Is it good for web development?

Oh the unibody macbook pros, one of my favorites, especially with the 15 inch mbps. The 15 inch especially since it has a better dGPU and Quad core i7 CPUs. The unibody lineup of macbooks in general, especially the 2012, has held up very well over the years. Still goes strong on Monterey. With the 15 inch 2012 mbp, it can have the better antiglare higher resolution screen which looks gorgeous in my opinion. The 2012 unibody is my favorite macbook of all time as you can have 2 SSDs (if you replace the dvd drive with a ssd caddy) and you can also upgrade the ram. Both the 13 inch and 15 inch macbook pros are still capable machines even to this day.

Brother!! 💥 I couldn't agree more with every single point you just made! 💯 You know this computer well my friend. 🙏 Truly.. I remember just the 2012 you're mentioning with the capability for secondary SSD/HDD slot tray. The same client of mine who had that exact computer had a 17" version which was close to that same year if not a few years newer and his was the last year they made that 17" unibody ever and it was i7. I've had a lot of experience with repairing and upgrading these computers over the years long before my channel videos. I remember one time running Windows PE off a USB in UEFI and it would boot up like a dream on those unibody Mac's smooth and stable with no drives installed even. Beautiful computers in human history. Their like old cars that are still on the road. Still kicking and kicking well. 💯 70% of all repair scenarios with the 2006-2013's was new hard drive ribbon cable and it would like like new glitch free after that. ⚡

These are iconic Macbook’s. I have 13 and 15 inch Unibody 2012 Macbook Pros I am running Ventura. They are great fun and very well built a joy to use.

i,m thinking of buying one of these to use with Reaper a Studio DAW. and possible photoshop work. any idea if this will be a good option for serious musical and artist work? thanks in advance.

I use it with my firewire interface usb hub mini display port studio monitors

i wanna ask.. battry timing? backup and can it run high ides for example vs studio and other?

I have this and I use it everyday hard use I love this macbook

I have a 2012 13 inch MacBook Pro from the recycle center and it came with a 2.5 GHz i5 and 8 GB of RAM and a 5400 RPM 500 GB HDD. I ditched the 5400 RPM HDD and replaced it with a 256 GB SSD from microcenter and wow it's a fast laptop even for todays standards. Still beats a brand new chromebook you can buy from walmart, and the best part is that you can have macOS. The fact I was able to get this laptop for free is amazing!

My sister uses a 2013 Macbook pro

I guess it is still good cause I am watching your video on the same MacBook Pro of yours (2,5Ghz i5, 16Go ram, 250Go ssd for the OS and apps, 2To HDD 5400). No more backlight on the integrated screen, as there is no Mac repair shop in my place, I am using a 24" external monitor. I am running High Sierra and since few weeks I am experiencing some slowness should I upgrade at least to Catalina or go for a patched newer OS, what do you think ?

Excellent! If SSD go OCLP forsure. I’ve got a video coming soon. OCLP is more stable than ever and it just keeps getting better. Try Ventura first and if not super stable then try OCLP Monterey. Make sure you install the post install patches for both. Monterey may be the better choice end of day for your 2012 tho. Hope this helps my friend. 🙏

I bought this in Craigslist for $120. I upgraded the HDD to a 256GB SSD (then to a 1TB), the memory to 16GB & the OS to Ventura via OCLP. It works fantastic! The only downside is the bluetooth is a little laggy

Quick question I have a mid 2012 15 inch I have monterey. And the Stickers Emojis looks pixelated. Is that normal? Or is something I should do to fix that?

Did you install all your post install root patches after setup? That would be my first guess. Another option would be the newest OCLP with Ventura or even Sonoma maybe? Hope this helps my friend 🙏

Battery life was surprisingly good and still working well. Screen brightness does significantly affect the battery life on these computers tho. A new battery for this computer is also relatively cheap in price these days on Amazon. Just make sure the battery manufacturer states that they are using AAA cells and it will be good. 💯

I have a MacBook Pro 2012 but the MacOS I erased it and wanted to change MacOS High Sierra but all the videos I watched on KZread about how to format it is not working for me on the MacBook 💻. Can you help me please 🙏

Do you have a way to instal EL Capitan on the computer? You will need a working OS installed in order to use OCLP to create the install ley for Monterey or Ventura.

I would aim for something newer just to be safe my friend especially with iOS development. If you end up getting it then I’d recommend a Samsung SSD and the right Samsung RAM from eBay. Most compatible with the 2012 MBP in my experience.

Should be ok but you may need a stronger PC just to be safe but for the most part it should work nicely. 💯

What SSD are you using and what version of OCLP do you have installed? Also did you install the post root patches using OCLP after the installation was complete?

In my experience with OCLP, slow boot time is one of the trade offs for being able to run the newest macOS on an unsupported machine. I've done about 30 computers using OCLP as this point and it's like that with every single one. Slower than supported OS boot time but other than that stable and usable. 🙏 OCLP is getting better and better tho so I'm sure in time, they will fix the slow boot time. 🤞

I just did the same, upgrading to 16GB ram and a 500GB SSD, the cheapest I could find on ‘Zon. Total cost was $50 - it was the same price for 2 8Gb as 2 4GB. The only thing is that I’ve found Ventura doesn’t always like to play nice with Windows - the real purpose of buying it - but no problem with Monterey. Cinebench score was pretty bad - 1313 - but who cares, I mainly need it to do stuff on Windows, which it does fine, and writing reports and the web.

can you please suggest between 2012 Macbook pro i7 vs 2017 Macbook Air i5?

You will be fine but will need to use an older version. If editing and rendering 4K you may need a stronger computer my friend. 🙏

Can I use DDR3L instead of a DDR3 RAM?

It's 1.5v so it should but on the 2012 1600 will likely downclock to 1333MHz if I am remembering the models based on year correctly.
