a sound hadith - sayings of the Prophet PBUH- there are 7 recitations of the Quran). No connection whatsoever with the Petra or Jordanian people/language. In fact, Nowaday Jordanian Arabic was influenced by that of Classical Arabic, not vice versa. I rest my case.

I am not even a scholar or historian of Ancient Arabian history but a student and still I find it so amusing that we can now pick up a random person and his friend talking to each other and make a documentary about one of the biggest religion of the world, followers of which take pride in how they have a written history of anything remotely related to Islam with credible sources and through numerous traditions. Makkah was never claimed to be a city of huge Importance by Islamic Historians before the advent of Isalm, It was a deserted place where few families lived after Ka'aba was built by Abraham A.S. . Mekkah gained Importance only after Qussay( after whom the tribe Quraysh is named) who gathered Idols from all of the Arabian peninsula and placed it inside Ka'aba in order to bring the people going North from Yemen, It was at a place where not much business happened and nobody would go there if they didn't have all the Idols in one place gathered and so Mekkah became popular only After Idols were placed in Ka'aba and this popularity was the reason Abraha Attacked Mecca, I wonder if this person has a Map from Him. The narrator conviniently forgets to mention if the grapes were locally grown? As there are regions around Mekkah which do grow grapes. Another claim about vegetation in which the person claims that no pores were found in undisturbed land mass Either he is ignorant or trying to deceive as Today the area of Mekkah is larger than It ever was in those period and today we can not find a single undisturbed place of that period if u do find an open land mass which is impossible or hard to find to say the least, Mekkah always had a food shortage and whatever vegetation it had was sometimes not enough for even the cattle, but that does not mean that there was no vegetation in fact there was vegetation and you can search for vegetation in mekkah there is a whole list. About the army now The first army they gathered was around a 1000 persons and that too were not all from Mekkah they had ties all over Arabia. About archaeology We Muslims are worried about the destruction of places like the Houses of Companions, and older Mosques in the region because of Saudi Governments expansion plan of mecca and destruction of heritage in older city area even Unesco released a statement about it, The MasjidAlHaram today is standing over a large part of the older city as JannatUlBaqi was outside of the town which is now inside Masjid complex. I don't know which scholars the channel tried to contact maybe a scholar like they have shown in the video.

Islamic tradition identifies Bakkah as the ancient name for the site of Mecca. ... In Islamic tradition, Bakkah is where Hagar and Ishmael (Ismā'īl) settled after being taken by Abraham (Ibrāhīm) to the wilderness, a story parallel to the Bible's Book of Genesis (21:14-21)(but see below for the biblical geography).

Plus I would bring to light some mistakes and questions unanswered in this documentary, 1. It is “Masjid al Haram” not “Masjid al Haraam”. Har’a’m (sacred) and Har’aa’m (forbidden) 2. how come the floods destroyed the Kaaba of Petra and the rest of the city still surives? 3. How come "Bakkah" is mentioned in the Quran chapter 3 verse 96 if it was turned into "Makkah" mentoined in quran chapter 48, verse 24?4. How come masjid Al Haraam is mentioned being rebuilt in Makkah by the umayyads, (while they should be against doing so, according to this documentary) in an rock inscription 697 AD? Umayyads regained Makkah and rule it from 692 to 750 (that is 58 years), how come they don't rebuilt the Kabba in Petra but in Makkah as by the 697 AD rock inscription? You can view the inscription here. www.islamic-awareness.org/history/islam/inscriptions/haram1 5. No Islamic remains in Petra? 6. Descriptions of the Islamic holy city fits Makkah not Petra. There was scarcity of water in Makkah and flooding occurred when it rained heavily. The pagan temples were destroyed by Muslims and the wall surrounding the city was simple and small, while Petra had dams to store water and hence no flooding occurred. Its pagan temples still survive. Dan Gibson exaggerated Al-Tabari. see kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKOjrqqdfJO-oJs.html 7. several old mosques which don't fit to Dan's theory are not mentioned. 8. this is completely wrong, we never consider oldest copies of Quran unreliable, rather I would consider the oldest manuscripts as the most authentic, hence I usually compare their text with the modern ones, and not a single word differs. Hence I can not deny that the Quran has not changed. 9. this is a big lie, "We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten" Quran 2:106 10. exaggerated, Dan based this on Abbasid history, which he says to oppose. Contradiction. 11. Mecca is mentioned in the following early Quranic pre kufic manuscripts: Codex Is. 1615 I, folio 47v, radiocarbon dated to 591-643 CE. Codex Ṣanʿāʾ DAM 01-29.1, folio 29a, radiocarbon dated between 633-665 CE. seecommons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Makkah_mentioned_in_Quranic_manuscript_Codex_Arabe_331dated_to_652-765_CE_with_95.4%25_probability.png plus these Quranic manuscripts mention the change of qibla: DAM 01-29.1 Arabe 331 12. quoting Abbasid history, which Dan later denies. 13. nothing between small pebbles and mountain cut rocks? 14. Kabba during the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH was made up of alternate layers of wood and stone. This architectural style resembles the Yemenite culture, not that of Petra. I can continue on and on with finding these mistakes, I apologize you would have to read this much, so I'll stop here. I would like if you answer any of these points.Thanks.

