I feel it’s good to take classes, private coaching, work on the voice, practice scenes and flex those acting muscles. But I really don’t think you need to take 3 year of drama school. You’re either an actor or you ain’t, with or without excessive training. An actor will gain a lot even through a 5 week work shop and a non actor will still have no acting charm regardless of his degree in drama school.

This all fine & lovely, but meanwhile these are mostly all nuanced actors. However there are MANY people (especially in this current time of unspeakable hubris among youth) who have this little thing in their head where they crave being known & have a sense that "something just hasn't been seen in them yet" but sadly put them in front of a camera and they freeze, over act or are just not good at it. IF you are possibly that person; go to acting classes, many of them to become used to being on camera & therefore not waste peoples time while you "figure out" what other people who went through the paces already have become comfortable with while time is ticking for the people on set... But if you really are one of those people who are calm as a cucumber when cameras, lights, marks & people are watching & waiting for you; by all means go for it, just make sure that you know this because people whom are not your friends constantly tell you that you inspire them & you are getting hired for almost everything you go out for.

Studying is necessary. Formal study is not. Like anything, you need to DO. You can learn on the job, but even if you’re not on set or have a job, you still need to do it in practice to get better. This is true in all forms of skill. Coding, painting, graphic design, cooking. People who do it all the time get hired. It’s not necessarily about what school they went to, but they did practice those skills on their own.

This comment. GOLD. You learn in the doing but if you're not doing you won't be ready once the opportunity you want comes along.

Notice how every single one of them pronounce every word clearly. They also engage their audience without doing much. On set, directors tell you what they want, and if you practice before hand, you should be okay. Otherwise, just try and get a feel of what they need of you. Past experiences, what you felt when doing something etc. If this helps, try and be yourself, or someone you know, but in the character's situation. All the best, everyone. Edit I did a degree in psychology and I am currently studying the film industry and its effects on its subordinates. I have gotten a few roles here and there, though.

How did you do it with getting the roles if you're studying Film Psychology rn ? I'm at the moment unsure if I should choose Acting or Museum Studies once I'm done with my History and Culture Studies studies...

@@jackie.s2569 I work as a stunt Performer and get film roles by auditioning for them on occasion otherwise I get work as part of a stunt crew. There's a lot of networking to be done to get your name out in the world, though. But if you have a skillset that's pretty unique it makes it easier to get work.

@@rajaafullo Are you using websites like "Backstage" for finding these jobs ? I'm having a natural loud voice, am a Polyglot, did figureskating for 10 years ( now assistent coach) and been told that I'm pretty good in expressing feelings in non verbal communication when acting..

i swear the most tiny decision led me here, i was watching random videos and this one came up. i really needed this, and i didnt know this’d help me solve some doubts ive had for a long time. ive been stressing trying to decide what im gonna study bc im 100% sure i want to be an actress, thats my true passion but i’d also like to make/direct movies but ive always thought it wasn’t necessary to study theatre bc that’s something that naturally comes from your soul and i cant live off my parents forever so i’ll need a job and not that acting isnt one its just that 1/10 make it on that industry and if i study cinematography that will teach me things that don’t come from my “soul” like postproduction, set construction, etc and thatd be more helpful to get a job but ive never been 100% sure bc my heart is on theatre, and this video made confirm what i think: it ISNT necessary to study theatre. and that coming from these great actors makes me feel more sure about my decision, thank you :’)

Rohjesei I watch her videos too, but what do they mean with you don’t have to study acting? Like doesn’t the talent manager say you HAVE to study it? Cause I think I am not getting the Point here

So if you don’t need to study it necessarily... how the hell do you get into it? I’ve never had an acting lesson in my life but have always been told I’m incredibly expressive and good in front of a camera. I love acting, whether it’s alone or with friends, and would love to make a career out of it. But as uplifting and inspiring as this is, it’s also left me feeling a little confused. It’s all very well asking big stars who’ve already “made it” in the industry this question but what about people who have little or no experience but still want to pursue within the industry? Where do we start? I was thinking of doing a course for beginner actors which is kinda pricey but it holds so many positives: meeting new people, learning new skills, etc. And I feel like I NEED that to genuinely build my acting experiences and abilities. But then on the other hand when Hollywood actors are saying you don’t need to... you question if you should be spending £200 on classes or not!!

