Thanks Kevin, once again, for a great review of the new libs from Performance Samples. Perfect timing - I wanted to strike today :) Although Performance Samples is a no-brainer for me - the review here still strengthened my urge to buy 😄

The Vista 2 Solo Cello is sounding great, but it seems to have some issues. The notes continues to play non-stop after I've released the key from my keyboard. Is this a known issue?

It's all great in the tone, but unless it's a full package deal, it's too pricy for a hobbyist. I dived into audioimperia marketing a few years ago and honestly I don't need another addiction to overlapping or lacking of material. I would pay more just to have everything like solo and full strings sections and more broad technicalities.

when you set the offsets correctly on your tracks . do the shorts play in time.. can you write shorts at 180bpm 3/4 straight off the keyboard, i know this sounds silly but now this is the most important thing to me for a selling point lolol, i don't write like everyone else. i write live like what Vangelis did. i'm building a live setup thingy, it only works with Reaper DAW, i think some ppl would be amazed if they saw what i'm doing. it's not for everyone that's for sure tho, some ppl like still writing track to track one at a time, and yes i still do that also , but what i'm doing is very very fun.. music should be fun.

If you compensate for the sample delay, everything is in time on the grid. The values are written on each patch. But this won't allow for zero latency recording when you play in live, of course. Not sure I understood you correctly. I recommend downloading the Fluid Shorts 3 Demo Freebie, then you can try it out.

i see you are in to the bombastic/epic/trailer orchestral music more than refined/classical orchestral music. Maybe you should make that more clear in the title and scope. I say this, because the libraries you pointed out are more suited towards the former style. (except cinematic studio series). Nothing wrong with that ofcourse, many people like bombastic/epic/trailer music, but clarifying this more, would help getting the right audience per video. I am for one not so much in that epic genre, more into refined/classic corner, so from the whole list, only the cinematic studio series would be an option. For my genre, quite a few are missing, whom are more suitable for the classical type of music (Yes, even John Williams does classical type more than epic): BBC SO, Hollywood Orchestra, Berlin main libraries, Symphony orchestra (old bundle or repackaged), VSL (VI or Synchron) offerings, SM Brass/Strings, heck even Pacific (as layer strings library) are all missing, just to give you some examples. Again, not to bash.. it's a good video, but not very broad in terms of genres covered. And as always, never buy libraries for the MSRP price, always wait for sales.

I coincidentally bought these three libraries a couple of days ago, and I am in complete agreement with the above revue. I already have several solo string libraries; they all have something valuable about them, and they all have some cons. But all in all, the above three PS libraries will be my go to when it comes to, for example, solo cello, in particular the legato patches, together with the CinematicSS and the Tina Guo cellos.

"Very fluent and agile" I can instantly hear the transitions breaking apart into a double-note fest. 😂 Can't you notice it? I'm glad I got PSS as a loyalty freebie, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone willing to pay for it. They are good as first chairs but not ideal for serious solo work. Jasper should have called them Pacific Strings - First Chairs. I like the noisy samples, but I've noticed too many issues with the programming. Load up the cello and play F4, G4, A4, B4 upward and downward as quick example; way too many transition glitches, very sloppy. Also, the constant molto vibrato can severely limit the library's usability. I wish we had an option for a more natural, gradual vibrato. The thing with Performance Samples libraries is that they are usually really good at one thing and one thing only. As soon as you start trying to use them in a different context, their limitations become very apparent. The official demos are an honest representation of what they are aimed at. You have to pick your notes very carefully and consider how often you will play them; otherwise, it breaks the illusion (at least for me). Vista II is much better, even if legato only.

The performance on these are awesome! I never realized how muddy, and verby they sound though. You probably have to EQ the heck out of them, or no? Do they sit nice with other libraries and in a full mix being how they are?
