Would this work well with Spitfire Audio libraries? I noticed when you said that this would not fit the more traditional orchestra sounds (which Spitfire does). I thought about going with 8dio Claire Woodwinds instead but the idea of getting strings, brass, winds, and vocal soloists in one package is tempting.

Great review! I'm torn. I already have Audio Imperia Nucleus, and use their instruments for solo lines. It seems the only real addition in Solo (for me) would be the switch between legatos, which is great, but I don't feel like is worth buying it. But someone convince me if I'm wrong...!

Thank you! Things that Solo adds on top of Nucleus soloists: More articulations, way more expressive/lyrical samples, gorgeous shorts (vs. no shorts in Nucleus), 2 legatos. If you only want to add the occasional solo cello/horn/flute//oboe/violin legato line, then Nucleus should be enough. But as soon as you want that extra emotional expressiveness and/or mix it up with articulations other than legato/sustained, Solo will shine. I'll publish a video where I layer Nucleus Ensemble with Solo, very soon :)

Love their modern, "cinematic" (hehe) sound. The classic mix gives their orchestral products great versatility for a less processed mood, too.

What about the solo instruments in Nucleus? Are they the same thing?

No, different recordings. Nucleus solo instruments are very limited in articulations (but great if they are your first solo instruments!)

Question: Can you automate/control the vibrato of the instruments? I have Nucleus, and one of the huge disappointments is that you can't automate/control the vibrato of the solo instruments, which makes this unplayable for me. Judging from this video, it looks like again you can't control/automate vibrato ..... if you could, I would buy this immediately. If you can't, what's the point?

Hi, it's not possible to control or automate the vibrato with Solo. To me, as these are labeled "lyrical and expressive soloists" it's not a big deal because I feel like the baked-in performances are great usable for this purpose. I wouldn't even bother controlling the vibrato even if I could. However, I've never felt the urge to automate the vibrato in any instrument anyway, so I may as well just be incredibly unsophisticated in my writing! :D

My issue with not being able to control/automate the vibrato is that .... when a note is sustained, it works like a "loop" .... going from non-vibrato, to vibrato, then back to non-vibrato, etc, etc, etc ..... just looping over and over again. So it totally sounds like a looped sample, rather than the way a musician would actually play. At least - this is my unsophisticated view/understanding of things! :-)

I agree with you. I haven't tried SOLO, but you sustain a note most of these libraries they will continue the vibrato after the initial press, where there is a delay. There are 3 aspects to control in the more controllable instruments (modeled ones like Sample Modeling Strings for instance). You control the delay time, the depth, and also the rate. The rate may not seem to matter to Kevin in the style of music he's making, but as soon as you start making music that has more going on rhythmically, in the modern sense, it is natural to want the vibrato to follow the rhythm.