I am not an expert but if you're from the UK you need to have an equity card to be able to work professionally in the industry, you can only get one by working ( yes i know It makes no sense) or by going to drama school. Look into foundation courses if you want to see If drama school Is for you. Bear in mind it's a lot of work, but I think it's one of the easiest ways to get into industry. If you have other questions please ask and I'll try my best to answer.

i think it depends on the point of view Q. Is is necessary for actors to focus on crafting their skills? YES Q. is is necessary for actors to go to school or have a degree on acting? NO what is important is the constant research on acting

Classes are a great way to meet others, network, and to show casting directors that you’re not a know-it-all.

I agree. On the flip side, acting is really just pretending to be another human, there may be a natural talent to express this but there's also technicalities to be familiar with in the industry, like terminologies and how to work with sound and light and placement, these are taught but are also readily available info online aka self study/research

Then i guess being a surgeon is as easy as cutting someone open , fix 'em and close them back up. Whoever says acting is doing nothing but explaining it shortly and ignorantly. Method, attention to minuscule details in movement, facial expression voice and so on, even pauses. There are thousands of box to tick in order for you to qualify as a good actor.

as someone studying acting (our practice is theatre rather than film, like most drama schools) i thing there are so many things to be learnt/exercised/experienced. wherever you learn. some things are more technical like voice training or warmups but there are so many things i learnt that are hard to describe, but i know i need them whenever i'm asked to act. they are more like tips and ideas to help you learn lines while avoiding repeating it always the same way, rules that you can decide to apply to yourself in your head while acting, how to find stories or words that you could tell yourself to relate to a character, ways to approach a speech when trying to 'find it'. some of these tips i've made up for myself but i think following some kind of course or training with someone asking an assignment with particular rules allowed me to find my way. And each different teacher i have had had different tips to give, most of them being things they use as actors or directors or scenographers when they don't know where to begin essentially-- it's very interesting to have teachers who use things you might think are unrelated but you can actually find a variation that applies to your practice. all i mean to say is that whenever i step into a workshop, i definitely feel the weight and importance of skills and common references and experience. whenever i might feel there are no skills to my chosen profession i think of classes/practice sharings and I am constantly reminded of all there is to master/be flexible with, all that need balancing: moving in a space and being able to hold a narrative, make choices, resisting too obvious automatic movements and thus keeping some tension alive-while staying spontaneous, making bold choices and being confident enough-but not look like you are acting, being able to change the rhythm in your speech, your walk, make yourself slightly foreign to yourself-without overacting..... and to achieve this infamous perfect balance...methods!those little tips and tricks to help you stumble in the dark!

I mean, it's easy for most of these actors to say this, because they do mostly heavily commercialised Hollywood films with pretty realistic interactions in them. Meaning that they mostly act like regular people in their films, without any heavy drama. Theater for example has many genres and a lot of them require different things. You can't audition for a standard Greek Tragedy by reciting the lines as you would in "The amazing Spiderman 2". The crowd can't squint to see your tears or micro-reactions and acting like a regular person won't work. You even have to acquire some singing or dancing skills to act in some productions. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4WFm5mzd5nNoco.html This is WAY different from acting for a Hollywood movie so you can't put them in the same box. Majority of people would need some training to do this. And research. Not all, but majority. And let's not even talk about musical theater. I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure a good drama school can do good in terms of range, experience and gaining confidence in your craft as well as connections. You don't necessarily need it though.

Thank you so much for this, I'm just about to start studying Software Engineer, I needed this. There's sth telling me to try to learn this wonderful craft and become a storyteller but it doesn't mean that I have to accept this incredible presure to get into theater school. In a society so obsessed with youth, it's awful when a voice in my head becomes this massive bully telling me that at 22 ''you're not young," "you're not right," "you're already late to start living." It's videos like this one that make you take a step back, take a deep breath and realize you're actually not late for anything.

