Is ChatGPT the Best or WORST thing that has happened to humanity? A critical view using WIKI GPT

Ғылым және технология

This time not a restored, colorized historic video but in stead an analysis of an ultra-modern topic!
You probably have been on a vacation to the moon if you have not yet heard of the latest development with Artificial Intelligence called "ChatGPT".
ChatGPT is taking the world by storm. It is being developed by a company called Open AI that was originally founded and funded by Elon Musk.
The first reactions since ChatGPT's introduction in November last year have been utter amazement, but now the dust is starting to settle a bit, more and more people and organisations are starting to look at the darker sides of Artificial Intelligence projects like ChatGPT. More and more worries are being expressed of what effects it could or even will have on humanity.
As a long-time builder of voice activated personal assistants, in particular for blind and visually impaired users, I have been intrigued by the abilities of A.I.'s. For that reason I have added ChatGPT to my already rather powerful assistant and thus created my own "Wiki GPT" app which will be used throughout this video.
My question now is whether I should continue to build on ChatGPT or that I should refrain from doing any further work on it out for fear what effects such A.I's will have on our entire World.
In particular, like many others, I will now address my deep concerns. I think it will be an eye opener!
The full transcript of this personal analysis can be read here:
www.ricksfilmrestoration.com/C...
More information about my (for the moment free) WIKI GPT app can be found here: www.ricksfilmrestoration.com/W...
Comments are most welcome. Please be polite, thoughtful and respectful!
Nonsensical rubbish comments will be removed, so please don't bother to make them. The whole idea is to help and make you reflect about what A.I.'s are going to mean to human society and to you personally in the very near future. If ever there has been a super-intelligent instrument that has been released into the open then it is ChatGPT!

*UPDATE: We have had to suspend our efforts to further develop our WiKiGPT app as demonstrated in this video . The reason is that OpenAI's (ChatGPT's maker) customer support is almost non-existent. We have been trying to get an API subscription for 4 months now, but they just don't bother to respond* . Read the sad reviews on Trustpilot: www.trustpilot.com/review/openai.com *Don't worry that ChatGPT is going to change the world. They are already close to having committed commercial suicide. We are not going to spend a dime on this A.I. unless they start to act like a real, professional and decent company* . If you prefer to watch only restored, enhanced and colorized videos on my channel then please simply skip this video. Plenty of historic videos are still to come!

Thank you for sharing your perspective on the subject. It was well thought out, presented fairly, and had interesting points. Hopefully if we continue to think through these issues, discuss their use cases, and utilize tools of this type to enable/facilitate our own activities they will be a boon. Otherwise, I have the concern that they will continue the trend of supplanting, replacing, and externalizing the experience of being alive into things that don't feel or care about life. I enjoy your historical preservation works as well :)

Growing up in the 1970's I struggled with fractions. I could do all the basic functions on paper but it was hard work. Then in 1977 the Casio FX2000 came out with an A B/C button that could handle any fraction calculation you could think of. In no time it completely destroyed my ability to do the calculations on paper as I never bothered. I deeply suspect ChatGPT will have the same effect on today's students research and writing ability not to mention critical thinking and reasoning. We've already seen this with Google; why bother to remember something when a few keystrokes will bring up the information. So yes, ChatGPT is a disaster in the making. A generation of ignorant people who are completely unable to think for themselves or, as we used to call them, morons.

Yes, but now Science Fiction ("SciFi") has indeed turned into Science Fact ("SciFa"). On the one hand I really love Chat GPT but on the other hand it scares me to hell when I think deeper about what implications it will (not might) have on our World. In this video I share my thoughts about these implications. It is not a video about the "wonders" of Chat GPT. For that there are already hundreds of videos on KZread to be watched.

I remember watching The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger when I was younger. There was a scene where they superimposed Arnie's face on someone else to make it appear to viewers of the Running Man show that he had been killed. I remember thinking it was the most ridiculous outlandish thing ever. Today I watched a clip from Titanic which featured Leonardo DiCaprio playing Jack and Windslet's character played by Arnie...

It's just a Large Language Model (LLM). Not comparable to Terminator 2, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Minority report or the Matrix. Like, AT ALL. The model just predicts the most likely "next words", based on your input. And it can only respond based on the data that it's been fed. Stop freaking out and learn what it is (and what it's not).

There are sooo many variables that could influence the development and impact of artificial intelligence on human society. It will have significant implications for the future of work, education, and the whole society for sure as you mentioned. There is e potential for AI to have a positive impact on human society, for example by improving healthcare, and solving complex global problems it is a bit like the beginning of internet and its opertunities. However, the potential risks associated with AI, such as job displacement, privacy concerns, and the development of autonomous weapons freak me out. Ultimately, the future of AI and its impact on human society will depend on the choices and decisions that are made by organizations, and governments.I think large bodies of influence that happen to have common interest and arn't democraticially elected or accountable, will use this ai to control power. We already saw that happening during the pandamic and with WEF and this will surely happen even more now.

For 90% of the Jobs ChatGPT could, can and will (be able to) take over, these traits are totally not required. Just look at the job examples that I describe in this video. Also look at the Wordsworth poem it generated in my video. It did that without the ´creativity` and ´empathy´ that you think it is lacking. I can´t tell that this poem was written without feeling and merely the result of an algorithm hashing up poems in general plus in particular poems by Wordsworth. The algorithm simply reconstructed the poem by processing the embedded feelings, creativity and intelligence that were already present in the reference poems! To large extent humans don´t really do it much differently. Feelings and creativity are largely learned, mimicked and copied traits, obtained already at childhood primarily from our parents and in later life from others. The way the brain works is far more robot-like than we think. There is even evidence that our `free will´ is in fact just an illusion and throughout life we are constantly being fooled by our own brain. Apparently ChatGPT has already passed the Turing test: www.pcguide.com/apps/chat-gpt-pass-turing-test/ I wouldn´t be surprised that it soon will even be able to fool us that it is sentient (probably within a year, if not sooner).

@@Rick88888888 Let me put it differently. AI will always be prone to errors by the simple fact that it learns from humans and even allows itself to be reprogrammed by humans. The ability to decide not to be programmed is a valuable human trait that AI cannot posses. Also, this is what makes humans actually creative and not mere creative parrots of historical data on the web.

@@Rick88888888 ChatGPT is a machine learning model designed by OpenAI and is capable of generating text based on the input it receives. While it can perform tasks such as text generation, it does not possess human-like emotions, creativity, or sentience. It does not have a sense of self-awareness or consciousness. The text it generates is based on patterns and relationships it has learned from vast amounts of data and not on its own subjective experiences or emotions. It is important to note that while ChatGPT can generate content that appears to be creative or empathetic, it is not experiencing these emotions. The idea that human feelings and creativity are learned, mimicked, and copied traits is a matter of debate in the scientific community. More research is needed to fully understand the nature of human emotions and creativity.

People through many years have been scared or worried about new technologies, and only then realizing the benefits it provides. Yes, some things may change a bit, like we're not gonna need to solve hard math problems or memorize tons of information that we don't even need to use more than a couple times. But we'll gain the skill of finding the information we need fast which would make us more efficient. Every technology that's known has made positive impact on our lives, and so will AI do.
