Calling Dune a "white saviour" movie represents a profound misunderstanding of Herbert's narrative arc for Paul, who is emphatically NOT a hero or saviour. The story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of colonialism, power, messianic figureheads and charismatic leaders. Paul only cares about himself, vengeance, and restoring his bloodline to the throne, and he and his scheming mother exploit the Fremen to achieve this. In the upcoming Part 3, we'll see his descent from revered messiah to tyrannical antihero. Even the Fremen turn against him.

I won’t watch the movies, but why is Chani featured so prominently in movie posters? Did they elevate her role in spite of the source material?

In part 2 of the book (once Paul joins the Fremen) she has a more substantil role. This next movie will also cover Dune Messiah which she is a big charcter in. I also think they're just playing her up because she is one of the most popular actresses in the world.

Her role isn't even substantial in the second part of Book one.

I look forward to seeing the second half of Dune and “Dune: Messiah.” Things will certainly escilate.

They only rival them because of the technology Paul gives them. Withot that they were just simple guerilla fighters.

The fremen were tan and blonde in the books.

In order to be a white saviour, Paul would need to be a saviour, and he clearly isn't.

White savior? No. These books take place so far in the future "race" isn't a thing. And I've never considered Paul a savior or even a hero. He's a survivor. These books are so darn political it's unreal, but the true "baddies" seem to be the Bene Gesserit and their infernal interference and breeding programs. And they only wanted a Kwisatz Haderach (male bene gesserit) they could control. Ultimately, through the books they were able to control none of them - which tells me the ones strong enough to survive wouldn't be the submissive type.

White saviour narrative is realistic though

The setting isn’t meant to be view as something good or that the imperium’s society is something to emulate.
