Seriously cool box set, Mikko. I've never followed this band but I'm still very impressed. It's such a shame that someone can't figure out a way to make picture discs sound as good as standard vinyl (non-picture disc) pressings. Still very cool. If I was as big a Maiden fan as you, I would certainly want one too!

Man I've been on the fence on these Maiden picture discs and almost bought some a couple of different times but I'm so leery of picture discs that I haven't and your video confirms that decision. Yes, records are made for listening to the music. If you want to get Maiden on vinyl, I really recommend you to find the original UK or US pressings on black vinyl.

I like how you compared the originals to this box set, the only one I own so far is Killers. If I need to pick up the original pressings first and maybe in the future pick up this set, we should keep bugging Maiden so they can release their catalog on 180g black vinyl. Great video Mikko!

Thanks for watching, Rob! Piece of Mind cover is glossier indeed, but the picture quality is not so good. Let alone the sound quality. I think the original UK pressing of Piece of Mind is the best sounding Iron Maiden album I've ever heard.

Hi Mikko I bought "Number Of The Best" yesterday...I was weak, and couldn't resist :).. But, I was surprised how loud the swooshing sound is. I will not be getting any more of these picture discs. Thats for sure.

very nice review. I think in hindsight as you seem like a huge Maiden fan you will enjoy these for the imagery. I think the discs themselves are very cool. I only own one picture disc and I just got it. But seeing the art put a BIG smile on my face and I want to get a few more of these (already ordered Maiden England and Live After Death) You seem to already have the records (on black vinyl) so unless you only wanted to sell them I think opening them and enjoy the art was worth it!

I have tried to find any info on these picture discs and it's pretty hard to find anything solid. About all I can find is the fist album is pretty decent, the rest sound like crap. I need the first one so I may take a chance and grab it. Nice video bro.

Good info Mikko. I have this set and its a let down sound wise, but I do like the packaging and artwork. I would say sound wise, the debut sounded the best.

I agree with your comments about Somewhere in time cover, the original press is better. I´ve seen the video when you showed the Katatonia collection, a priceless treasure. Greetings from Mexico City. UP THE IRONS!!

Everyone (myself included) was so excited about them. I have 2 copies of ea original (up through 7th Son) and also Final Frontier and agree, the black vinyl always sounds best. I have the original UK pressings of the first seven albums and the original US pressing of the SSoaSS and they sound very good, especially the sound quality Piece of Mind is absolutely fantastic! This box set was good as an investment. But I can't help myself thinking that I would have got Brave New World and couple of other Maiden rarities I'm missing on vinyl with the same money. Unfortunately they are picture discs too, but I suppose they would have made me a lot happier. :D

Yes. It's removable, just like the OBI strips on many Japanese pressings.

I've listened to only the debut, Killers and Somewhere In Time from this box set. You're right that the debut sounded the best out of these three. And it was horrible! :D

I've heard that The Final Frontier would be the best one out of the new Maiden releases, but I haven't listened to it yet. I'll have to try it and A Matter of Life and Death too some day. I have also their latest live album En Vivo! on vinyl and the picture disc sounds horrible. Now I've been enjoying The First Ten Years box set and they sound absolutely amazing!

LOL, Mikko you kill me. Your video really got me in the mood to hear some maiden, so I'm spinning Somewhere in Time right now, original 1st US press. This album sounds great on vinyl. Regarding the box set, it's unfortunate, but I really don't mind as I have great copies of the originals on vinyl and all my original press Canadian CDs. Is it true that A Matter of Life and Death sounds the best on vinyl out of the new releases? I'd love to find that on vinyl. Enjoy your weekend Mikko. Geoff

ah sorry the first picture disc I got was Iron Maiden En Vivo....which sounded decent (although the opening music was super muddy) once the record kicked in, it wasn't horrible....I'd even say it sounded average...I'll probably get the blueray or DVD so I am not so worried about the record being my only version.

I bought Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son picture discs but I've decided not to play them. I've since read that they aren't even good to play anyway so that makes my decision firmer: why use a brand new vinyl if the quality isn't gonna be up to scratch? :/

vladlashing picture discs are for collecting. Buy the regular vinyls if you want to play them. It's a collector thing
