After growing up in Central Ohio, the natural progression is to move to Columbus, but this was a very different town in the early 2000s. After surviving the Great Recession, Columbus has been on an absolute tear. While the recession was rough, we tended to fare better than many other cities partially due to the diverse amount of employers in the area. That, along with a focus on redevelopment of areas close to Downtown, population growth and the relatively cheap cost of living have helped buoy the Central Ohio area.
It doesn't seem that long ago in 2009 when residents were stoked to get Yuengling Lager to the area. Fast forward a short decade and today we have over 50 local breweries and our own "Ale Trail". That is just one of the fantastic changes.
Leaving for ten years, I left more or less a cow town and returned to a City bustling with boutique shops, coffee houses and restaurants, a renewed focus on fitness and somehow it seemed sunnier. In fact, it was such a cool city that we decided to stay.

I’ve lived on the west side of Columbus since around 1992. Seems like it gets worse every year. I’ve lived on the Hilltop for the last 24 years now and it never seems to get help from the city. It’s sad seeing all the addicted people every day. We live along Hague ave and the police don’t even respond to some of the shooting calls anymore. You are correct about leaving your car unlocked. It’s easier letting someone rummage in a empty car than it is to replace a busted window. Lots of theft and prostitution.

I'm not sure why the police are not responding over there, but have felt uncomfortable there many times. I really feel for those that are addicted and hope they can find some light in their lives to turn it around. At some point it will get better over there, but I think it could be some time still.....Still feels icky having someone go through your car, but much cheaper than a window.

@@dauseanadoingme3824 so these areas actually tend to be safer than Columbus city area code neighborhoods?

If your not living in the out skirts. Your chances of running into crime is high. I dont shop, buy gas or anything in my own area. I drive further out just to avoid B.S. i pull out my driveway and hit the freeway elsewhere. Housing is so expensive. The biggest magority of people are forced to live in not so desirable areas.

He'll no. Columbus is a toilet. Thugs and punks drugs and high cost of living stay outta here. Columbus people are not friendly and the schools ratings are horrible. Crime is high and please don't move to south linden unless you want to be shot and end up dead.
