Is a MK6 GTI reliable?!? Can you make it reliable?!?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Granted I haven’t had this car long but in my opinion and in many others the MK6 gti is a fun reliable daily driver as long as you keep up on maintenance, but, that can be said about any car. So today I give my thought on how and what to do to make a MK6 as reliable as possible!

I’ve been loving my MK6 GTI I can’t complain!
I just passed 100K miles on my mk6 GTI manual. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I keep it well maintained and add a fuel cleaning to each first tank of gas per month. I have no complaints. This is a great car and very fun to drive.

Do you run 91 octane?

@@mikeh.9954 I've been giving it premium since the day purchased. I think the fuel system cleaner into every first tank of the month was the smartest thing I could have done. Oil changes around 7k.

@@bettersteps Right on. Thx for the info. We bought a 2011 GTI for our son, who turns 16 in Dec. It has 120,000. I figured 91 octane was the way to go. I wondered about the oil changes as well. We live in a town where there isn't a VW dealer. We do have a shop that works on the VW. Audi, BMW lines. Do you do the oil changes yourself, have an express place do it, or take it to the dealer?

@@mikeh.9954 I've taken it to the dealer for everything.
Ive had my mk6 for a little over 5 years. Got it at 53,xxx its now at 141,xxx. Full bolt on car running a cobb stage 2 tune. not a single. Keep up on the preventative maint, and youll be trouble free!
Great video! Good basic info about the engine…I have a 2012 MK6 I bought in 2018…I have 155,000 on it now…zero maintenance!! Just standard oil changes…new tires…and one time a rock cracked my windshield…I replaced the windshield…it’s running so good I don’t want to bring it in for the valve cleaning and timing chain tensioner…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it !! Love GTIs even if it did have a lot of problems I get them fixed! No other car has the same driving feel as VW GTI !!

If your GTI is from 2012, you might have the updated version of the timing chain tensioner that is not known to fail like the ones in the 2010 and 2011 Mk6 GTIs. Worth a check sometime, though. A valve cleaning never hurts, but you could technically wait until the carbon causes misfires before getting it done.
You already know I'm liking it son

I appreciate it!
I’ve had several and I mean several of these engines in many different vw models over the years and in my experience regular maintenance oil changes and only using OEM replacement parts they will last, they can be expensive if not well maintained but you get what you pay for don’t believe the hype vw are awesome vehicles good luck 💯
Not enough volkswagen on KZread, do it
Don't believe the hype!? Attempt to sell it online or a trade-in, is almost an insult the depreciation value. Check junkyards, flooded with them. This is a mechanic's flipping car, buy them cheap and fix for a quick buck. Naptown tuner will open your eyes what you getting into.
Nope mine a pile.. always in the workshop.. always something going wrong 😕

Yea.. I hear that..😐
If you stay on top of your maintenance it will be forever reliable
You should make a video of the Hyundai race car lol

It’s next 😂
The TSI engine is garbage with many issues and expensive to fix. Get rid of it before you enter the money pit. Look up oil consumption issues of this engine. They have poorly designed piston oil rings that clog easily and cause excessive oil burning and carbon build up. Only way to fix it is to replaced pistons, rods and rings. New design fixes the issue. Should have been designed properly in the first place. Keep the Subaru and piss the GTI off.

I agree with you
I have this exact model. That engine is one of worst engines that VW made. Issues with misfires, engine oil consumption..,, carbon buildup…. No way !!
Mk 7.5 is much more reliable gti