Hey, to each his/her/their/ own. I mean if we are talking about theatre vs film, there is a lot you should know. Acting isn't just pretending to be someone, it's embodying a character and bringing them to life. I mean, that may sound all fancy but really that's what the job ask you to do. As far as having to study, well, you should study anything you work at. Some times there are people with talent to act and never go to school for acting, but what they do study, they have to learn how to be a better actor and that's done by experience. So, if you ask me, they have all studied in some way or another.

Getting into drama school is such a pain in the arse itself, that’s why i never applied to any when I was looking at university’s and decided to study animation instead as you have to pay around £40 to audition and if you don’t get in you don’t get a refund. But still want to get into acting professionally so this video has saved me stressing about having to go drama school to succeed

Experience will always trump school. Sure it can help to study the art itself in university, but you may simply end up blowing a whole bunch of money and ending up with the same result.

You shouldn't pay to audition unless you know for certain the movie should be good; research. Your talent is good enough therefore you shouldn't need to pay to audition.

AIKU series does this cover how to say get agents or what not without drama school? Cos the trouble I find is that to progress into the business you need like minimum headshots, showreels and voiceovers of which acting school seems to provide. But if I’m not going acting school how does one go about getting auditions for shows/film? Or even an agent at minimum??

I really want to get into acting. I'm willing to start small. short films, background, voice over cartoons. anything. just looking for someone willing to go out on a limb. after all, im willing to invest time and start small. But with casting agencies and the sorts, they cost money which is really a dampener when im willing to start for free to get the gist of it before attempting to move up. im willing to apply myself nonetheless.

Patrick Parmer you keep repeating that you want to start small, what else are you going to do, start big, also agents a true agent does not charge you any money when you walk in thru the door, they take ten percent of what you earn!

I like how Riz Ahmed was the only one to talk about social mobility.

That last comment is important. The barrier to entry is absolutely insane. I'd say taking a course on the basics is important to understand methods and terminology, yes. But a degree is not important for the skill if you know the basics and then apply them to auditions and small projects...however a degree might be important for casting teams, finding an agent and having connections in the industry though. Which does suck and is a little backwards with almost any other creative industry having drifted away from degrees as a requirement. A lot of this industry with or without an acting degree is about who you meet, who you know, having enough money and/or having a healthy dose of luck if you aren't from a super well connected background. Take a look at publishing, digital art or music and you see how those industry drifted very far away from the systems very rigidly in place in the acting industry.

These conversations devalue the profession. It’s soul destroying for actors who have trained hard and gone into debt hearing these comments from esteemed industry people.

It’s not necessary to take classes but (especially in the Uk) it’s very difficult to find representation from a manager/ agent if you don’t.

Another piece of advice. Topic for my own subscribers this week. Some of you out there (including this writer and vlogger) have the artist aspiration. You have been told by the very few who made it to believe in yourself and never give up. Well the simply fact is the arts are very different than any other profession. Because usually--someone else has to let you in. Now what I would tell you if you are 18 or 40 and feel that your destiny is in the arts? I would not tell you to just stay the "safe route" and give up on your dreams. I would tell you to pursue the artist aspiration smartly. Get another trade that you at least like. So the agents of industry never have you by the throat. You have to go to work anyway so you might as well have the job that pays well. I never went through the starving artist phase. I went through a starving student phase. So when I finally did pursue the artist endeavor I did it with a job I also like that contracts for 100K a year and four month vacations in Europe. That's how you go through being a starving artist. You don't starve at all. Hope this helps someone---Charles

It's very easy for UK and US actors who are already successful to say training isn't necessary when they live in countries with huge industries where opportunities are ample and they're the lucky ones that got into the club. It is true a small number of actors in these countries can stumble into a career simply by looking pretty and/or having a bit of raw talent. They have opportunities on their doorstep that help that. Even still, it's absolutely useless advice to 99% of people in these countries. "Go be an actor!" Alright, but how? Because having contacts is 95% of being of an actor. Most actors get into the industry through nepotism and wealth. Some through being child actors. Very few get in as adults with no training and no experience. That means going to drama school is the best chance most have of getting into the industry. This is even moreso in Australia where I am. Creatives here have to work a hundred times harder and be a hundred times more committed because you don't have those opportunities. And it's a necessity to have some training to be able to work overseas because we can't use our own accent. So Australian actors tend to be highly trained. And shocker... Australian actors tend to do very well overseas.

