I just played it this week end and was a little confused because the story was over so quickly, and there were story lines that weren't completed. Now that I know its not actually the full version I'm super excited to continue next year when the complete game is out! It was so much fun to play!

I bet that was pretty confusing seeing everything just stop mid story! I am excited, as well, to see where it goes from here. And I wonder if it gains enough traction if it will keep going even after that. But, one step at a time lol I'm so glad that you enjoyed the game!

How so I know when the story ends currently? I'm not sure if mine ended or if I just ran into a bug... // SPOILERS I have 2 houses built already and an order for the fountain but can't seem to hand in the materials for it. Is this a bug or am I being soft-locled out of progressing?

@@theprideling it's most likely a bug, for me the end was [Spoilers] I had to craft a firecracker potion and when I fired it with all the other villagers the title screen appeared and it said "thanks for playing" (or smth like that).

Thanks for the info, didn't know the current game was short and it will take a whole year for it to be fully released, so I'll probably stop playing now because otherwise I'll have a hard time getting back to the full version. That said, I loved what I played so far, minus some mechanics quirks, I've been loving the game. It's very cozy, has nice sprites and cute creatures and plants, and potion brewing is interesting, though I'd love to see a more complex system. Looking forward for the full game, hope we get more locations

Feel like people who don’t like dialogue have never play proper rpgs before, I grew up playing old rpgs and they were full of dialogue it also helps with world building and fits the game.

Very good points! I enjoy world building and I read EVERYTHING in a game, sometimes multiple times in case I didn't catch something the first time but I think that having such an extended time frame of basically just 10 or 15 minutes of talking right as the game begins is a turn off to many players who are anxious to see what else the game has to offer. Plus I've been in enough gaming communities to see how often people will just spam their way through dialogue and then go asking questions in forums that were clearly explained in the game but they were too impatient to read it 😅. So it was a warning to those players lol

A friend kindly gifted me this game. Started playing today and fell in love with its charming pixel art and ost. Its a very relaxing and simple game which is nice change of pace from the larger games I been playing. This review was well spoken and edited very nicely. Good job!

I found this by searching for "Little Witch in the Woods". It was one of the first results to come up! I've been really looking forward to this game for a while now, though I was a little disappointed by the way its been translated when I played a bit of the demo. Your review (which was fair, balanced and well put together) really sparked that excitement and interest in me again and reminded me WHY I've been following the game's development for like a year now lol

I don't know the language you're referring to in regards to translation but I have seen people from different language backgrounds offer assistance in translation, which hopefully will help make the game more accessible and palatable to so many more people!

Excellent video - this came up in my recommended! I completely agree with all the points you've made here :) Highlight for me was potion/candy-making. I also really like elements of the story, but I think overall, the dialogue could be made more concise to avoid people skipping through it or turning away from the game entirely! Maybe it's more a translation factor that should be addressed!

Why thank you so much! I agree that if the dialogue was tightened up a bit to be more concise, it would make a considerable difference. I feel as though the long stretches of conversation will put people off from what is otherwise a game with a lot of potential. I do look forward to more of it!

I agree. They seem to be making a lot of changes so far so I hope they really incorporate feedback not just on bugs but also some of the game design choices that were made. I see they are thinking about including auto save when you leave the home in the morning. It’s not the most fantastic solution but it’s better than nothing! One player I saw lost 4 hours worth of game time because they assumed the game auto saved at certain points.

I randomly came across this game in my steam recommended and really enjoyed it. Im glad to see more people enjoying that art style and overall vibe!

i am, in fact. i should probably get back to that and finish the game. the quiksilver slime race farming was a little boring, and then valheim updated and i, being the gremlin i am, totally forgot about it thank you for sharing!

This game looks so cute! I think I'm going to hold off a bit and wait until it's closer to release before I pull the trigger on this one. But I'm looking forward to it. Great review!

This game really IS adorable! And I do love me a good quest game with lots of missions. That inability to save anywhere tho... that's rough lol. Thanks so much for this video and showing off this game! I don't think I ever would have seen it!

That save is…a pain. And they did add an auto save feature buuuuuut it’s not great. It only auto saves at the start of the day when you leave the house. So it’s a good start but if you do a whole bunch of stuff that day and forget to save, you still will lose a ton. I just save every time I pass by the little bench.

