The Verge For me a perfect instagram would be, strip out all the Facebook-based algorithms, make stories optional, and give us choice over what new features we want to use. Also chronological feed. Never going to happen though.

This isn't true, some people keep coming up at the top of mine I've barely interacted with or even looked on their profile over people I've interacted with and looked on their profile regularly, so this isn't true.

He's lying. There are people I never look at that rank higher at my stories. And it turns out it is people that look at my stuff.

Watch the video before leaving a comment like this. It’s not about avoiding stalkers but about whether or not Instagram reveals whose activity you look at most closely, or “stalk.”

Some people on the top of my views are ppl I never stalk or interact with though...

I always thought the people who looked at my story more recently were at the top, and the first viewers were at the bottom. Simple & chronological order.

How does one stalk you by visiting your public profile? No one wants to be followed in the street, if someone just follows you around that's stalking. But a public profile is something you create with the purpose of showing selected pictures to other people. That's the whole purpose of a public profile. If that creeps you out, just make the profile private or shut the whole thing down. This whole idea of instagram stalking without any interaction at all is just so stupid and immature.

I agreed but if you start narrowing down the things you really want to see and the people you care about, let's say less than 500 following, it's actually great. Now I follow around 200 people and I always see the content that I want without spending hours on it.

but still means you're not gonna see everyone's content, they want you to see more, but if you only see what you want to see that gonna make sure you're not going to see everyone's content, you will always miss something

We as users, should be able to setup our feed as we want.

It shows who watches your stories and from there you can see you who purposely isn’t liking your IG pics but watching your stories to be nosey

I want the chronological feed back, I miss most of the posts because of the algorithm and it usually shows content what I’m not interested.

I’m a little surprised you didn’t create a small number of IG accounts and test this. It seems like I’d be a relatively easy thing to do.

I swear the Instagram algorithm is too sensitive. I click on one random post about, say, boxing and suddenly my explore page is full of people punching things.

Cool video. I really liked the stabilized tracking in the beginning. For the wide interview shots that show the soft boxes, is that some overcaptured 360 footage or just an ultra wide?

I don’t really want many changes. Lately Instagram is walking on the same path as Facebook did few years ago. Adding way too many features that just populated everything and driving people crazy. I don’t want Instagram to do that. I love this app but lately it’s really adding features like a storm. What comes out of it time will only tell.

I was talking to my friend that I haven’t talked to in awhile and haven’t been on her profile too and after we were done talking I made a story and guess who was on the top of my viewer list :|

I think some people (not all) care a little too much about who sees what they post. Social media/networking is cool...just don't obsess over it (unless it's part of your job ...something like branding or advertisement)

Instagram won't tell you their algorithm because they don't know their algorithm. It's constantly evolving by itself via machine learning. They set parameters to focus on to adjust it, but they don't know the actual algorithm and they can't directly influence it.

This might have changed as a lot of people i talk to on a daily basis on ig are scattered all over the list, not always at the top

I've been wondering this too cause I keep seeing my ex as a friend suggestion even though I click the tiny "x" to remove them but they show right back up again lol

Please dig into this. My friend is going to Jamaica and we talked about it while my phone was on the table between us. I never travel outside of Europe and I never even googled Jamaica or anything that has to do with it. But only about 2 days later, I got an email from a travel agency I booked a holiday with only once before and it showed we hotels from Jamaica only. Please find out if our phones are listining to us, it would be a interesting video

Instagram, I don't care about my best friends appearing at the top. I want recency to be the deciding factor. As for the share menu, if the app is supposed to be so good at knowing who my best friends are, why does it not show my best friends at the top of that list?

I know he's lying. For a FACT. I NEVER interact with my ex. In fact, I set my settings where I don't have to see his stories and posts. I never get on his profile. Don't even visit his Facebook, and I set my settings the same for FB as well. I don't DM him at all. Every single story I have posted for the last year, he's been number ONE.

I wrote this on my own comment but I highly doubt this man is telling the truth. The fact is Facebook/Instagram will collapse if it was confirmed that it publishes or even uses stalker info to other people. Privacy is the bedrock upon their whole business. They would never admit it if it was true. And the excuses this man gives are easily disprovable. First off, it's not about who you interact with cause the people I interact with most never show up in the top of my list, a lot of them appear towards the bottom. A few always appearing at the top of my list I never interact with. Also, the list isnt random or chronological. My list is fairly predictable, the same usual suspects keep floating around the top. It's not random and it's not who I interact with. And Instagram has every incentive to deny it, in fact the entire platform would tank if it came out that they, in some way, disclose private info to other users.

@@MrAhuraMazda This is exactly the same for me, I just wrote the exact same thing before reading yours. There's some people I interact with a lot, view their profile regularly yet there's some people who I never do (or barely do) who always come up over the top of those I interact with. I know which profiles I visit, posts I like etc.. and some people are coming up at the top every time over all this.

The people you know probably follow each other or interact with each other. I think it’s a smart way to get small accounts started up

tldr; no, the users YOU stalk are more likely to be at the top of the list

Luckily, I never use the Stories feature so I'm good

my story views were increase from 80 - 216 in just 1 minute i don't know why but it's 1 year ago but the viewers is not my followers even my audience is really poor and it seems the viewers don't stalk my IG it's very weird can anyone tell the truth why is this happening ?

Why is a viewer's name greyed out in my Instagram story viewers list?

I miss more posts this way because if I just open Instagram to send a message without looking at my feed and then close the app and go back in later it thinks I’ve seen all the previous stuff from when I last opened the app, so now I have to find were i last left off on the feed, very annoying, why not just keep it simple? Just show posts as they come out!

I hate the algorithm because they don't show me the best content just the content of whoever has the most friends that clicked like solely because they are their friend NOT because it was a creative, cool, beautiful or useful post.

In late 2019/early 2020, I've got the idea that the viewer on the bottom is the first to have seen your story. So isn't it just based on the time people watch it instead of interests in your or their page?

Bingo! usually the ones on the bottom are the ones who first saw your story or they visit your page the most last few days. Below them are new visitors that you dont interact with that are randomly clicking on your story

but if someone sees your story fast it means that you show up first for them so THEY ARE STALKING YOU