Yes, thanks, an interesting video, but I think if we look up Wikipedia of SERIOUS actors, the ones who have made a difference to the world with their Acting, we will see tat all of them went to dozens of classes, and most to a full time drama course, because they can then START their careers working every week, and learning. And not wait til they have months or years not getting any jobs, and can't afford classes any more. All I'm saying is that there is a ver very opposite view to this video.

My issue is me being scared to take the risk in doing something I’ve been doing since a child but obviously in a much larger scale.

I'm thinking about trying to start acting professionally and I heard that it's best to try to get in an agency and..The last time it checked they required an acting school...But it's super expansive and I'm struggling between two life paths ( working as a museum curator and becoming an actress) rn as my first choice isn't really fitting me ( my father made me study history)..If acting schools weren't so expensive I would just enroll in an acting school even when I worry that I might be already too old to start it ( I'm 22 and might be exmatriculated by winter next year)..I heard as well that casting directors usually always prefer actors who graduated from an acting school ..I myself had drama classes in high school for 3 years and took part in one big and several small plays during my school time...I'm scared that I might end up poor and deep in debt if I choose an acting school but in the same time I dream about starring in a movie or short film, having that audition/casting experience..I'm so much in conflict with myself..

I constantly laugh at all the actors in my community, who resist taking acting classes based on their superior confidence and life experience, and are consistently passed over for great parts in local indie films. But! They continue to be recognized as amazing background extras! Every acting coach gives you something new to use, and you take that and leave what doesn't resonate. Sometimes, you'll find a class that is a safe, supportive group of actors who experiment with everything they've learned. Those are gold. I'm now a filmmaker. The reason I only use trained actors for main roles is because time on set is precious, and I need consistent results for all takes, so the best options can be captured. Giving a lead or supporting role to one with no training is a liability to the production.

My problem is that I really want to be an actress but I’m really shy at school I wouldn’t be able to take GCSEs in drama but once in collage or onset I’d be fine I don’t know what to do. Any advice😔

Em_Dolan_ Bromieomie I was the same as you and I never got the chance to do GCSE drama, I was active in clubs for a long time and it helped me become more confident and gain experience. I’m going to do drama for A level, I don’t think it’s a necessity but I would recommend it.

hi, just to let you all know, drama gcse nor a level are required to be accepted into studying acting. If this is really what you want to be, look into auditioning for drama schools at college or university level where you’ll be asked to audition and they are very competitive but there are minimal subject requirements - normally just 5 GCSEs or 2 alevels in any subject. But in all honesty drama at a standard uni instead of drama school is not always the best, the opportunities are minimal and don’t have as intense or as skilled practical training, whilst some actors will have succeed doing this it is not an easy way to do so. Whilst I can’t speak for all schools if you want to train as actors that’s where I would start to look x luckily the UK have some of the most amazing places to train :)

The best actors are the actors who study acting. That’s why the UK actors are sweeping the media. Also people who don’t study acting usually play the same character in every role. As an actor in college, there’s so much you can learn. You will only get so far with talent, the rest is skill and devotion to the craft.

Soviet Ninja Sorry, I know this comment is old but I’ve only just stumbled across this video and your comment really helped me. This video is a nice idea but to someone who is a “beginner actor” like me, who has little previous acting experience, has never had a lesson but has always been told they’re great in front of a camera and very expressive, it sends out mixed messages. It’s essentially saying, don’t bother studying acting, it will just be handed to you on a plate - which we know full well it won’t be. I’ve been thinking about starting a drama course and it’s quite a pricey one but I’m willing to pay whatever amount of money purely because it’s an industry I really want to pursue a career in. I think in terms of the performing arts industry you have to put yourself out there to a degree. But I’d like to know what these huge Hollywood actors suggest beginner actors do next if they don’t need to study the craft? Where do we start? We just wait? Lol.