In 2017 Salim Al-Hassani, founder of the academic history of technology portal Muslim Heritage, published a highly critical review of Gibson's Early Islamic Qiblas by a subject matter expert on medieval Muslim astronomy, David A. King, author of World-Maps for Finding the Direction and Distance to Mecca: Innovation and Tradition in Islamic Science, many articles on qibla, and several articles in the Encyclopedia of Islam.[4] King argued that early Muslim Arabs were unable to precisely establish Qiblas when building new mosques until later mathematical developments made precision possible. Further, King wrote, many variations in orientation are better accounted for by regional and local practices, imperfect geography, and folk astronomy. King noted Gibson's inadequate grasp of mathematics, citing Gibson's "spherical polygons" (p. 170) as inexplicable. King summarized his analysis of Gibson's work as an "amateurish, non-scholarly document that is both offensive to Muslims and also an insult to Muslim and Western scholarship."[4]

There is something that i dislike about people on mass making public displays of their faith, and that applies to any religion. Spirituality whether religious or not should be something you experience in your pivate moments and between you and the creator that you believe in. As for walking around that rock a certain way it seems almost superstitious. Im sure that i read that the roots of it were originally pagan ? Personally i would like to see a rule where children arent taught any religion until they are 16, other than the basic 10 commandments etc, but thats never going to happen ! i understand that people get strength from religion so i try and see the positives in it as well as the negatives.

And to all the idiots saying that Muslims worship the stones or the kabah should learn a thing or two.. we worship Allah alone and kaabah is our compass so Muslims around the world face the same direction to create the concept of one Ummah and harmony. Secondly all of the old city is under the grand mosque alone..7-8 million people come for hajj each year that would be way more than the whole population of the whole Arabia at that time. so of course the city of a 1000 people wouldnt be as big as makkah is today. Lastly Makkah is mentioned in the Quran 48:24 .. seems like you can get a random dude with his random opinions on film and call it a documentary ... HOW CHEAP

We Muslim believe in one God and yet pray towords the black stone. Basically the principle is the same and we all pray to idol's indirectly. @@BiPolarBear128 Islamic tradition states that the Zamzam Well was revealed to Hajar, the second wife of Prophet Ibrahim and mother of Ismaʿil. Also, about your last statement, I'd like to clarify that Prophet Muhammad PBUH was the last Prophet of Islam he didn't bring a new message but revived the previous true faith of monotheism which had been distorted through time the same faith Prophet Abraham and those that came before him such as Prophet Noah and his forefather Adam PBUH were practicing. After Prophet Muhammad PBUH there will be no other prophet or messenger.

Why is there no archaeology in Mecca? Every time we see a picture of the Masjid al-Haram it is surrounded by huge, modern buildings and many large cranes doing extensive construction. A place as old as you have us believe with all this work going on constantly would have unearthed hugely interesting archaeological finds - instead we have nothing. Not even an old coin. Why?

We don’t face a black stone, just the same direction. There is a black stone but it is not idolized or at least it is forbidden to worship it. Mecca is mentioned two different times in the Quran. The point is not in the actual degrees, just to pray in the same general direction. How people centuries ago missed the exact location is easy ? They sure didn’t have GPS? It would be interesting to see this with more mosques though.

LOL we can see every year during hajj how muslims are 'not idolizing' a freaking stone. They struggle to touch or even kiss it. Driven by superstition that touching the stone expiates sins, or that the stone will speak on the day of Ressurection and give good testimony of everybody who touched it. It is all in your sources. Just look it up and think twice.

  • @astani9

@Lynette Mecca is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad so it's naturally important, but there are also many other things that raise the significance of the city itself. The black stone is believed to be a stone that got to the Earth with Adam and Eve, you can basically call it a meteorite. Only a fragment is in the Kaaba, which people touch since it is from the beginning of our time on Earth as well as a tradition that was started by the Prophet who did the same. However, you are not to pray or worship the stone or the Mecca or the Kaaba.

  • @astani9

@@Lena.9 good use of Google but worshiping is forbidden. What are your sources for it besides Wikipedia? The kissing and touching is a prophetic tradition and nothing more than that. And it is a stone that got down to Earth in times when the first people came as well so it has a huge significance so naturally people do wish to touch it. Some Muslims do worship it and pray to it, but it is wrong. Hajj is more than touching a stone. Besides, where there is a relic of such significance, I'm sure anyone would like to see it and touch it.

  • @Lena.9

Ana 9 The source is your Hadith, there are many islamic sites who lined up the relevant Hadith about the black stone. Just look them up and think again. There is also a beautiful one that state that touching the stone is in fact touching the hand of Allah. If you cannot see that making an object so important is a form of idolation, you are truly blinded. You can say whatever you want about that worshipping is forbidden. Actions speak louder than words.

@@Lena.9 and I guess in your world "symbolism" doesn't exist. Worshiping the stone would mean you believe the stone itself is gonna bring you luck or praying to the stone. The stone is a part of Hajj and a part of tradition and as such holds significance. Touching it means you have performed Hajj, you committed yourself to your faith and renewed in some ways even. It's also a relic that was sent down by your Creator, literally with the first of our kind. You can believe what you like to believe about it. I'm a revert and I also was confused by the ritual of pilgrimage and touching the stone at first, but the more I looked into it the more I understood its significance. It is only a minor part of Hajj that consists of many other rituals.

To know the original location of mecca is actually rather easy because many of the ancient mosques have not been reconstructed, and that is obvious by looking at them on Google Earth. It should be as simple as placing lines on Google Earth from each mosque and finding out where they intersect.

This is not unique in history. The Samaritans are a breakaway sect of Jews and they claim that Mount Gerizim is where Abraham was commanded by God to offer Isaac, his son, as a sacrifice and Judaism takes this to refer to Jerusalem. The Ethiopians created Lalibela to be a new local version of Jerusalem. Even today in Las Vegas (I guess America's holy pilgrimage city) they create fun house versions of other places like NYC or Venice, etc. So Muslims you need to enter the modern world.
