I watched this fight with my uncles when I was 10 and not only is it still the greatest heavyweight fight of the last 30 years but in 1996 this actually meant something. For weeks and months after this fight it shook the sports world. Anyone else wish the heavyweight division was like this again!?

Holyfield came in to this fight after losing to Bowe and being diagnosed with Hepatitis and a heart condition! He then produced the best performance of his career. Holyfield was way past his prime of 1992/93. He was the older fighter aswell but he was the superior boxer, with the harder chin and bigger heart.

I'm in awe -- true athletes fighting like grizzly bears -- elegant and freakishly powerful. How can people take hits like that and respond with such grace. Both of these men are warrior artists....but Holyfield deserved that win. Amazing match

OokTiaopi I'v watched Tyson fights even further back on live TV in the UK when he was upcoming. I was a kid, and my dad let me watch his fights with him. Looking back they were great times. Sad to hear about you're father, which should make me go and see mine after one and a half years.

Yeah but come on, Tyson was also out of his prime and out of 3 years in jail. As usual when it comes to these type match ups, no one will ever really know, it’s all speculation because it’s not prime versus prime. However the most impressive thing I saw was Holyfield wasn’t EVEN scared, he was like “Tyson who?”

Holyfield roided? The report I saw was that Tyson would not fight unless Evander had a clean steroid screen, which he did and wasn't required to. Evander did not take steroids during that fight. I am not sure about any other fights, but this was well documented that he didn't take anything like that. Also it's been known for years that steroids does not help you in boxing, which I have heard from many fighters.

Going back and watching the highlights of those first few rounds, it's amazing how many clean shots he took from Mike and just kept coming. Considering that so much of his competition had wilted from just the aura Mike brought to the ring, it had to be demoralizing to see Holyfield take his best stuff, only to return fire. Wow, what a fight.

@@mattiaderiu2028 Holyfield had already faced boxers such as George Foreman and Riddick Bowe x3! These were brutal fights, while Mike was mostly facing useless bums. But even though surviving these fights took a toll on Evander, he was able to destroy a way younger Tyson at almost 35 years of age. Tyson lost vs every big opponent he faced in his career, and vs bums too (Buster Douglas)

As good as Holyfield looks here, you can still see an obvious decline from the guy who fought Bowe, which makes this even more amazing. So much of this win was on sheer will as much as a well-executed, well-crafted gameplan.

He's one of the greatest 'characters' in the sport but he simply can't be one of the greats as a fighter fella. He never showed he could overcome adversity, he lost whenever he was tested and in his era Holyfield and Lewis faced and beat far better competition.

Holyfield came in to this fight after losing to Bowe and being diagnosed with Hepatitis and a heart condition! He then produced the best performance of his career. Holyfield was way past his prime of 1992/93. He was the older fighter aswell but he was the superior boxer, with the harder chin and bigger heart.

OokTiaopi I'v watched Tyson fights even further back on live TV in the UK when he was upcoming. I was a kid, and my dad let me watch his fights with him. Looking back they were great times. Sad to hear about you're father, which should make me go and see mine after one and a half years.

Most underrated boxer ever, I am a Tyson fan but what Holyfield did was incredible. Comeback from several defeats to reclaim his titles again and again and again. His career is much more brilliant than Tyson's one

Yeah but come on, Tyson was also out of his prime and out of 3 years in jail. As usual when it comes to these type match ups, no one will ever really know, it’s all speculation because it’s not prime versus prime. However the most impressive thing I saw was Holyfield wasn’t EVEN scared, he was like “Tyson who?”

Holyfield roided? The report I saw was that Tyson would not fight unless Evander had a clean steroid screen, which he did and wasn't required to. Evander did not take steroids during that fight. I am not sure about any other fights, but this was well documented that he didn't take anything like that. Also it's been known for years that steroids does not help you in boxing, which I have heard from many fighters.

Props to Holyfield for such a spectacular performance, and mad respect to Tyson for not going down even after all those clean shots he ate in the last rounds. He really earned his name 'Iron Mike Tyson'

Going back and watching the highlights of those first few rounds, it's amazing how many clean shots he took from Mike and just kept coming. Considering that so much of his competition had wilted from just the aura Mike brought to the ring, it had to be demoralizing to see Holyfield take his best stuff, only to return fire. Wow, what a fight.

@@mattiaderiu2028 Holyfield had already faced boxers such as George Foreman and Riddick Bowe x3! These were brutal fights, while Mike was mostly facing useless bums. But even though surviving these fights took a toll on Evander, he was able to destroy a way younger Tyson at almost 35 years of age. Tyson lost vs every big opponent he faced in his career, and vs bums too (Buster Douglas)
Both are great fighters however Holyfield is a definition of a man someone who is not afraid to go against another man no matter tough the other is

As good as Holyfield looks here, you can still see an obvious decline from the guy who fought Bowe, which makes this even more amazing. So much of this win was on sheer will as much as a well-executed, well-crafted gameplan.

He's one of the greatest 'characters' in the sport but he simply can't be one of the greats as a fighter fella. He never showed he could overcome adversity, he lost whenever he was tested and in his era Holyfield and Lewis faced and beat far better competition.

Holyfiled makes me think of joe Frazier a determination at all proof and both manage to endure the blows
I watched this fight back in 1996 and now in 2021 25 years later I'm Still enjoyed watching it as if it was yesterday 😊
Holyfield was really head butting and hitting below the belt, but he’s such a nice guy outside the ring people never believed he’d be a dirty fighter.. Great fighter, but a very sneaky head butter.

This has got to be one of the best fights.
Holyfield is a great fighter, no question. But there's also no question Tyson was not at his prime in this fight. Tyson's superb footwork and speed simply didn't come through that night. Congrats to Holyfield, but Tyson is a fuckin' legend 👊

You must watch this ON YOUR FEET, two true warriors, body and soul.
As a Tyson fan, I was a little nervous to rewatch this. But while he wasn't in peak form, he still fought bravely and showed some skills still. Holyfield was just unstoppable. O

Holyfield was in his "zone" to be sure! Such a truly great fight by two great champions!
I think Tyson was too heavy in this era and that hurt him. Along with not having Rooney back as his coach. He still had speed and power just not the same conditioning and that old peek a boo technique like the 80's.

Mike was was not mike..if Mike was mike who moved side to side up and diwn like cuss taught him..he would have never lost a fight..ever..mike had the wrong people in his corner he lost his fire..he was doing drugs..having sex with everything that walked..mike was just a name and a bomb at this point..he had lost what made him special..his defence and counter punching...😒😒😒

As a 18 year old I always looked up to the old skool there would never be any boxers like this they were built different back then
I'm not a Tyson fan but boy did he take sum shots. Holyfield scared of no one and a great warrior
Some vicious headbutts from Holyfield but the overall feeling is that he had more fire than Tyson that night.

@@Mungojerry310 No one had a bigger heart than EH and he was great, steroids or not. Same with Barry Bonds- The roids helped already great athletes just be that much better. Ever watch EH's fights with Braxton and Cooper? Tyson would have beat EH if they fought when Tyson was in his prime, but Tyson was 30 in this fight and not as in shape or dedicated.
Holyfield is a warrior and stood up to Tyson. No fear.

Doesnt feel like anything. When youre concussed on the head you dont feel much of anything because your nerves are going bonkers. However you do feel sharp punches, very annoying its like being pelted with small rocks.
