    @@vitalizu1 I think this hits especially hard since the the 4090 and to a lesser extend the 4080 show us that the 4000 series can provide pretty fantastic generational performance gains. If the entire generation was a bit of a dud like the 2000 series it'd be one thing, but this way NVIDIA just seems insane. @@AJ-po6up I'm thinking along the same lines. Reviewers that I thought of as reputable (and even criticized nvidias other models/pricing) now sing their praises; or in LTT's case: trying to look neutral whilst not being anything of the sort. Have all of these people (who once were where we are; just a lot less screwed) forgotten that they are effectively the voice of the consumer? Nothing is going to get better if they continue "shilling", as you put it. We (aware) consumers are sure as hell not going to be heard, and the average shopper will just buy whatever these ("bad") reviewers say is good, and the 4070 (that in reality is a _true_ 4060) ain't it. But they won't know because of the above. It sure as hell doesn't do my depression any favors seeing this, especially as I was dead certain that everyone would smash this launch and point to the equally priced (new) better 6950XT or cheaper (equal) 6800XT, both with more VRAM. But no. Guess I know how few that are really on our side now, though. Thanks, Paul (& GN)!

All I've got to say is if the industry wants to push 1080p users to 1440p and eventually 4k, the prices on monitors and GPUs at the moment for a well-rounded experience have to change. As many others pointed out, comparing the price to performance ratio of previous gen cards has been very informative and nice addition. One thing to note though, as other tech YT channels also mentioned the power consumption of the cards. In that regard, 4070 has been much more power efficient than 3080 while beating or getting the same results, consuming almost twice as less power. Der8auer suggested it is better to go with 4070 over 3080 when one purely considering team green GPUs even it costs little more as efficiency may pay off in the long run. Especially for EU customers.

    To your closing thoughts, its very easy to sumerise, this card is the 4060ti, the size, the specs, even the gpu code lines up with the 60 class. The mid range buyers got screwed when Nvidia moved the 4080 12 GB to the 70 class. The 70 class coolers were always as big as the 80 class coolers as the dies share much of the same architecture, and this card is way to efficient to be a 70 class. But we are missing the true 4070 in the line up, maybe they will release a 4075 like the 275 naming?

    Would have been even better had he also included die sizes. Not only have the 70 series GPU’s been getting much more expensive over time, they’re also being made with far smaller die sizes - meaning nVidia is getting WAAAAY more GPU’s per wafer from TAMC than they ever have before. Their revenue per wafer is up almost 100% compared to the 30 series, and we’re seeing the effect on nVidia’s gross profit margins. Even without crazy crypto pricing, gross margins are now well north of 60%, meaning that every $500 of revenue actually costs them less than $200 in production costs.

    @@ChildOfTheWilderness The problem is the amount of RAM will age woefully worse than the compute performance. The PS4 had modern APU performance and 8 GB RAM. As you increase compute performance, RAM must increase along with it in order not to hamstring game performance. RAM requirements in games are increasing, particularly as more are developed for the PS5 first, a console which costs $399 and has 16 GB. The problem is they’re charging you $600, which is much more than even high end graphics cards used to cost, and knowingly hamstringing the card for 4K today and 1440p tomorrow, even though the compute performance it offers could last much longer. It’s too expensive, and it’s not a balanced product. The rx 6800 has 16 GB RAM for $470 and maintains better image quality and performance today in 4K as a result when compared to the 3070 which had this same problem. With the 4070, you simply aren’t getting the best experience $600 could give you because Nvidia is choosing to hold back, and we’re sick of it. You argue that $600 is not a premium price for a GPU, and I honestly think Nvidia has brainwashed you if you believe that. One decade ago, $600 for a mid-range card with entry level RAM would have been unthinkable.

  • @hsanrb

    @hsanrb

    the TLDR beginner explanation is that regardless how much video card you throw at it, the CPU is holding the GPU back from drawing more frames. It could be the CPU, or it could be the game engine is incapable of running at high frame rates. As you go from 1080p or 1440p to 4k, the GPU has to do more lifting because there are more pixels to compute, draw, and display on your monitor. You know games are reaching "CPU bound" state when all the graphics cards kinda just stop at X FPS on the chart (ex Farcry 6, 4k the avg is 128 to 70ish, you go to the 1080p chart and nearly half the video cards are within like 3-5fps) It is a way to advise consumers to not overpay on something like a 4090 if you only play 1080p when other GPU's can achieve similar results for a more reasonable price.

  • @T.K.9

    @T.K.9

    Жыл бұрын

    at 1080p gaming, your highest FPS is directly influenced by how fast your CPU is. No matter how fast your GPU is, if your CPU is slow your 1080p resolution performance will be bad. quote:"Because at a lower resolution you will likely get more FPS and as you get more FPS, the CPU needs to process the frames and more information, throwing the bottleneck towards the CPU." This basically means that at 1080p The GPU can easily make so much FRAMES per second. But the CPU can only do so much. So the faster your CPU is, the higher the FPS. But in the end you are still CPU bottleneck. Meanwhile at 1440p and 4K, CPU speed does not matter. So you can pair say a 5600X with a 3080 or 3090 and you are fine as now all the Work load is being carried by the GPU. the faster the GPU at 2k or 4k gaming = more FPS. CPU speed does not matter as much. Because you do not make as much frames because of the higher resolution so the CPU is not over worked at that stage. At this stage the GPU is the one being overworked trying to make 2k or 4K Frames. considerably lesser frames than 1080p Frames = which means less work load for CPU which makes cpu speed irrelevant. Does not mean that you need to get the slowest cpu. You still need to get a decent cheap cpu such as the Ryzen 5600X. Long Story short, your PC build will always depend on what Monitor resolution you are playing at. i.e. Right now I am playing at 1440p or 4K on an OLED 48inch LG monitor so naturally I play on a 5600X + RTX 3080 10GB. My brother plays on a 27 inch 1080p and he literally only has a ryzen 3600, and an RX580 (which is a good cheap 1080p Card). My older brother plays a 1440p and he has a 5600X with an RTX 3060 Ti (basically a 5-7% slower cut down RTX 3070)
