That Solasfera Princess cut is magnificent! That is what I think most people are thinking of when they want a princess cut, but sadly cannot get the optics they are looking for out in the market. Yours is an example of a perfect look! Thanks for all of your video demonstrations. I have learned a LOT from them and now I know what to look for when purchasing diamonds.

The Ideal round brilliant is still the best coz it have a good balance of bright and minimal dark areas making it appear transparent and visually better and the huge flashes sparkle or fire is so eye catching whereas the Solasfera just look too white and not transparent looking at all and the sparkle are many but little.

I like that common princes cut one. But you are right the soulless princess cut diamond is the brightest.

You need to compare the same color, cut and clarity Princess and Round, or else you're comparing Apples to Oranges. Those of you who wants to know the truth, just drop by any jewelry store at the mall and see for yourself. I did, and the Round shape always outperforms the Princess (and other shapes such as Oval, Cushion, Emerald, Pear, Heart etc) in brilliance and fire. So if you're looking for the most sparkly diamond, go with the Round. Hence, the Round shape diamonds are more expensive than any other shapes (assuming they are the same Carat, Cut, Color and Clarity).

Totally agree! I went to a jewelry store and saw this myself as well. When you have an excellently cut round with good color and decent clarity it will always outperform a princess in brilliance and fire.

We agree. If you desire brilliance over a specific shape, (although not always the case) a Round diamond will be your safest bet!

But what you did in the video was deceiving by trying to convince others the Princess cut was superior to Round. I call total BS.

About 30 seconds in the video we mention that "Generally the Ideal Cut Rounds eat for lunch the fancy shapes". Perhaps we were not clear enough, but there was no intention to deceive people. We show people these "visual video's" to decrease the chances of deception compared to them just having to trust what we or other retailers say. I believe the purpose of this video was to show people that you can get some rare fancy shaped diamonds that hold their own alongside Round Ideal cut diamonds regarding brilliance. The Solasfera Princess and even the Hearts and Arrow Cushion diamonds are a great examples of this in my opinion. But I guess it comes down to personal preference..

It's actually considered a Princess diamond, but it's slightly elongated. Radiant diamonds have cut corners compared to squared off corners.

Just bought a common cut princess with rounds on the shank and I'm upset that the band outshines the center. It's still nice looking in low light, but in daylight it almost looks like a piece of plastic on a nice setting. Alas, it's my second set (an anniversary gift) so I do not see myself replacing it any time soon. ☹️

I see what you mean.. We sell princess diamonds that work well with round side stones (without that huge drop-off in brilliance you're talking about) and many of them aren't even branded princess diamonds. Although rare, since they are unbranded their cost should still be in the ballpark of what you paid. So if you're ever in the market again for an amazing princess diamond (or any diamond for that matter), feel free to contact sales@goodoldgold.com and we'll be happy to search for and wide to offer you the intense optical performance your ultimately looking for.

@@DiamondInfoMan yeah I'm pretty sure Zales just stuck an ugly rock in my beautiful setting. I'll probably go with a less corporate jeweler next time, better customer service and more willing to make the customer happy and no trying to upsell. I swear they showed it to me with a completely different diamond than the one we received, and then when we pointed it out after picking up the ring, they said they have plenty of diamonds that have papers and are fully certified if we wanted a nicer looking diamond. What a dirty trick.

You did not mention what grade of the cut for the round diamond, it can be not brilliant ideal? You should not compare fancy cut to round cut diamonds as there is no grade for the fancy cuts.. so the comparation is not apple to apple..

"hearts and arrows round" aka tolkowsky cut diamond. Leo diamonds are far and above these presented. Both available at any Kay Jewelers. Above all these is the beautiful Swanna cut diamonds by Dana Augustine.

I don't think that the term "ugly" applied to the diamond seen in this video is a "fact" as stated -- it is an opinion. The lighting shown on the three stones for comparison, ESPECIALLY when the more intense lighting is used to highlight sparkle, is most CERTAINLY shining more directly on the stone in the center than the round stone on the right (this is clearly noted when observing the light intensity on the scratched display rack), giving an unfair advantage to the center stone. Stating that a brilliant cut stone refracts light better than any other cut is a relative statement -- it goes without saying that a less ideal version of a brilliant cut can be considerably less dazzling than a better quality alternative cut!
