Ironrite Model 85 Ironer Mangle Repair - Roll won't move, replace power cord, change oil
Фильм және анимация
I got the Ironrite Model 85 ironer working last night, so I did a video to document the work done. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone trying to get one of these machines working. If the power cord is still the original it will need to be replaced for the sake of safety and reliable operation. If the roll won't go up and down and won't rotate, the clutch keys in the gearbox are probably stuck and need to be freed up. Oil changes need to be done every few years of active use, and if the machine has been idle for years, the oil definitely needs to be changed. This video covers all of these procedures.
I'm not an expert on this so I am sure I got some of the terminology wrong. I know I said "heel" a couple of times instead of "shoe" so my apologies.
Here are some really helpful resources:
Lindy Hop's Ironrite Page - great information and Lindy will email you the operation and service manuals on request: www.jitterbuzz.com/the_ironrit...
Mister Mangle's Repair Tips - covers some of the possible failures not in this video. Original page is gone so here's the Wayback version: web.archive.org/web/201803182...

6/26/24 9:37 PM Central time. Thanks so much the the video. I inherited my mom's old ironer that has stuck keys. Your video was perfect for my son to figure out what needed to be released. Hers was a few years older and in a Mahogany cabinet. The inside looked the same. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial. This is so helpful! I now have the courage to do this.
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together! Every time I use my Ironrite, I think about rewiring it and changing the oil. Your video is very helpful.
Thank you for your technical support. I got an ironrite for my birthday boy are this machines heavy! Mine needed a deep clean and I been doing the restoration. I changed the cord with my husband. The heating element good, the turning iron good. Now I’m getting to do your advice with the gears since they are not working. Seven months into the project and wow! Hoping to get the jam fix. My husband thinks I’m insane to be so interested in this project. Thank you
Thank you so much for making this video! I bought my iron-rite about 1 month ago it's in great condition but the knee pads didn't work. It is because of your great video it is now up and running. Mine is the 85 model looking forward to doing a lot more with it. Thanks again from Idaho.
Videos of these are hard to find. My Grandmother had one. Unfortunatly I old enough to rember it but too young to remeber it that well. I do remeber the sound of that motor.
I was so happy to find your video! I was able to buy an Ironrite 95 at an estate sale a couple years ago. I had been looking for one in good condition for a long time. I've had to really search long and hard for any information for the maintenance of this unit. I LOVE this thing and iron everything with it, including sheets and towels. Thank you for such valuable information on a vintage piece of equipment!
Hello-thank you, this is very helpful. May I ask if you have any recommendation for replacing a castor or all-one is broken on mine.
How much does it weigh? I'm looking at buying one and the seller is saying it needs freight shipping for 200lbs, at a cost of $500+.
How can I find someone to repair them?
