Is EGO's best blower (LB7654) flawed? Battery Compatability Issue!

In this video, I present a problem I've found using my EGO LB7654 hand held blower. This is an absolute powerhouse of a leaf blower and I've done a full review of it previously. I love this blower. However, when I tried to pair mine with the larger 12.0ah battery from EGO, I quickly ran into a major problem!
After discussing the issue with EGO support, they indicated they'd never heard of anyone else encountering this issue but I feel like that's highly unlikely or just no one else has tried using this blower with the 12.0 ah batteries yet.
If you have the LB7654 Blower and a 12.0ah battery, I'd love to hear from you on whether you can successfully use the blower in turbo mode continuously without triggering the overheat protection in the battery.
I suspect it is a product level flaw.

I have had the same problem it is specific to 765 blower it happens on the 5ah 10ah and 12ah battery I have. I have exchanged my 765 blower 3 times at Lowe’s it’s fine if you don’t use turbo but if you do this problem you described happens all the time. This my never happened with my 650 blower

Yep I've had same issue with 7.5amp. Thay did fix it though with a new main board. But main board has blown 3 times in less than 12 months.

I also have this problem with a 7650 model just purchased and used for the first time today!!! Exactly as you described. 8:38

I've been dealing with this issue for the last 3 months. My 765 cfm does this with the 4amp, 5amp and 10amp batteries. I actually dropped it off for the 3rd time at Northern Tools to be serviced today. Ego customer service claims that it shouldn't shut off after pressing the turbo button for an extended period. It's definitely a manufacturer flaw that should be recalled, but Ego refuses to acknowledge. Maybe a class action lawsuit would change their minds. This tool wasn't cheap.

I suspected that 10.0ah battery would also result in the same behavior! Thanks for confirming! Also that confirms its not just my blower which I was also fairly confident that was true.

EGO needs to step up and fix this, in addition, they need to stop falsley advertising their runtime on turbo/or claiming compatability with all batteries. I own a substantial amount of EGO products and am typically happy with my purchases. The manner in which they're handling this would infuriate me and cause me to question my future business with them.

Whats the conclusion of this? Is EGO doing further investigation on there end? I have the exact same issue with my 765 and my 12Ah batteries that came with my snowblower! I use turbo to dry my car after washing it.

Based on the number of responses we've seen here, it clearly isn't a one-off issue. I don't have any direct contacts at EGO besides the general support number but would love to share this video and all the comments that have followed with EGO's engineering team.

This is surprising - a larger battery should definitely not be running into heat issues since the load is spread across more cells. I've had issues when using too small of a battery with some tools, like a 2.5Ah with a string trimmer running continuously in the summer. I have a dozen 12Ah batteries and use them all the time in many tools. I have a 7654 blower but haven't tried one in that as of yet. I'll try to remember to give it a try sometime soon. Does the battery have all 5 lights turn red? That's the indicator for a temperature problem.

I agree, I would have expected the same: using a smaller battery would result in overdischarge/overheating. All 5 lights do not flash red (that I've noticed), they flash green once and then nothing. After about 20-30 seconds they flash again and I can resume blowing. Alternatively, I can disconnect the battery and reconnect and resume blowing at turbo. I would love to hear if you encountered the same issue with your blower and the 12.0ah battery running on turbo! Please let us know!

@@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc Well, sure enough, mine does the same thing! That's pretty disappointing and seems to clearly be an issue with the tool...

@@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc I normally use an Ego Backpack Link (BH1001) and today got that out and tested again with the same blower and same battery. Taped the triggers down and let it run. 15 minutes later, it was still running. I don't know how this works around the compatibility problem but it does, and wearing the battery weight on your back is much more comfortable with a lot of tools. I recommend ordering one! I'm still going to complain about the issue to Ego.

@@caseygina3553 The backpack adapter does seem like a great product and its good to know that it "fixes" the issue with running 10ah and 12ah batteries in the LB7654! Thanks for sharing this as an option!

Does it happen with all of the 12ah batteries that your zero turn came with?

Correct, all of the 12ah batteries trigger this behavior from the hand held blower. They work fine in the new backpack blower and in the shopvac on turbo.

Excellent video! I have a similar problem with my HT2500. It will stop right in the middle of an easy cut for no reason. It is a beast of a hedge trimmer; theoretically; but not so much in practice.
