I've researched this a little bit. Apparently if you were personally negligent, a LLC will not protect you. An attorney could pierce the corporate veil and you'll still be personally responsible. Plus, there is more paperwork and taxes. Liability insurance will protect you better. Liability insurance plus a LLC would be even better, just don't depend on the LLC to always protect you.

I had trouble piercing the umbrella with an employer. (Leaving the company name generic) it was "Company XXX LTD dba" "Company ABC LLC"

Here’s a question... do you really need to establish a “business” entity just to use your drone to make money? I have a P4P and a 107. If a friend who is a realtor wants to pay me for photographing properties, at what point do I need to get a business license, an LLC, Business tax ID, or professional insurance? If I purchase my equipment with personal funds and what I make is more or less on the side how does that work? Like, I could offer a service of painting houses or cutting lawns without actually having a “XXX Business, LLC, .inc” right?

It depends where you are and what type of work you take on. Any time you take in money for services you really should be claiming this as income. You really want at least a DBA so when you eventually do get paid by a company with a check and they report that to the IRS you’re able to decrease your tax liability with your drone operating expenses under your DBA. If you’re planning on seriously doing this you need to establish a business, get liability insurance, etc.

How are you guys endorsing dronebase when ive read so many negative reviews about this company? Didn't you also say it was a bad thing for Pilots to drive the price down for their services? It appears that Dronebase does that on a massive scale!
