I was born and raised in the Upstate SC area, specifically Spartanburg, SC. I have been thinking about relocating within the state, but my problem with the Charleston, SC area is the CRAZY FLOODING that happens in the area, whenever it rains. We don't have flooding problems in the upstate like Charleston has.

The Crazy Flooding you maybe referring to, is what you see in Downtown Charleston and unless you are buying a multi million dollar home near the battery, flooding won't be too much of an issue as long as you pay attention to Flood Zones. Anything in an X Flood Zone is likely to only flood 1 time in 500yrs. Where as some home downtown are likely to flood multiple times a year. I would recommend Suburbs like Summerville where the infrastructure has planned for the water and flooding issues. It makes the days with a lot of rain, a lot easier to handle. You're certainly not driving through feet of water.

upstate SC is probably as ideal climatically and geographically you can get in the southeast. far enough from the coast to avoid brunt of hurricanes. far enough from the mountains to avoid mountain weather. Not too hilly not too flat. Right in between two large cities - atlanta and charlotte. Robust economy. Good housing market. overall pleasant climate. Lived 10 years in greenville area. Thinking of going back in the area to retire.

One of the pros is the amazing food and culture. I miss good soithern cooking and other locations have no idea what a hush puppy really is.

But the food, sweet tea, and the beaches make up for all of that.

@@LivinginCharlestonSC1 maybe so. I grew up southerner and on sweet tea. Can't stand the stuff now. and the food - maybe so... just eat indoors away from the big bugs. Guess I'm neutral about beaches. I prefer them without hurricanes.

Well if you want great beaches with no Hurricanes, you really need to go to Aruba, the only place where the weather doesn't destroy the coast every couple of years. The food is pretty amazing. I haven't really dealt with too many big bugs, but I also played outdoors most of my childhood. Bugs don't really bother me like most people.@@user-nx9sp8pn8w