Thanks for your breakdown! The dialogue at the start was a bit much for me (and I love storytelling!) but so far the rest is pretty great. I liked all your points. I ended up grabbing it since it is on the game pass. 😊

All of that dialogue right at the start really put a lot of people off. Like you, I love story-telling but even I was like "let's get on with it!" Getting to play it on GamePass is the best option.

Me seeing that it seems XBox has it on their store but the Switch naturally doesn't: 👁️👄👁️

Switch seems to always be late to the party. But this time I think it's because it's in Early Access still and I don't know if Switch usually carries EA games. They really should, because this definitely fits the Switch.

I know I’ve been waiting on the release for at least 3 years (saw the early trailer) and of course my PC broke before it was released. Fortunately my boyfriend has the new Xbox so im playing it finally!

Brilliant video, agree with all your points here. Playing on Xbox and loving it but now I’m torn between playing it through or waiting for the full release 😫 it’s just so cute!

Thanks for the awesome video! Excited to see how the game progresses further. Question though…. I saw from some people there was a potential Switch release. Do you know if that will ever happen? I’d love to have it on there for me and my wife.

The Switch release, at this point, is just a plan for the future. There is no date or time frame just yet. I think right now they are focused on ironing out some of the kinks in the game and then they will see about porting it to other platforms. I'll be sure to update you all if and when a Switch release is scheduled!

​@@theindiejurnee no problem! So I just rewatched it with full focus this time, it was a lot more clear. But when I watched it the first time without fully focusing I kinda got lost. Perhaps using a title for each section above the words "Play" or "Pass" would make it more clear about what we are going to be talking about so that I am 100% on the same page. You could say the word too, for example: Story, Pass. "There's a bit too much dialogue in this game etc etc etc" I hope that helps. Hey Jurnee, I love games that have a farming and explore feel to it. From an aesthetics point of view I would vote to give it a try. The NPCs also look lovely and colourful and her outfit reminds me of Final Fantasy games which for me is a positive thing. Give it a try, that's my vote.

Oh I am about 5 or 6 hours deep into the game after only 2 days of gameplay...I love it! I'm looking forward to more...it really has potential and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

it's on gamepass too, if you can have it you can try the game. The only issue I had was at the very beginning the character became invisible when it was time to leave the train and I had to reload. Nevertheless it's a great relaxing experience. It almost made me want to begin a first alchemy playthrough in Skyrim (I never used this in my +2000h playtime)

I bought the game on Steam and started playing the day before it came to GamePass so I've been playing quite a bit of it. I'm enjoying the game but wanted to point out the features that might be important to gamers who were still deciding on it. I've heard about that disappearing player bug too, I know they are addressing it

One thing I’ve found is that I hate the controls on keyboard and I don’t have a controller. So I won’t be playing it anymore for now but once it comes out on switch I will definitely consider getting it there

@@theindiejurnee We just survived the slow dialog heavy opening to find out the character took ages to get from a to b. Also; we just had spend 15 minutes of clicking though dialog to stil have no clue about what the story is or what we are supposed to do. We hope the dev will fix this but we got our money back.

I'm glad you were able to get your money back! I will say that the devs have improved the movement speed, there are essentially 4 speeds now (2 walking and 2 broom speeds) so that's better. But I agree that there isn't a whole lot of clarity up front, it takes a bit of playing for things to make sense and many players aren't going to invest that kind of time. I'll keep making suggestions to the devs and following along to keep up with updates so check back with the channel later on if you want to try the game again to see if it might be worth it later. Maybe not until full release.

I'm stuck. The Diane in my game doesn't sell the Witch's Trowel. I'm in the point where mud is required for a task and yet Diane still doesn't sell the trowel! Can anybody else tell me at which point of the game did Diane sell the trowel in your game?

how long is the early access now? does it still stop midway through or did they add so more content before the full release?

They said they plan to release the full game this year, in 2023 and they are in the process of making game improvements such as expanding the home, opening up areas, and improving the encyclopedia. A beta version is available, but it will not be connected to the current save file and it is unclear whether it will be linked to the final version of the game.

so did they ever fix the "removing pesky pumkins" quest. throwing bottles around the house does nothing.

