The Northernmost point of Brazil is localizated in "Roraima", and Boa Vista (a important city in Roraima) have a great inspiration, Boa Vista is "a small Paris". And Roraima in summer rainy cats and dogs because it's next to Equatorial Line

Is there anything I'm missing? I measured out the distance from the north to the south of Brazil to be roughly 4,200km, and the distance from the north of Brazil to Nova Scotia to be 4,500km. Please let me know if I'm not considering islands or anything.

I think when people claim Chile is the longest country, they probably mean longest compared with the width.

Fun fact: the longest country from the northernmost point to the southern is actually norway (from the top of Svalbard to the bottom of it's Antarctica claim

I think the reason why people (visually) think Chile is longer is because Brazil has a bigger width than Chile. Chile being narrow gives it an illusion of being longer than Brazil, even though absolute distances say otherwise. 😊

WHY DID YOU SPOIL THE ANWSER-

The contiguous distance of Chiles northern to southernmost point is 4042km not 4270km. This makes it the third tallest country in the world. In addition to being the widest country Russia is also the second tallest with a contiguous distance of 4,065km from north to south.

I've just measured distance between Russia's continental extreme north and west points (Cheluskin cape and Ragdan mountain) by Yandex maps, it was 4781 km. Google maps measure the same

@@konstkaras You're doing it wrong. You measure based on the coordinates to get rid of any distance on the other axis. Argentina for example is 39.04 degrees. Brazil is 39.02, but it's closer to the equator so the distance is slightly longer

This is a very interesting curiosity that is immensely unknown even among Brazilians

Isn't Russia also the longest nation? The northern part is these islands in the artic and the southest part is somewhere in the Caucasus. That's quite large

Canada's northern point to southern point is 4634km. Longer than Brazil or Chile; however, it's not contiguous, as the northern point is in the arctic archipelago. For widest countries, Canada is a distant 2nd to Russia, at only 5513km.

Looking at the world map , I never understood why Russia was not the Longest country before Chile ...🤔

In terms of North and South, East and West directions, it does. Russia's nature and climate are basically the same all over the country, but in Brazil, they get much more diverse and interesting.

The world's shortest country is probably the Maldives. Y'know, vertically the shortest. ;-)

It is the longest in relative terms to its width.

You measure Russia wrong. The most distance is between Baltiisk on the west to Shikotan island on the east. It will be about 8000 km

If we're just talking about northern most point and southern most point it would be Norway, with the Svalbard islands in the Arctic circle and Norway's claims on Antarctica. Even if you exclude Antarctic claims, Norway has Bouvet island in the southern Atlantic. Edit: Just heard him say "non-continuous land", so it's invalid in terms of continuous land

China is longer: 5,500Km from North to South in a straight line.

Russia is slightly “wider”, covering 36.5 degrees of latitudes north to south, than Chile is long, at 36.4.
