Both: I prefer the quads retro-aesthetic and how they feel when pumping on transition but prefer the inline feel when it's about being out and about. Also tore my inner knee ligaments in a quad-specific way: you can catch WAY more nasty pebbles with what is basically two little skateboards attached to your feet, than with the wheels in one line.

I prefer both besides each skate has it's strength and weaknesses so besides the wheels I would go with roller skates but lines are much faster in speed so yeah but if I don't have the option to choose both I would pick roller skates

Trying to get into quad skating but I definitely feel what she said about inline skaters feeling like quad skating is dangerous because the wheels don't extend past the boot. Even though it hasn't happen, I feel like I'm going to fall backwards whenever I'm quad skating, so I always take it a lot slower than I would inline skating. Would love to see Moxi come out with inline skates someday!

I started skating in the mid 1960s (quads, obviously) and that’s all I knew until 1998 when I got a pair of Rollerblade in-line skates. I was 37 at that time. I stuck with that for years then when I turned 50 quads were making a comeback so I bought myself a good pair. As soon as I stood up on them I came down hard and almost broke my upper arm. I was so shocked because in my youth I’d never had any accidents or problems with quad skating. Anyway, that fall scared me so bad I gave away my new skates and stuck with my Rollerblades. I’m 62 now. For me, as an older person, I just feel like I have more control and balance on the inline skates. I don’t attempt dancing or tricks, I just skate to feel the joy of the wind on my face and I listen to good music. Skating is the only aerobic exercise I enjoy and will actually do.

@@NoflikOfficial depends on your preference and what you want to do with them. Dancing? quads are better Speed? Inlines are better Street skating or tricks? Either are good Derby? quads Looking super cute? quads again lol Rollerskates are easier to fall forward or backward in, inlines sideways. I do find inline slightly easier because of the falling issue, the inline wheels extend past your toes and heels so falling forward or backward isn't as much of an issue for me. But I do need better core strength

I would say the biggest difference is that quads feel more stable side to side, but inline feels more stable front to back. I always fall forward on quads cause I’m used to leaning forward on the long wheel base of inlines. I have some really short 240mm length inline frames, and that’s still really long compared by roller skate standards.

I used to inline skate as a child, when I couldn't ice skate in the summer. But it was the early 2000's and inline skates where the only thing that was available back then, it was not a conscious decision of inline over quad skates or anything. And as an adult have now gotten into quad skates instead. I do find them harder to learn, but I feel like it's just an age thing, not the skate itself. As a child I just fully went for it, with no fear of falling, but that's just not feasible for me as an adult now. I'm much more careful, which is important to keep myself from getting serious injury if course, but it will make progress slower. But I do prefer quad skates. There is just something to the vibe of quad skates that I like much more.

Omfg was finding quads in the early 2000s IMPOSSIBLE! I honestly don’t even know how I happened upon my first pair. But I LOVED them so much! I HATED inlines. Only recently as an adult did I start to like them. I think I just resented the fact they overtook quad skates. When my first pair of quads broke I could never find a pair in any store to replace them. So I ended up giving up my favorite hobby which to this day I get upset over. My parents truly did try their hardest to find me a pair of skates but they never could so they ended up getting me a pair of inlines which obviously didn’t feel like quads and I had JUST figured out how to use quads. I didn’t want to have to relearn how to skate. I ended up selling those skates at a garage sale which I now regret. As I do enjoy rollerblading as much as quad skating now. But quads will always hold a special place in my heart. I have been inline skating for the past year or so on a old pair of my cousins Variflex inlines from the 90s. They’re fun but just not the same as roller skating. They’re obviously old so instead of updating to a pair of new inlines I just got some moxi panthers. It’ll be the first time since I was 11 I roller skated. I also found it easier to skate as an adult ironically enough! As a kid I was scared of falling and getting hurt but I’ve been through enough serious illnesses as an adult I am not afraid of pain anymore so I’m actually kinda careless. I also find inline skating much harder but it was still easier doing it as an adult then it was as a kid. When I was a kid I couldn’t inline skate well at all.(tbf I was kinda well not kinda I was TOTALLY a fat kid and I’m in shape now so that’s also probably why I can skate better now 😂)

I remember that the first time I tried inlines just over two years ago, I wasn't sure why I felt off balance, until I was told by an unspecified bystander to "wear a size down" as it were from my normal shoe size. I'm still not entirely sure why that is.