If I buy this game early access, would I have to pay additional for the full release since we get more content?

From what I have read, you will not have to re-buy the game upon full release. It will automatically update.

I don't believe they have given us a time frame on the Switch release just yet.

Loved it. Wish people had more of a personality. They were too nice. But I could tell there was more to uncover. The potions were great, not too easy or too hard. Everything was great besides the fact that it was over too fast. I wanted more, and I was literally annoyed when it said: thank you for playing. It was like a great introduction. But man, I need more.

I agree that I wished they had more personality as well! I like my NPCs to have a bit of spunk to them! I know that the devs are expanding the game but I hope they do it in stages rather than having us wait a whole year to get more. It would be nice to see what happens next! There is a game coming up called Potion *Permit (I mention it in my upcoming farm sims video) and it has very similar vibes as this game but the NPCs are not as nice lol. The demo is still available and it will be a full game release in September…you might want to try that one out if you haven’t already.

@@theindiejurnee I didn't know about it. Thanks for telling me, I will check it out. And I have a feeling that the characters are supposed to be bland in the introduction. Like the cook had a backstory and an edge to him so we might see that developing into something. The kid always played out at night which is weird. The granny is too sweet so idk, ...feel like she'll die haha. And the 'bad guy' who is not a bad guy yet. They have potential. Maybe they were supposed to leave us in a 'everything's fine for now' mood. Idk, we'll see. Thanks for the suggestion again.

Oh! I meant to say “Potion Permit” (Potion Craft is another game and I keep mixing the titles up lol)….but I do agree that there is something developing that isn’t quite fleshed out with the characters. The dragon’s story REALLY makes me want to know more. And I do want to find out more about the “bad guy” and what happens when the witches find out that Ellie is there. So much to discover!

Where can I play this? Will this be available in mobile?

After having to read half the encyclopedia britannica in the opening dialogue between her and her hat I had to give it a hard pass. I don’t read books so I definitely won’t read this game.

I completely understand! That is definitely a huge flaw of the game. I don't mind reading in games but after a while even I was like "let's get on with it already!!!" It didn't even allow players to get into the actual game before making players so bored or annoyed that they quit. I will say, it does get better, but it's hard to get through those long stretches of dialogue, especially at the start.

It's insanely cute but I found it kinda boring. I like to go into games without reading about them beforehand so I was so excited to play a game that was advertised to be like Stardew Valley (my all-time favorite game) but with witches. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the fact that it isn't a farm sim but rather a pretty dialogue-heavy RPG. I'm not sure if I want to refund it or not but I think the only thing that's keeping me from doing that is the super cute art style because I'm not interested in the gameplay or story :(.

I definitely can see how you would find this boring, especially the start...ugh. And I actually hate that it keeps being compared to Stardew Valley because that sets an expectation that this game does not fit. It's like these days every cutesy farm sim or RPG HAS to be compared to SV lol Well you have 2 weeks to refund IF you don't play over the two hours so maybe sit with it through the weekend and decide on Monday what you want to do 🙂 I wish you luck!

a 100% where I'm landing with it too. I watched some clips before hand and assumed they were from later in the game,,,but it really just drops you in the middle of Ellie's story and expects you to follow it instantly. I don't mind the foraging and exploring, especially when it's such a pretty world! But with the chunky slow dialogue, not particularly interesting story, and the hassle of crafting...I found it way too slow and that really keeps me from getting into it :/ we just gotta hold out for witchbrook

Looks something for me to play and relax. Playing Insurgency Sandstorm, Hell Let Loose, Total War Attila, Mordhau becomes tiresome sometimes.

I agree, this is definitely a game to just unwind to. Not as stressful as those others...we all need that sometimes.

omg no auto and only 1 savepoint. imagine your game crashing or finding yourself need to leave suddenly because of w/e reasons and losing maybe hours of progress. I hope they will change or fix that.

There have definitely already been cases of people losing hours of progress 😔. Since this video they have added a semi fix: the game auto saves once an in game day, in the morning when you leave the house. So at least, at most, you'd lose only one day's progress...but that could still be a lot depending on how much you did in that day.

I got this game expecting an action, farming, adventure game. I got the game on Xbox with a game pass. This game is really slow and in my opinion boring, I just like action but that's just me. I wish I had watched before playing.
