Regarding the Marvel Handbook implying Oblivion is just like the other abstracts is outright inconsistent, because Oblivion has never been subject to the Living Tribunal's judgment. He exists on a level beyond the Living Tribunal and it contradicts over a dozen statements that say EVERYTHING, including the abstracts, come from and will go to Oblivion. So in essence everything that has existed, exists, will exist and never exist is a part of him. As in the term oblivion is just a way we explain it but for him even if the term were to not exist he would still exist.

The One Above All = The Writers (most imply Stan Lee or Jack Kirby but I will just say the writers) Oblivion = The Paper (since he is implied to have existed before the Marvel mulitverse) It is sort of comparable to when you are drawing a picture and you are thinking of an Idea on what to draw and you are looking at the paper and you see absolutely nothing, but then there is a bulb above your head, you have your idea and then you begin to draw and make your idea "come to life" (figuratively speaking). So what I am saying is that nothing will be there before something enormous happen, it does not mean that nothingness has all the power or that it created everything because in reality, all that nothingness did was witness birth. Overall, I still believe The One Above All is the God of all Marvel creations.

I love the concept of things existing in nothingness. What was before creation, nothing. What dwelled in the vast empty

I put Oblivion over TOAA, for one simple fact. Oblivion represents the blank pages of Marvel comics and TOAA represents Jack Kirby and the other writers. A Blank page (Oblivion) doesn’t need writers to exist. It’ll (he’’ll) always be there. Whereas the comic book writers needs a blank page tell their stories. So, without the blank pages (Oblivion) there would be no TOAA to be written/drawn

I would say there is strong evidence Oblivion is superior to multi-eternity, and by feats even LT, but I would consider TOAA still Omnipotent since the contradiction was only minor, and he is the author avatar, which I would consider Omnipotent as the author can do literally anything in the story. Author avatar rules are touchy but most people would agree author is omnipotent for having complete control of everything in the story (ie could write any power for them self, choose any outcome, know everything about the story etc) Mind you one important rule to remember is that you can never scale off author avatars, if for example they get in a confrontation for a gag, or something like that, since the author avatars chose to write the outcome that way, and could just as easily make the outcome anything else they chose, it does not scale. So no trying to say Lord of nightmares is omnipotent for beating on the author avatar in a gag for example.

Why are so many people saying this? That's DC's hierarchy not Marvel's. The relationship you are describing is barely connected to what Oblivion has been established as. He is not the paper. He is the anthropomorogic manifestation of the state all living and non living things things are in before being put on the paper. The actual "paper" is completely separate from Oblivion because all of existence started by not existing in him and were transferred to existence once they were created (by TOAA I assume). This is further clarified when he explains that all things will "return" to him, meaning that the existence we see is not part of Oblivion...yet. Marvel has already explained this. Why is everyone in this comment section using DC cosmology when those are completely different things?

Where the hell did Oblivion stated that he's the one who created everything? That panel of him saying everything and everyone in it are his creation, do you know what "IT" refer to? it refer to oblivion's realm, not marvel multiverse, just read the sentence from the start, it starts with "This realm....". The very comics that you showed in your video states that Oblivion is limited he can't enter the marvel multiverse that's why he used Amatsu Mikaboshi the chaos king and failed. And existing before existence itself doesn't make him the creator of existence unless stated which is not, and definitely doesn't make him more powerful than TOAA, Infinity Being (aka Nemesis) existed before existence, yet it's not more powerful than TOAA. And breaking the forth wall doesn't mean shit, Deadpool did it, She-Hulk did it, Gwen did it, it doesn't make them trans-dimensional infinite beings TOAA is the most powerful being in Marvel because he represent the writers, embodiment of real beings from our world who create the comics, Oblivion is a mere character inside the comics representing the one side of the duality of existence/non-existence that TOAA created.

Nice info, but and I mean BUT Oblivion is still susceptible to the all mighty Retcon. Any ability Oblivion is, was or could be is all decided by the current writer, regardless of what higher dimensional power he claims to have. Jack Kirby though, you can't retcon. Jack Kirby is and will always be the father/creator of many Marvel heroes. If Jack Kirby himself demanded it, Oblivion would be well oblivion. Wholeheartedly agree, he's only as powerful as any given writer wants him to be, they could make wolverine a celestial and beat up galactus if they wanted, perfect example of over powered for no reason aside from plot armour is marquis of death, there's a fine line between fantasy and sci fi.

I totally agree with manta. Oblivion is not a character or even a component of our reality. Oblivion is an abstract idea representing the absence of everything. We cannot comprehend the absence of everything, so Oblivion is beyond our reality. The writers (TOAA) can delete the character Oblivion, but not the idea that it embodies. Oblivion may not be the most powerful character in the Marvel universe, but it is eternal since it represents something outside of the Marvel universe.