Paigey Daisy , Awesome!! I would highly recommend looking for either BFA programs or conservatory’s. Having training , HELPS A LOT. The schools will provide you the tools you need for on the stage and on camera. It will make your career a lot easier. Especially if you get into reputable schools like Yale, Juilliard , Pace , etc. it will also open your eyes up to on stage acting. The thing that a lot of actors miss now a days, is that they get too focused on . “ I HAVE TO MAKE IT”. It’s not about the fame and the fortune. It’s about doing what you love doing and sharing it. Also, people tend to only go for broadway auditions or Hollywood movies and television. When they forget there are so many professional theatre’s you can perform at that, people will notice you. An example can be someone saying no to other acting opportunities because they are waiting for the “right job”. They missed out on a whole bunch of opportunities to show their craft. Since they are laying around waiting for a job to fall in their laps. At the end I would recommend you to find an institution and get training. A lot of the people with training tend to do better in the field.

I believe if you can be yourself in acting situations then your fine but if you can’t you are not going to learn that in school. You will have to work at home in private so that you can practice for two hours straight for free instead of paying large sums to sit in class for two hours and 25 minutes and then get on stage for 5 minutes with nervous energy and bottled up hope. And if anybody is good in class it’s because they were good to begin with. There all rip offs. All the actors that are working in the industry are not there because of the great help they got from classes but many will say that to promote the schools or they really don’t know themselves well enough. If you already a good actor then school would be good to take it to the next level but you see they wouldn’t make much money if everyone had to be good to join. But that’s what the old school of method acting was about. Lee didn’t charge a fee but you had to audition because he wasn’t going to waste his time teaching a novice how to act but to teach a good actor to be better.

Voice acting and body movements come very naturally to me, so I feel like I don't need to take classes. I just want to practice a part, memorize it, then get up on the stage or get on the set and portray the character I've practiced being for so long. My mom's trying to get me into an acting program for High School, but it seems like she's signing me up for an acting class where they'll teach me how to act. Acting is different for everyone, which is why I feel its difficult to teach acting because everyone's different in the way they portray a character. If it turns out what my mom is signing me up for is a acting class where they'll teach me what to do and how to do it, I wouldn't want to go, but if it's an acting program where theres just warm ups as a pose to teaching, then I'll want to go. And why do good grades matter to do something that isn't required to know anything other than the character your acting as?

Same. I go through depression sometimes that sit me down and I'll just be watching movies and imaging myself as those ppl. Been doing it since I was six. So just like you dramatics and movements come so natural to me. I would fantasize and act out what personality or character I would have once I beat my depression.This I'd for us we gotta do this.

I have a nice face in my opinion, and im a great actor, im still a teenager but live in a country where acting isnt much popular or will get me far, what should i do?

This is actually super helpful, but the only reason I was going to do this is to finally figure out if it is my true passion, cause making decisions is the hardest thing for me... so I have a couple of questions: How or where can I expose myself to this environment if I don't go to acting or drama school? And similar to that question, where does one find and agent to help with auditions and all of that, if I have no contact whatsoever to this industry?

You can take lots of acting classes without enrolling in an actual school. Improv classes, on camera classes, and also community theater which is free! And like actors in the video said, just be observant. Read books on body language. Watch how people react to their environment, learn about human instinct. Because acting is pretending to be another person!

I’m born to be an actor but I still wanna study it I’m Uni because there’s nothing else I actually wanna study so I feel like I can just learn more and become better even though it’s something I’m already good at it

First and foremost, you need to recognize if you're somehow in your own way. Is there a mental block holding you back from greatness? Do you lack the tools necessary to create a character with a believable history? Do you have personal tics/habits that seep into your work? If so, a coach or a teacher can help with that, if you are open to learning. But ultimately, you need imagination, curiosity, bravery, and passion to be an actor, not necessarily a BFA.

