Makes sense to be consistent with other programs being used, such as if you're text editor has a white background, or the webpages you visit, or your Windows/Linux theme. Considering that the default for many other applications is a light theme, it makes sense to change it to be consistent.

Sheence its probably from the early days. We tried dc when it was Brand new, and it was horrible. Half couldn't Install it and the rest couldn't get their mics working. But they did turn a full 180 and now i wouldnt think twice about recommending it. I use both TeamSpeak and discord, Just because some are refusing Change like David frassoni above me here. I despise TS These days. DC all the way.

i just use discord now but I have plenty of memories of using skype with my friends playing games.

From what i found was teamspeak would use more ram but 0.1% of my cpu And discord would use less ram but 2.1-6% of my cpu Discord is made to look pretty thats number 1 priority And teamspeak number 1 priority is for lowest system and network usage possible (16gb 2133mhz 3930k 6 core @ 4.6ghz)

I also think that TeamSpeak and discord are for a completely different class of people. TeamSpeak is a pure voice chat app and nothing else. Discord on the other hand is a good voice chat app but is real good as a social app. TeamSpeak is a lot different and is better for different games. Discord HAS bots though, including music bots. Once you get used to how the ranks work on discord it's not hard to make a nice rank system. Plus discord is good for making a community, it's one thing if you game and use VC but it's another thing if you have a personal group or clan. It's nice to be able to game and also just chat and share fun things in the same place as well. I think Discord is really good for groups and keeping them active and together.

Man, I don't know if it's only here on Brazil, but the Discord audio quality it's veeeery bad, my friends voice are always lagging, with a huge delay and sometimes the mic simply is not detected by Discord.

I use Discord because all my friends refuse to use skype anymore because they hate it for reasons they can't actually explain to me. It's awful (better now than it was just a few months ago, but still, it's terrible)

feature that is so important and still missing in discord is the Channel Commander and possibility to install Addon, like TaskForceRadio to work inside Arma 3 or 2, thats why a lot of ppl still in Ts3

You should most likely change Discord's KBPS voice setting to the default, this makes discord sound slightly worse, but it makes up for that by lowering robottyness

Discord is the best out there atm, I get teamspeak is good and as a gamer my guild has used it in the past but discord for now is free and has a built in overlay so you don't need that bloatware piece of garbage Overwolf unlike teamspeak. Also never had any issues with routing or robot sounds as mentioned by Linus mind you I am in the EU and not the US.

Same here the only time I have seen any problems with Discord it was not on their end but end user with a crap connection, bad router, or slow system. So in Jake's case he's in Canada Ah so theres your problem sorurry.

My computer had a problem: thermal throttling. It affected severely the sound quality on discord with metallic sound and constant stuttering. Teamspeak always worked me perfectly in all conditions My laptop was fixed and this problems has almost disappeared but sometimes discord seems to fail again. It's not perfect I think this review lacks the resource and network usage data for each program. Also, performance on low end machines, impact on CPU usage and dependency of consistent CPU frequency since this problem was very noticeable on my laptop Also, Discord uses TOO MUCH CPU if I enable the camera. Although I think it's a bug.

+TheJaviJB I've noticed Discord uses way less CPU and RAM then Skype does in every possible way, but once you start screen sharing? Might as well forget it. Even in the largest of groups and calling with 25 people in it, screen sharing to all of them still won't max out your CPU while using skype (even with audio being transmitted) but on Discord? Even doing with 1 person maxes it out, and doing it with 10 people in a group just makes it worse. I'm not sure if it's because the Discord dev's never optimized the screen sharing ability, or if it's just still in beta, but it's extremely annoying.

On discord, you can limit the number of channels. It is the host's fault there are more than one.

Discord probably uses sound compression so when your internet (like mine a lot) gets to a low enough bitrate people sound robotic.

What I really like about TS (that mumble would also do for me) is that since it is locally hosted, I can connect to other PCs on my local network without using the internet connection at all. As a result, the very limited bandwith that we have at our house (especially the upstream that is important in multiplayer games and gets used heavily by voicechats) is fully available for the game clients on the PCs in the house. As soon as you get multiple PCs online, this can actually reduce in-game lag noticeably, and during the time where our internet would sometimes drop out, we could still talk via TeamSpeak, meaning we didn't have to leave our chairs and go through the annoying process of real-world communication.

You cannot do it on skype in an integrated fashion.. You have to fake the bot as being a real user.

Been using Discord since 2015 now and i love it. It's really easy to use and itt sounds way better then Skype when in actual calls.

I have knowledge of VoIP; I still use Discord more than any other social media similar to it. You see, Skype and--partially--TeamSpeak were my only two options for years and years. I was seriously hoping that one day something like Discord would be created. The first minute I heard that there was a brand new platform of social media, I hopped out of Skype and TS faster than lightning without having to think twice about it. I don't need more customizability just because I know how to work myself around the apps I use, I just want something more simple... and modern.

Who noticed that only one shot had Discord with Streamer Mode on? Every other shot has both their usertags

Over the 1000+ hours I've used Discord, I've never had that "No Route" issue. I've had my internet go out a few times (and then I saw RTC Connecting), but that doesn't count. I don't think that's an issue for most people (me being one of them). EDIT: I use US East and Central servers. I'm not in the EU. I don't think this is a US problem (maybe US West specifically?)

GamingOcto - osu! and Stuff if you have bad internet or are on a vpn you will get it, also I think you will get errors like that if you have a lower spec cpu and the usage gets full

yea, i've been using discord since around fall 2015 and never had that problem, the only time i get problems is when my internet poops out, or they're having server problems.

I really haven't got any problems with discord. I just love the design, functionallity, multiple settings

Discord has the option to add bots. From bots that play music to bots who send hentai pics. Discord is the best

Discord also has a number of easy to use, setup and add bots. I was able to code, install and use my first bot in about half an hour.

This one hit too close to home.

I still remember my old WoW days when ventrillo was the gold standard. One of the main reasons was voice normalization so when those assholes rolled in to your channel and blasted music or started screaming with their output set to max, it would sound at a totally reasonable level (but only if you looked up how to do the normalization and spent some time setting it up).
