In the video, the 8mm round seems to impact slightly nose-up. Bullets tend to wobble a bit immediately after leaving the muzzle and often travel over 100 yards before that wobble is damped out. This is often called " bullet going to sleep". IIRC some WWI-era bullets were found to have their best consistent penetration of obstacles like sandbags at somewhere near 200 yards for this reason. Some FMJ bullets like the US M193 and M855 have much better terminal effects against animals when they hit at a slight angle. The problem was that the yawing effect is unpredictable and about 1 out of 6 bullets would hit the target almost straight-on and penetrate much deeper before yawing or breaking up. This was called the "fleet yaw problem". A primary reason for the design of the M855A1 was more consistent terminal effect that did not rely on impact angle.

Oh I see. Because I'm Egyptian and I was thinking it might have been the low quality barrel. When I was in the army all our service weapons were "helwani" and it was a well known thing that the AK would burn out under heavy auto firing much easier than the Russian one. When I say heavy auto I mean as in southern Egypt weddings, not in combat, which is much more ruthless full auto by the way. So I guess Egyptian Mauser is just as good as the German one.

3d printed stuff. I run a 3d printing company. Not only is it becoming a massive thing world wide but huge in the 2A community. I believe there is tons of content to be made around that. As well as tons of experiments. Explosives, bullets, armor. Sure all of it is going to give out but I think seeing how and where in slow motion (let's say a torture test on a printed AR lower until it fails) the device fails. This would provide incredible insight for the 3d printing community as well as the firearms industry. People are going to innovate, would be fun to see yall be a part of it! Since I was a kid watching the Matthew McConaughey movie “Sahara“, I’ve always wondered what ballistics would look like against a Civil War ironclad, specifically, the USS Virginia. It was 24 inches thick, staggered oak and pine, plated with 2 inches of rolled iron. Would love to see how well the armor would hold up to both period accurate, as well as modern munitions.

The difference between the 8mm Mauser impact and the .30-06 impact is that the 8mm out of the Hakim (pronounced Ha keem) started off with a flat trajectory out of the barrel but was already starting to go nose-up when it struck the plate (trying to keyhole). The .30-06 had a normal trajectory when it hit the plate. Hakim barrel is shot out.

@@Fadaar Yes. The construction on the black tips is a pointed tungsten carbide core so it retains more mass and has a better shape to force its way through armor. The API is really only designed to pernitrate aircraft and helicopters and start fuel/munition fires. The AP (black tip) is designed to defeat light armored ground vehicles. And from having used both in real world applications the black tip punches through more.

16:08 I love how the plate looks like it is staying in exactly the same plate, transferring the energy into the dummy, but not moving itself

All the nerd stats in each slow-mo is highly appreciated.... Thank you. 😁👍 I feel like if the 50bmg shot had the plates stacked it might have punched through both... That was such an awesome shot. ❤️

Yes ceramic is the best but don't support that company armored republic. I use to work for them and they are horrible people running that place. The higher ups treat the employees like absolute shit. The owner is married to the safety managers ex wife. And he has the safety managers kids call him dad. And they claim to be Christian but they are far from that. They are huge money grabbers. And they're bigger on quantity over quality. I work for tyr tactical now and they are a way better company. AR is just filled with horrible people running that place.

Just to add, matter-of-factly: These have ceramic plates, but the leftovers of the .50 BMG, the white woven sheets, are Dyneema, or UHMWPE in woven form. Just wanted to point out this isnt just ceramic plates. There's more material science here as well. Keep up the legendary videos, Fellas!

The 8mm muzzle flash was so cool ! I would love to see a video about different type of muzzle break from different guns. And see what it does, how it does it, and why.

Always been a big fan of ceramic armor. To be perfectly honest I'm glad I didn't get hooked on AR500 a few years ago when that was the rage online. Just an anecdote, but certain aspects came to mind after hearing your analysis. Not at all claiming to have any vast wealth of knowledge, but I have been able to confirm for my own interests, that composite ceramic armor does degrade somewhat past a number of years. I've heard more or less the same from others about that as well. I still don't prefer to rock steel plates, but I also can't say I enjoy replacing plates every 5-6 years, even if it's for the sake of proper safety. I know you folks have a proper filming schedule and plenty of content to make still, but would love to see high-speed shooting some level 4 plates that are a couple years past the marked 'shelf-life' date. Oh, and want to say I'm so relieved that Adam is still with us! It really would have been a tragic loss for the entire firearm enthusiast community, but you guys have shown you can't be beat now, which is pretty kick-ass.

I'm amazed that the two Lvl 4 Armor Republic plates actually stopped the BMG 50 round. Altho had the second plate had been strapped directly to the torso, I suspect the torso would see severe concussion and internal damage. The 50 packs some SERIOUS punch!
