Crime is high! And the drivers are TERRIBLE!!!! I’ve never lived in a place that I feel like I need to pack heat…don’t believe the hype by realtors…it sucks.
We lived in Greenville for 7 years. You can paint a rosy picture and split hairs but the crime is out of control in our neighborhood with multiple people get their doors kicked in in the middle of the day. Gunshots going off and all hours of the night and don't try to order an Amazon package to your house. It would just get taken off the porch by meth heads I never had a problem with physical violence downtown but watch out car break-ins on the rise as we were leaving. In the beginning it was a pretty safe place over to rise in popularity. I would look over my shoulder in certain neighborhoods. We lived 10 minutes from downtown

Kinda stung when you first started but glad you addressed this because the statistics are out there. Makes perfect sense how they get skewed. There's some old school businesses and eateries I go to in some of the "rougher" looking neighborhoods and I've never felt unsafe. And have never had a problem. But then I don't mope around, loiter nor cruise around aimlessly. Especially at night. Nor do I do those things in the high end areas either. Just be responsible and go about your business and all will be well

Spartanburg is far worse.

It isn’t true that crime In Spartanburg is “far worse “ than in Greenville. I have lived in Spartanburg for most of my life. Like all cities it has certain areas to avoid at night but overall the city is usually safe. It has addressed crime: the first city in the upstate to establish a homeless court and the first to hold a gun buyback it has implemented Real Time Crime technology . A major initiative to clean up a neighborhood on the north side of the city that had deteriorated following the textile mill closure has been underway for several years. A new city police headquarters recently opened.
