Bleeding between periods is defined as the bleeding which occurs after the period ends, or before the next period begins. In such incidents, a person may notice light brown spotting in their underwear or a heavy flow resembling a regular period.
Causes
The medical term for bleeding between periods is ‘metrorrhagia’. Light vaginal bleeding is called 'spotting’. Bleeding between periods can have a range of causes such as hormonal changes, injury, or any underlying health conditions.
Hormonal contraceptives
Hormonal contraceptives can cause vaginal bleeding between periods which usually only occurs during the first 3 months of using the contraceptive.
If bleeding between periods is very heavy or lasts for longer than 3 months, it may be a good idea to seek medical advice.
Implantation bleeding
Some women experience spotting as an early sign of pregnancy, this is called implantation bleeding.
Termination
An abortion can cause spotting anytime after the procedure is done, irrespective of the periods date.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
Some sexually transmitted infections like Chlamydia (STIs) can cause vaginal bleeding.
Injury
If the skin or tissue of the vagina is damaged, it can bleed. The most common way for this to happen is during penetrative sex. It is much more likely if the vagina is dry.
The body produces a natural lubricant that prepares the vagina for penetrative sex. Vaginal dryness can be caused by many factors including a lack of arousal, changing hormone levels due to menopause, diabetes, or cancer treatment.
Menopause or perimenopause
Menopause usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55. It is marked as the time at which a woman has not had a period for 1 year.
Perimenopause is the period leading up to menopause. This can last for up to 10 years as hormone levels in the body change.
Hormone levels are often unstable during perimenopause. This can cause irregular periods, spotting, and heavy bleeding.
Polyps in the cervix or vagina
Polyps are small growths. They can develop in the uterus or on the cervix, which is the structure between the vagina and uterus. In some cases, polyps can cause bleeding and may need to be removed.
Polycystic ovary syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) causes irregular periods, as well as intermittent bleeding between periods.

I have bleeding more than 10 days now. This is the 1st time it happens like this. But i have history, in 2021 i had done my breast cancer treatment. 2 surgeries, 6 chemo, 30 radiation. I recently got diagnosed with PCOS and started working out. Later, i got my periods 4 days early but no bleeding only spots for 6 days but now i am bleeding only during exercise from my 7th day. I guess its bcz of stress, sudden change in my lifestyle and PCOS, but still worried 😢.

I think I had a prolonged period a couple of years ago I think I was scared of losing blood I always been irregular
I went to a gynaecologist and she asked me to take contraceptive after taking it for a month, I stop my period came after that time I begin to see brownish fluid after my menstruation 🩸, this brownish turn to lighter like you having sex and discharge so I began to worry and I went to the doctor and she said it a bacteria infection, she gave me medicine to be inset but still this discharging is not stopping please what should I do

@@denisealberto9322 as of now they have completely stopped...got them for two days and they have gone by themself...so may be due to stress or because of old blood that didn't come out earlier....but should keep an eye on them next month and if it continues will surely consult a gynaecologist...what have u planned to do?

My wife want to conceive and feel menstrual pain. doctor prescribed her norethisterone tablet i.p 5 mg. While searching online I found it to be a birth control pill. Is the search result right? Should she consume it? Morever this month she is getting blood after 10 days of cycle when mensus stopped in 1-2 days.

Hi doc or whoever is reading and might have an idea about what im going thru pls answer or any guess. So, iam regular with my period ever since ive gotten it and recently i am experiencing spotting a week after my period for 3months now( for every cycle) it only lasts for 3-4 days and it is very light, brown for its color. I am also experiencing light cramps. I am worried if it is normal or not because i cant consult a doctor for such reasons. It only started when i started my biking routine idk.

Please help me🥲 I'm 20years old, This time when my periods started like it was exactly on time(same date) but it started with very dark brownish or black colour and then it became normal but even after 7-8 days I was bleeding and then on the 10th day or so there were spottings but today is 13th day and I guess it's bleeding again and it's not spotting 😱😓😓 What should I do?? What is the reason behind this??? Is it spotting but in an increased amount or bleeding???

@@NehaNeha-im8km honestly speaking I didn't do anything...it stopped normally nd now I'm having no problem. I'd say don't worry, it's 7th day(it's normal) but if u face any further problems even after 10-12 days,then u should consult a doctor if this happens to u frequently.

Hello mam,my relatives daughter has attained menarche in April 2019..the first cycle lasted for more than 2 weeks .Then after one week the second cycle started..it also lasted more than two weeks.then continuously she bleeds the full days of the month till today like two weeks heavy flow and remaining days dark brownish plus spotted blood flow.. she is very weak now.USG shows no problem..what is the reason..what is the treatment ....what foods can help her.. please advice ma'am....waiting for your reply..

Frstly see a gynaecologist, and motivate her not to take stress.Because i feel 80 percent illness is due to stress amd tension.Try to keep her happy .Give her more fruits than any other thing

I am also facing the same problem and I am 17 year old...did you find any cure...or is it normal bcz it is my first time
i had my period from 3nov to 9 nov but on 17 nov i started bleeding, initially that was in too little amount but now the flow increases...i consult to my family doctor and she asked me to take calcium and steptovit-e ....i completed the course bt nth help me...should i go for ultrasound or wht should i do??? plzz help!!!

Mam My period date was 1 august, bt i experience only spotting on 3rd of august and today is my 10th day of spotting...i only feel spotting from first day and this spotting is occuring after 4 5 hours or even after 1 day...i consulted a gynae she gave me vit. D3 n nothing...what shall i do

Ma'am after my periods I experienced some discharge with blood। Later I am experiencing more blood almost like periods with little distarge, ma'am l am really scared doctor had given medicine but it has not recovered even after 5 days of treatment and the flow of blood is in creasing day by day

I had my period last Aug 15 it last for almost 6 days (Aug15- Aug 20) then Aug 28 i had spotting and light bleeding until Sept 2. Now, Sept 12 I had my period again. Is it normal?