Yea this is a very narrow perspective. Yes it depends on the person, but you should always study your craft. You honor it in that way. Maybe formal training isn’t an option, but you should still study in what ever way that is for you. Being a “natural” is just half the battle. It’s a business, and it’s more then just “acting”. Some of these people probably just had their careers handed to them. Acting is being, but when you are talking about Theatre there are multiple techniques and styles that are important to understand, which comes through schooling/training. I think it’s completely necessary to study acting, because it’s a disservice to the craft if you don’t. It’s about the work and bring value to it.

Ok so I really want to be an actor it’s a true passion of mine and it’s always been a hobby of mine to watch movies/tv shows but I have zero experience and I can’t just not go to an acting school. Any tips on what to do? I’m 18 years old I just graduated high school and I’m about to go to college to study petroleum engineering cuz that’s the safest option to go to but for me I really want to be an actor and no matter how long it takes me to make it I don’t mind and sorry for this long paragraph🙏🏻

sorry if this is a stupid question, but what's the difference between Acting School and an Acting Class.? like if i take a private acting class does that count as much as acting school if i want to audition for a film ? i'm very new to acting and don't have much experience

With acting school you're devoting yourself to something for 3-4-5 years, university/college acting major basically, while in Acting class, you can go anytime, at any age and find acting groups/classes and join for a while only. If you want to go for acting proffessionally, I believe acting school will be much more interesting, more proffessional, more inspiring and better for the long run, you will also meet many people there, with whom you will probably work in the future. The atmosphere would be different than in Acting Classes. For acting classes, you can take that before going to acting school, so that you get prepared for the auditions before entering, preparing your monologues and other materials that may be needed. It's something you can go in for 1 year and really expand your skills. It's usually a small group of people that learn acting. An acting coach is the third kind that you go 1 on 1 sessions, and one interesting acting coach imo is John Windsor-Cunningham, who has many videos in youtube. Just note that I've no acting experience, but interest in this area and am speaking from my own perception.

And just want to say, Caroline, that you can go audition even NOW for anything, but the fact is that the auditioners will have only limited time, will need to stay a whole day for several days or weeks and pass hundreds of people for a single role. Would you think that they would take every single person that wants to audition or they will have entry requirements or proof of experience? Latter more likely. This shouldn't discourage you, I can tell you some of the actors you see on TV have been spotted on the street and been asked if they want to play a role in a movie because they thought they are a good fit. Just believe in yourself and do not be afraid to put the hard work in, nor remove luck from the whole equation. The actors I've mentioned, however, are an exception and as you probably already know, the chances of this happening are very slim. Yet if you can find any way to stand out more, these chances go up.

Good luck, ok their are a few actors up here who have made it and some of them are pretty good, but on the other hand they seem to be disrespectful to the craft, now maybe that is not the right word to use but this is a craft it’s a art and their is much to learn , Robert DeNeriio , Dustin Hoffman, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Al Pachino, I can go on and on all went to acting schools!

Define ‘study acting’. Do you need to go to drama school and acting classes to land a role? No, its not essential. But even working on the job with no school based study is a form of study in itself. An actor should be constantly revising and refining their craft which is a form of study. Acting is a craft, a discipline and a academic subject. It should be respected as such.

Is that mean Study Acting is not ok , or necessary?? No I don’t think so , let me write why ? The understanding of this that Study Acting is not necessary only comes an Actor’s life when they go through this , remember Study Acting will only be worthless when you embarrassed it , This to me is real key.

When i read scripts i kinda use some of my own Words to feel more comfortable, and just be myself it's kinda easy, if you've ever told a convincing story then you become an actor

Acting is like any other career that need to be studied ,the fact that someone has talent does not mean you can do it easily and quickly ,there are a lot of terminology,history of acting ,authors, techniques,methods,knowledge..and you say NO really ? Then why do people need to study music ,cinema ,marketing IDK.. it’s the same acting deserve the same respect !! I am student of acting BTW :)

How the hell can you study acting?? If you have to study acting, it isn't for you. What? You need to study on how to breathe? I looked this up because I just got an ad about some female going to school for acting.

