Are Egypt, Cairo and the Pyramides overrated? Or does social media just make it seem that way? Yes, probably, you expect more, visiting the great pyramides of Giza, the last remaining of the original 7 Wonders of the World in Egypt, Cairo. But why do we have these high expectations? Mainly, I think, because it is not depicted as it is, in media, incl. social media.
But, I personally think, there's a lot that we can do about that. Number one thing is, to look up our destination and to do some research and simply to know (!) that it might look different in real life. I think media has changed our perception of how places look like, and tourism has changed, how places really look like.
But tourism and social media cannot take away Egypts history, it's meaning for the world and for each and every one of us. Egypt will in my eyes always be an amazing country. Even though, I am not a fan of places, that you would call "touristy", I had to do the touristy thing in Cairo, Giza, as it was a huge dream of mine to see it in person.
But I learned a couple of things from it, and in this video, I am going to share everything, I've experienced and learned as a first time visitor and solo female traveler.
