20-year-old Avery Roberson turned the chairs of all four coaches on “The Voice” with his blind audition of Tim McGraw’s “If you’re reading this."
“The Voice” actually isn’t the first time Avery has auditioned for a television talent competition.
In August of 2019, Avery and his buddy Kanaan Brock made the two-hour drive from Rutherfordton to Columbia, South Carolina to audition for the 2020 season of American Idol.
Avery’s public performances became more frequent and in February of 2021 he announced he had auditioned for season 20 of “The Voice." For his blind audition, Avery performed a heartfelt rendition of Tim McGraw’s “If You’re Reading This.” The performance earned chair turns from all four coaches and set up an intense battle with coaches vying to land Avery on their team.
Coach Kelly Clarkson told Avery, “"I thought it was quite remarkable how you didn't do what people expect people to do to get four-chair turns which is to wail everywhere.
Coach Blake Shelton made his pitch saying, " I am the only person on this panel who knows the person who sings the song you just sang. It's important to have a concrete understanding of country music.
Avery admitted, “I would love to work with any of y’all. Y’all are amazing, but I have to go with my gut on this one.

Maybe you lost the title but you surely won our hearts, i listen to his songs every day, morning coffee and bedtime till i fall asleep....

This kid is definitely going places! As a wanna be singer myself many years ago I am happy to see Avery represent North Carolina. He is the definition of a country boy and has that down. He doesn't need Blake to show him how to be country. He already is.

5:36 those harmonies were beautiful. I remember one Fourth of July when I was at school and my class was outside standing around the flag pole, singing this song, and I started tearing up, I had to rein in my emotions. I was only about 7 at the time, but didn't want to let anyone see me getting all worked up. Avery has a pure voice, he's gonna go far!😆👍🏼
No I think he has competition with younger country singers but he sings alright
Avery was let go by Blake. Kelly stole him. He’s definitely talented and the song Blake chose favored Ethan’s low voice, but Avery made it close. I think Blake will regret letting him go. The key is to find songs that tell a story, but feature his voice. I definitely think he will make the finals. There are a lot of talented singers, but I like his odds of winning it all...
I just saw him today. He is the star. Blake, don’t let John get to you. John and Blake, I feel that I’m watching Republicans and Democrats. I love the show, but if the feud continues, I will be forced to leave you. I have an ear for music. God’s gift to me. Love for all art of all kinds and all music. You are becoming a show that children will not be able to watch. All of you, I admire. I’ll leave before the focus is on the judges and not the talent before us. I say this with each of you.

They aren't really fighting. It's all in good fun Get real. You act like they call each other names and throw punches. You obviously are really old and have no sense of humor. Stop watching The Voice or continue watching. Either way, it's unimportant because the millions that do watch will continue to, even the old people like you, except they have a sense of humor
