Question sir , I have 2004 that is not moving in any gear . It just revs up. Then I put diff lock on and it moved no problem but of course its low gear only. What might cause this to only drive or reverse with my diff locked ? Any ways to rule out certain components? I hope its axle and not diff or transfer case problem. Any thought is appreciated!! Thanks ...

Actually open differentials will always split torque 50/50%. Even if only one wheel is spinning. What actually happens is the engine is only making enough torque to spin one wheel. And because the spin wheel has very little friction it only takes a very little anount of torque to spin. So the wheel with traction isnt getting enough torque to move the vehicle forward. By braking the spinning wheel your increasing the friction, so both wheels receive more torque.

Although the truck is very capable off-road, watch out for the tires. Those rubber-band performance street tires are extremely vulnerable to any kind of sharp rocks, and if you have to rely on the inflatable space-saver donut spare, you're screwed. don't even think about taking the truck on any sort of Death Valley or Mojave Road expedition without addressing the tire situation first - including the acquisition (and storage) of a matching spare.

+andy92782 for sure. My car is too pretty to do any serious off-roading anyway. I just love the on and off road performance. It's a bit of a compromise off-road, but good enough especially given the on-road performance. I test drove a Jeep Wrangler. While it's a beast off-road, it is quite terrible in normal driving.

Thanks for the great video ^_^ I'm in love with the old generation of the Cayenne especially 2008 and 2009 and how it's aggressive & muscular look in my opinion way better than the new gen. froggy look (big disappointment for me back in 2011). I'm in love for 10 years now and I can't forget it cuz back in the years it's very expensive , so I'm planning to get 08 or 09 but My question is do recommend the Cayenne s or turbo? Even i heard that the Turbo has more problems & less reliable than the S, but My heart goes for the Turbo how it performs and how the face lift more aggressive than the S model.

Another life I have a 06 S... I love this Cayenne!!! I love the first gen, I’ve worked out its kinks, and other than that, it’s been a very reliable car. About once a year, I have something to address, starter one year, driveshaft another, this year I’m needing to address doing a trans flush, and a couple of $25 sway bar links.. I’m not counting the tires or brakes, that’s just normal car maintenance.. I purposely avoided the turbo. I’ve got loads of speed, it hauls enormous loads.. My suggestion to anyone about to buy a Cayenne is to find one with the factory installed tow package.. Or if you instal an aftermarket later, it will only tow about half of the Porsche installed one.. A thing to consider, it seriously drinks a lot of fuel, I accept that, because I see it as a trade off, minimal amount of repairs, to an expensive to keep, gas in the tank addiction.. I love my Cayenne S!!

The rear locker only came on certain 955 models with the off road package, which also included electronic disconnecting sway bars. It's very rare. The toggle switch is black and there's a bottom with a car at an angle. I don't believe it was available on any 957 models. The 957 with PDCC, silver bottoms, simulated disconnecting sway bars. In general, the AWD system, even on a base model, is very good. It will lock any spinning wheels and can send up to 100 percent of the torque to a single wheel.

I know most people say it looks weird, but if I cared about my looks I would comb my hair! Lol. I like to autocross and rock crawl but can’t afford to have a Cayman S, Wrangler Rubicon and a family car. I know the Cayenne won’t do well in any, but it will be fun to try! I’m looking at any 2008-2010 Cayenne with PDCC, but so far I only see a few Turbos. Do you think a Transsyberia with no PDCC will off-road as well as a Turbo with PDDC if they both had the same 18” all terrain tires? I’ve been watching tons of reviews and yours is very informative. Thank you!!

  • @dufonrafal

It is as capable. For the first gear, well it depends: 1- if you're talking about the V6, it might lack some low end torque, but not the V8 2- the 8 speeds transmission has a very short 1st gear (it actually start in 2nd gear on road) 3- it's a torque converter, so you can slip the transmission all you want. The main reason for very short 1st gear off road, is so you don't have to slip the clutch when going very slowly. With a torque converter, that's not an issue. To go off road with the 2011 Cayenne, I would recommend: 1- 18" wheels with A/T tires 2- air suspension to lift it 3- PDCC so you can disconnect the sway bar and have more wheel travel 4- PTV+ so you can lock the rear dif 5- off road package for additional protections and tow hook A V8 model (petrol or diesel) would be better for it's additional low-end torque.

Yes the clearance and differentials make it sturdy off road. But it simply wasn’t built for off roading. You will destroy the sides and underbelly in rock crawling, not to mention anything on a Porsche is 2x as much to fix as 4wd off road truck or jeep. Pretty cool features though.

@@CarFanatic True, but that's only because Wrangler is the only truck left with 2 solid axles that isn't a HD pickup. I think realistically it's a better cross-comparison too--people who are shopping for a Wrangler only have 1 option. If you're looking at a Cayenne you're probably also considering a GX or RX, plus whatever the equivalents are from other brands. Even the 4Runner/GX isn't a perfect comparison because it has a solid axle in the back vs the Cayenne is independent all around (right?). The low range case definitely separates it from a lot of the other similar SUVs (it is unibody, right?). Did you look at any base or S models or did you specifically want the Turbo? Just curious as someone local to me is selling an 04 S with 156k miles for a fair price and based on the family I'm assuming it's had good maintenance... tempting as I don't use my 4Runner enough and with the prices of 4x4s today I'd probably make some money.

I wouldn't take the Cayenne to the Rubicon trail because I wouldn't want to mess my car up. I don't think most owners of a new Rubicon, $50k+, rig would. But keep in mind that the Wrangler isn't without it's compromises either. Have you driven one on the highway? It drives like crap and is borderline unsafe in emergency maneuvers and that's no exaggeration. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just saying the cars are built for different purposes. Yeah. Nobody will beat their Cayenne like they do with the Jeep. It's not a SUV, it's just a crossover with little bit of off-roading gear.

    1. Wrangler Rubicon is obviously a better offroad vehicle. Thats not the point. 2. center locking is a "locker." It forces 50% of the power to go to each axle. 3. Air suspension is better. Do your research. It is, in fact, more reliable, just more difficult to fix (that's what bump stops are for). 4. Only true if your engineer is a 5 year old with toothpicks. Monocoque can be just as strong if engineered properly. 5. jeeps are weak AF. German, even british, cars will always be more reliable. 6. 4:1 tcase is only good for rock crawling. It sucks for expeditions. You can travel much faster with a less aggressive crawl ratio.

Lol fucking bullshit, you didn't even take it offroad, you just drove over some sand and gravel and looked t some numbers. I can promise you that thing won't even come close to a Jeep, and this is from a Patrol guy, thanks for the laughs at least

+Perkins trails don't always show up the same on camera. I can assure you it was more than just pebbles. You're also ignoring the context here which is the Cayenne's off-road capabilities in relation to it's on-road performance. I clearly mentioned that a Jeep is much more capable. I welcome all feedback and discussions, so keep them coming.

When you give so much information, you have to remember that you aren't speaking to yourself and enunciate better. You swallow half the words trying to cram too many. One should NOT have to make an effort to understand what you're saying.

Paul, you could try playing the video at a reduced playback speed.
