IS IT RARE? IS IT REAL? | ANTIQUE RESELLER | VINTAGE BARGAINS

REAL DEALS, BUT FAKE MURANO! | ANTIQUE MALL | VINTAGE VALUES
The great thing about shopping a big antique mall is learning more while you find the bargains! This large emporium near Disney World is a great place to find deals, see unusual vintage items and separate the real true antiques from the pretenders.
So many cool things to explore in this store! Jack Skellington greets us at the front, created by a master forger (as seen on TV). From there, it's off to rows of great old stuff, from western decor and Victorian Staffordshire figures to Disneyana and Old Paris porcelain.
The most educational part of the store comes when we find a case of "uranium" glass that offers a great explanation of what glows under a black light, and why! Next door, we find real Venetian glass, beautiful Blenko and a variety of real and not-so-real Murano glass for us to compare and contrast. (We also find all the "rare" items that really aren't.) I share my hands-on experience so you can better know what to buy, and what to leave behind.
We end on a cliffhanger when we find a good Bradley & Hubbard spelter figure, sitting beneath a giant moose head. Can we get it for a price we can resell for a profit? Stay tuned!
Here's some of the wonderful world of vintage we find near the Magic Kingdom:
Childrens books, cream separator, bar mirrors, Niloak brutalist? teapot, croquet set, dry sink, majolica sardine dish, Buffalo China sailor pitcher, Treasure Craft Poppy pitcher, mens garters, Madame Alexander and My Friend Mikey dolls, green depression glass, Westmoreland ruby open lace bowls, Fenton custard bird, luggage shelving, Venetian glass bird, blackamoor ashtray, Disney band items, American Pottery Pluto figure, Happy the Dwarf sand timer, Disneyland hard hat, Hull Ebb Tide vase, Donald Duck soda rack, Disney movie poster, Shawnee vases, dairy van bank, Westinghouse roaster, Sears Cattail dishware, Royal Copley wall pocket, fireman's hat, Exchange Club banner, Fenton jade dolphin bowl, Little Red Riding Hood cookie jar, pre-prohibition calendar plate, Frankoma Pottery, R2D2 figure, etc.

My son was born in 1985 a few months before my very small Eastern Washington small town got first shipments of Cabbage Patch. A pharmacy ran a contest. I put his name in & he won a boy doll. When I went to pick it up, I was chilled all over. It's name was/is Berkley Webb. My father's middle name was Berkley & my maternal grandfather's name was Webb. Wonderful for a woman & now a son who love little & big blessings without explanation.

George, thank you for bringing up the conversation about RARE. A pet peeve of mine since I've been collecting and selling since the 1990's. Rare is an overused description, in my humble opinion. So glad someone else other than me has pointed out that “rare” is way overused. I also see people using flowery words to describe something and end up saying nothing at all to truly describe the item. I see everyone using paint colors as a description for furniture as well instead of style, time period, etc.

She does! I think the things I look for are how it's finished on the bottom (a smooth scooped out mark where a rough broken pontil mark should be is often a sign of new methods), and whether it feels greasy and slick (new glass holds an oily feeling from the annealing processes they use now).

In some sellers' vocabulary: Rare - the seller only found one last week at a rummage sale/tag sale. Unique - hand-made and who'd want there to be a second one? (Unless it's a mass-produced piece of Chinese junk and the seller is clueless.) If you really want to make me crazy "very unique". (arggh!) 14:45 They still make tabletop cookers although probably not the base. I use mine on an unheated enclosed porch during the summer. Cooks the meat or whatever without cooking us in the house. 18:52 That cat-shaped laundry sprinkler .... somebody did NOT remember that cats don't like water. My cat would not be appreciative.

Hi George! That Paris porcelain vase was really pretty. I've always wanted a vintage croquet set, but that one wasn't priced to sell...to me, anyway. I see the term "rare" used a lot, and I have to laugh at them. I used to have a set of the chalkware genie ashtrays, in the green, but sold them long ago. That "Ebbtide" vase actually caught my eye. I'm not much into "weirdly coloured" animal kingdom items, but I kind of liked that piece. I used to have a Frankoma cookie jar with cattle brands all over it...sold it when I moved here. Great items there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

The Old Paris really appeals to me for some reason! Ebb Tide is an interesting pattern in that they decorated it in about half-a-dozen different ways...all blues, maroon/green, etc. I have had a lot of Frankoma, but not the cookie jar!

@@twistoffate4791 I sold it to a family member, so I didn't ask a lot for it. I think I got $25.00 or $30.00 for it. Edit: That's been almost a decade ago, so I'm not positive of that amount. She has an antique shop, and she was going to resell it, so I'm sure it's long gone by now.

@@TheAntiqueNomad The Old Paris is really nice. The Ebb Tide is interesting, but as you've seen from the photos of the fish planters I've collected, I prefer them to be portrayed realistically. I don't even remember where I got the Frankoma cookie jar or what I paid for it. It was interesting with all of the cattle brands all over it, but it just didn't fit my aesthetic, so I sold it. The colour scheme I liked - tan with the brands in a darker brown - but the motif just wasn't my thing.

I have a question or 2??.. I've TRIED to find this Jewelry set, given to me by an older woman 30 years ago.. She got it in Austria after world war 2. I believe.. It is 'OTTO KOROTIN & SOHN, THE House of Austrian Handmade COSTUME JEWELLRY' BROOCH is 3 flowers enamel painted light blueish the metal still shows on the petals 2 light blue Christals,( I think) center 5 buds painted the center 1 sits up gold in color.. the 2 clip on earrings a flower painted petals a loop below with good set in stone? Crystal set in a goldish color loop. On both. Have you heard of this company? The original box Is like cardboard handmade aged, the jewelry still in the covered coushioned invert that the items clip into.. I could send a picture? If you like.. I've always looked to find out info and can not..& a Siver marked almost triangular pin/ cut in raised metal to use as necklace.. had markings carved into it by a person..front is maybe a king?? Head dress strangely made with like arms sticking up from crown?? Back is ARK. 985 MAYBE A 'C' on it? Its under the pin area. The places in front, no metal has Abalone filler all smoothed in.. My Mother picked up sooo much Costume and real jewelry.. filled a king size bed and MORE in boxes in bags and a big jewelry box WITH REAL Stones..She Died 4 years this may..Any help? Or where I can find info.. I just started flowing you..I APPRECIATE Your Teaching us.. Thank you..🙏🙏🙏🤟

Merriam-Webster said it best: RARE, SCARCE, and UNCOMMON mean being in short supply. RARE is usually used for an object or quality of which only a few examples are to be found and which is therefore especially appreciated, e.g. "He found a rare gem". SCARCE is used for something that for a while is in short supply, e.g. "That piece of Fenton glass is scarce, you don't find them every day but if you wait awhile, they turn up".