Animdude is a representation of stan lee and he is not omnipotent. Annoying dog from undertale is an author avatar and not omnipotent. and the one above all is not omnipotent just because he is was shown as an author one time. saying that they are omnipotent because they are the author is a fallacy of appealing real life to fiction. There are characters who canonically exist beyond the real world. In fictional debates you have to go by what is cannon, not a real life perspective. Otherwise by your logic every single fictional character would be cannonically two dimensional since that is what we see them as. and the one above all as a result would only be average human level. Also mcu characters would solo dragon ball since dbz characters are only two dimensional whilst mcu characters are 3D since they are performed by actors. Real people > fiction. And by your logic nobody in fiction would be omnipotent since people in the real world can kill them An author views their verse as a plain. Meaning they are a higher dimension. If the author of naruto for example made an author avatar of themselves and that avatar viewed naruto as fiction, it would only be a 4D feat as a 4D being views 3D as fiction. "One Above All" represents the existence of each and every writer that has ever been in marvel, that is, or that ever will be. He represents their existence and all the power that they wield over the marvel multiverse. He represents the creative power that went into each and every ability, entity, and thing that has or ever will exist in any of the marvel multiverses. Without the existence of writers there could be no creation there could be no concept. One Above All IS the writers existence and anything and everything they do. So that means he represents the existence and creative power of John Marc DeMatteis and Alan Kupperburg who created the character "Oblivion". Since they existed before marvel and they created oblivion that also means by direct effect "One Above All" who represents every writer came before oblivion and created oblivion and can destroy oblivion. "One Above All" is the embodiment of each and every writer which makes him by default stronger than anything in marvel and also means he predated everything in marvel and will always exists as the supreme power period. I also found a fairly good concept that follows logic and rational which shows where oblivion fits into the power scale. This next bit is copy and pasted from a forum post I found on Fandom and was created by "Azathoth the Abyssal Idiot" so all credit goes to him for this next bit. As I said before, if we are trying to line up multiple arcs as neatly as possible, this would probably be the best way to go about it. Abstracts' M-Bodies Chaos King others yet still has his own abstract chronal dimension) Tribunal, combination of all Abstracts and embodiment of all there is in the Marvel multiverse, including its lack of substance (Oblivion) the Tribunal and all it embodies, but also have their own chronal dimension on a higher plane) My reasons for this can be read in the latest reply chain on the blog. I feel this not only unifies things the best and takes multiple arcs and issues into consideration, but also solves the problem of the Beyonders killing TLT while not transcending time/having their own time by which they are bound. Of course, them dying to a Multiversal explosion is written off as obvious PIS, as the writers desperately needed a way to kill them.

WK AMV's Thanos didn’t necessarily beat the one above all. Remember the one above all represents the writers. Thanos with the infinity gauntlet still loses in fights. The thing is, it’s assumed that the one above all is most powerful in marvel but oblivion is a different case. When oblivion talks about how all creation returns to him and that he is the nothingness from which everything came he is referring to his realm. Remember the beyonders come from out side the marvel multiverse so they were able to kill the embodiment of the living tribunal and other abstracts because they exist in a higher plane of existence. Oblivion exists above the living tribunal and all other abstracts that’s why Mikaboshi was able to almost destroy the entire multiverse cause he had a small fraction of oblivion’s power and oblivion exists outside the marvel multiverse.

Thanks for making this! I've always felt that TOAA is overrated and a big part of his respect comes more from his name rather than any feats. I think the Pre-Retcon Beyonder is the most powerful fictional character ever created, because he was everything that existed outside the marvel multiverse and was surprised to find out that there was something in existence that was not a part of him. And a single blast from him was once described as being millions of times more powerful than the marvel multiverse.

In my head pre retcon Beyonder is still canon

What if Oblivion is just a foil to the one above all, seeing as that is a big theme in marvel comics, like lord chaos and the order one(can't remember the name) so it really isn't too strange to think that he is his polar opposite. TOAA is what created the universe and the sentient races, and Oblivion passively created the aspects after a couple universes go through.

In terms of tiering, he's on par with the living tribunal as a 1A outerversal being but does not answer to the LT. He's Beyond eternity / infinity Etc. Exists outside of the multiverse SpaceTime continuum. Didn't watch the video but he is Marvel's version of pralaya. Also 1A. Thank you for the video, Chuck. I subscribed. To try and clear up your questions about why Oblivion and The One Above All would have emotions and questions... well, we are created from them. They originated feelings like curiosity. Also, they and other abstract entities need to be personified so we can relate to them, read them, experience them. I think staring at black, nothing, void or bright light would be uninteresting. =) Also, what do you think about seeing Oblivion and The One Above All (TOAA) as being the Yin and Yang or Light and Shadow of the Marvel Universe? In World of Warcraft, in the beginning-beginning, there was constant tension between Light and Dark until, where their edges met, the physical universe was created. Lastly, where do you see The Brothers in the Marvel Cosmic hierarchy? The Blue Brother representing DC and The Red Brother as Marvel. I see The Brothers representing the actual companies... possibly higher than TOAA and Oblivion? Thanks again!
