Another great podcast as always. Thank you Muzammil . Remote sensing is now vastly used in Pakistan in every sector and Mr. Bukhari brilliantly explained 1 application of it i.e, Agricultural Remote Sensing. From your reaction on satellite image, For the first time, i felt that being a Remote Sensing Professional is something that a common person is excited to know more about.

Unfortunately, the lands previously used for farming are now acquired by DHAs and other housing societies and it’s gravely affecting the agriculture. Housing societies bring zero remittances while agriculture can contribute greatly to our exchequer.

In India, Agriculture is not economically viable for new farmer startup. It is only good for people with inheritance of agriculture land. In Indian punjab, Agriculture land cost 15 to 22 lac indian rupees per acre which can be leased at 60 to 80 thousand indian rupees. So return on investment is around 5% that is tax free but still less. Even in Indian hinterland in UP bihar agriculture land is not that cheap. it is not worth relocation.

50:33 1. it is not just about increasing global population. It is about type of food people will eat. So world is getting richer and more people are consuming meat products. If we look at US data which is already a rich country we may say hey look people are consuming less beef. But when we zoom in to the data one can see increase in consumption of chicken. Now imagine rich asia and Africa world population hub getting richer n consuming more meat. We need to double protein production in next 30 years. 2. Global warming mean production in some areas are likely to decrease. For example USA corn belt is particularly dependent on rain. I was looking at last week data of corn. Let me tell you prices are going to rise even more. 3. Food price is major expense in developing or under developed world. In Pakistan food is around 40% of household expenditures. But even in developed world food is major expense with current price level. So 50% increase in price of food mean total destruction. Arab spring is one example how food prices can create mess in countries who are dependent on imported food.