If you have raw talent and that natural instinct and you feel like you really don’t need the formal education then don’t do it. If you need a little work on your craft take some classes. If you really need help enroll in college, although if you really need that help you probably won’t make it so I wouldn’t bother

I don’t agree. Classes , as long as you find the right teacher are good.. Each medium has a different approach. Unless you are extremely naturally gifted, you would waist a lot of time trying to figure that out. Also going through a good training program could open yourself up to connections in the industry. Working in this business either on stage, tv, or film… connections help!

You got where you are through nepotism for the most part. Notice how none of them can actually tell you a different way to get into acting. They mention drama school, but as a non-exclusive way to become an actor, they don’t mention anything else.

I don't think the actors need to study acting. Besides the person who wants to be actor isn't born, it is made, for example Burt Lancaster necessary didn't study to become an actor, he was discovered and chosen to be a star, he's not the only one, in addition anybody can be a good actor

like to sign up right time, need a better doctor e. w. actress desperate been p. d. ulster pray forever which one ulster n. n. pray forever always.

In other words: it depends on luck (to make a quick buck, giving the right producers a hug, landing the next role as Donald Duck).

well what type of audition's are you wanting to do film tv commercial theater because it all depends on where you live also is it for physical acting or vocal acting let's say it's for vocal then there are student projects and amature projects that you can do online but for physical acting there might be some student films and sometimes you can self tape which is when you record you're self for a audition and they will at time's put audition's in paper's like news paper's and such you can also see if you have a local theater that could help you although it may cost money but doesn't hurt to ask so yeah it all depends on a few thing's i probably left a thing or two out just ask and maybe i have some more info that can be of help but hopefully it gave ya good idea

Some actors are so charismatic and quirky in real life, they can just play themselves in every role. Lucky buggers. 🤣

I think if you don't study, you are a one trick pony. Or an artist who lives in a dark and has no idea what they are doing. Choose what kind of actor you want to be. This video can painfully mislead. That's why there is no respect for actors because people say "you don't have to study, you can just come and be an actor", I'm sorry but even a parrot can learn lines or be "interesting", it takes more than that to have an acting career. With that said, yes, you can still suck as an artist and get an Oscar. Again, that's why there's no respect for actors. Until one works with a truly great one.

I find it sounds weird and irritating when women use the word actor rather than actress. P.C newspeak here we come.

@@anunexpectedfriend But how do you get to start "doing" ? It's not like you walk into a casting office and say" hey I would like to be in this movie" , and your hired. You have to audition and to be good at auditioning you have to be taught. You just graduated right? You're going to learn very quickly that you have to be GOOD to get any kind of work. Also I think it's very contradictory to have gone to college and got a degree, and then tell someone else they don't need one. It's like a Lawyer saying: "I went to law school, every successful lawyer I know went to law school, but no you don't need to go to law school."

Nathan Francis I’m saying that if you think there is only one way to do something in life, or if someone tells you that there is only one way, stop listening to that advice and run for the hills. Those are mental blocks that stop you. You learn to be good at anything by doing it, that means auditioning regularly. Try going off the beaten path and believe in yourself. Everyone is going to tell you to do this that, take acting/commercial/auditioning class and the other so that you have to wait several years until you actually get out there and acting (I’m not saying you shouldn’t but it’s not an actual requirement to be good). Just do it. Stop thinking it’s hard to get into acting or movies, because it’s not, everyone just wants you to believe that and then everyone begins circulating that information like the know what they’re taking about and they think there’s some formula. No, just go out there an audition, it’s impossible not to improve and succeed.

Whether it be private coaching, college, acting classes, or even on set director coaching. EVERYONE needs training in some form. To say that they don't is ridiculous band disrespectful to the craft.