It's because your feet do different things, so you need a snugger fit! When you walk around you actually want a little space in your shoes so your feet can slide a bit, breathe, etc. When you are on inline skates, you definitely don't want that! Your foot will be rattling around inside the skate, making it difficult to control. When the boots are snug they kind of become an extension of your foot, giving you better control.

Not long ago I started to learn quad skates because I love those dace moves with quad skates. Unfortunately I fell hard on my butt twice all because backward skating on quad skates. I guess that's because I am so used to long base of inline and get used to leaning back too much.

This has been a very nice summary! As an inline skater, I may however correct you on one detail (you know that this was coming 😉): inline figure skates have a toe stop or some other kind of stopper in front. It's meant as a replacement for the toe pick in ice figure skates. The boots look similar compared with roller skates, but they are generally more stiff too (because they are ice skating boots). BTW I totally agree with your inline friends ... I feel totally insecure in quad skates 😅 I've not yet figured out how to get onto the edge ... I'm not even sure if it exists 🤣

  • @pepperspikes1849

    @pepperspikes1849

you do have edges on quads! it feels quite a bit different though. roller goolie kinda mentions this in the video; you have to lean and really shift your weight to one side or the other to get a good edge, especially if your trucks aren’t very loose, because the edges come from the movement of your trucks. your wheels themselves are always basically at the same angle to the ground (unless you have very tight trucks or you purposely lift up the two wheels on one side of your skate). the truck action allows the angle of the boot to the ground to change without the (vertical) angle of the wheels changing (the lines of the two front wheels vs the two back wheels do change when accessing edges though). that’s very different from inline edges, since as you probably know, the edges come from changing the angle of your skate, including the wheels themselves, to the ground. there’s no distinctly separate movement between the boot and the frame and the wheels; they all move together.

Inlines are fun but quads are easier and better for beginners. I was trying to explain that to an inline supremacist the other day but they got super triggered and went on a rant about the history of ice skating 😂 Edit: 12:07 see I actually DONT think it’s personal preference! And I ALWAYS am shocked when I hear inliners say quads feel “dangerous” like wtf it’s inlines that feel dangerous! They’re MUCH harder for a beginner and I learned to skate on quads and inlines AT THE SAME TIME! And quads were far easier to balance on and pretty much do everything on! Inlines are fun for speed skating tho! Cant beat the speed inlines will give you! However, no matter what anyone says your center of balance is objectively more balanced on quads so I do believe if it’s harder for some people it’s just because they’ve gotten used to inlines. But to a rookie who’s never skated quads will be easier.

hey, i’m not affiliated with moxi, but yeah the moxi gummy wheels are soft and meant for outdoors, so you’d have an easier time with harder wheels (durometer between 80a to 90a, so maybe around 82a or 85a, if you’re new to skating indoors). you can technically use the gummies on rinks, but they will likely feel “sticky” and slower. edit: you can go with wheels even harder than 90a, but i figured that as a beginner you wouldn’t be looking to do slides and such in the rinks, and if you go with wheels that are too hard you might have a hard time at first.

  • @ingrid7843

I have lollies and used the gummy wheels on the rink. I don’t even know how does it feel to have less soft/ grippy wheels, so I think you’ll be fine. It slows you down and, as mentioned, it sticks a bit, but nothing too serious. In terms of hardness if you wanna buy indoor wheels/ hybrid, I would recommend going up to a 103a. I had my eye on the luminous indoor wheels (they not only have the 85a - that is more like a hybrid/ outdoor but also two other harder wheels (I think 93 and 103?? Not sure). Again never tried anything harder, so it might be a good option to get a 93 first, but if you’re into rinks and want to go all the way, 100+ would do.

The quality, style, and sizing of your first skates can impact how enjoyable your learning experience is just as much as choosing inline v quads. The same is probably true for the surface/terrain you learn on as well. Learning never stops though. Inlines are easier for me. As a beginner to inlines and quads, I prefer rollerblades. Easier to turn and I like the heel brake than toe stops

I realize the title is probably more for click bait, but wouldn't it make more sense to call this something like "The differences between rollerskates and inline skates"? After all, she says several times, that one is not better than the other, rather there are differences that might make one preferable to the other depending on individual preference.

Im sure she modelled it that way because people typically ask "whats better?" She has an answer to that- neither. The title is fine and allows a point to be made.

The trailer is awesome. Inliner….. nope. Never ever. I have been skating on quads for so such a long time when inliners did‘nt have been invented yet.
