Is Humichar the Best Biochar?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Is Humichar the Best Biochar? Great question and a topic discussed in this video. Lets look at Andersons Humichar in detail. We'll discuss the origin of biochar and what sets Andersons Humichar apart with it DG particle engineering. The secret to a great lawn is not just the fertilizer but the soil and its ability to support micro-organisms. One way to improve your soil is by adding amendments of biochar, which improves water retention, soil composition, micro-organism habitat, among other things, resulting in improved plant nutrient uptake. Biochar (Humichar), its what's for dinner!

Another great video Russ. I used the Andersons Humic DG last season and end up using the whole 40lb bag on my lawn. Figured it couldn't hurt :)

Humic is also an important part of my program, I'm running NEXT Humic-12 but have also dropped the Andersons Humic DG. I think use of Humic has transformed by lawn.

Yeah man, I’m about to throw down the whole bag. From what I understand, Biochar lasts like 10 years or something. Long time. Not sure spacing out applications over a month has an impact.

Andersons’ BioChar DG is a better bargain, as it contains more than double the essential carbon-rich biochar ingredient. HumiChar is significantly cut with humic acid, which is a markedly cheaper ingredient that is more cost-effective to purchase elsewhere. What we really want in our soil is more carbon, and HumiChar merely comprises just over 30% of it.

Good point! I read the specs and definitely something to take note of for a future mention. I may drop a round of straight BioChar DG soon. Great comment, thanks for sharing.

Find a lot of documentation that its a good soil amending app. Wish it was a little cheaper but one bag can do multiple apps or you can throw it all down at once.

Nice video. Thisbis my 2nd year using it. I trust that it's doing what it supposed to do. It is expensive so I plan on using for 3 years and then switch back to Humic DG.

Agree it is pricey. Same approach here, I'm adding to my program to see how it changes my soil composition. I still have areas that are sticky clay and low pH. Want to see if this possibly changes the composition.

I've used it last summer. I had put that and the chicken feed that Doc recommended in the middle of the summer when the lawn was looking pretty stressed and it recovered really well. This year I plan to use the Soil Mastery from Yard Mastery that is basically the humichar but has other bio stimulants in it

Like your video, good luck launching the Channel. I’ve been using humichar/biochar, sourcing through Amazon. Ordered Allyn’s “Kitchen sink” version recently, Im curious if you were able to apply it. Let me know your thoughts on both of these products. Big fan of biochar, for sure.

Appreciate you taking the time to drop a comment. I'm new to biochar this season. YM Soil Mastery is another alternative plus it has the bio-stims. I haven't tried Soil Mastery yet since I'm still running the NEXT bio-stims but will probably give it a go at some point. Let me know what you think of it after you throw it down.

Its expensive but I believe that soil is very important. I've been doing one app per year, mostly due to cost. Now I want to order some!

Do you need to continually add biochar each season to keep all the benefits? Or can you just stop after adding a certain amount and continue reaping the benefits of the humichar indefinitely? I think Doc mentioned the carbon from biochar stays in the soil for more than a hundred years. I would think you can stop adding biochar to the lawn after a certain amount has been added over several seasons, but not totally sure. I just added Lesco's Carbonpro X, which is a biochar competitor product to Humichar, to my lawn last weekend. Will watch to see how the lawn responds.

  • @LawnJourneys

I'm not a biochar expert by any means. Yes, I've learned the same in that it stays in the soil. I think the bigger question is more so how much total quantity do you need to lay out to get a measurable benefit. I'm about to do my second app ever so not expecting to see any visual response. My focus has been on the soil so I'm willing to stay at it. I also want to try Carbonpro x or g, I think its better priced. Where did you purchase it at? Thanks for the comment too 🙂

  • @CR-ow2wp

@@LawnJourneys It is Carbonpro G, g for granular. Bought it for $31.99 per bag at Site One. Used to be $25 a bag just last month but they raised the price recently. Lesco also makes a Carbonpro L for liquid, but apparently that is over $100 for a jug. Cost per app is likely lower for the liquid, but the initial cost of the jug was more than I was willing to shell out.

I would apply only in warm season when turf biota is more active. Like anything you’ll find positive and negatives on the internet. I tend to value university studies, here’s one that I recently bookmarked: uafs.edu/academics/academic-resources/symposium/_documents/elam-gambill-perez.pdf
