Iron Maiden "Fear of the Dark" REACTION & ANALYSIS by Vocal Coach / Opera Singer
It's been a while since we've done some Iron Maiden on this channel, so it's time to bring Bruce Dickinson back for more analysis. I asked our Patrons what song should be next up, and they all voted for "Fear of the Dark." I think I'm ready for more #horsestance!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Iron Maiden performing "Fear of the Dark” live on the Death On The Road tour. (Yes, I know Flight 666 has better quality and energy, but the vocals are difficult to analyze. I tested a few seconds before I filmed, and we decided on this version. I review the Flight 666 version BEFORE my outro, so will still see it!)

@@brianeleighton dude, who cares. I never watch these retard "react" videos because they are stupid, and this one just confirmed it. I like Bruce's voice and maybe just because of that I got a little curious and watched this one a bit and got annoyed. I don't like all the fake over reacting. No one does this hysteria watching music videos alone or even with friends in a normal situation. But then there is the "react" videos of these people crazy for attention making stupid faces, eyes and mouths in front of the camera. I was born in 1981 and thanks to my uncle I began to listen to Heavy Metal since I was in my crib. My first memory comes with "Bark at the moon", obviously I listened to it years after the release, but I was 4 years old. Then, during my kindergarten years I discovered Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and many more cool bands. If there is a band who joins me with my uncle (he was like a dad for me), it's Iron Maiden. Sometimes I listened to albums of the 80's... Powerslave, Piece of mind, The seventh son of the seventh son... The whole decade and it's magic and I shall accept it, I cry... I thank to my uncle, whenever he is. I miss him. I had so much anxiety and depression at the time , and the only band that helped relax me was Primal Fear. Their greatest hits double album Best Of The Fear worked big time.
One thing you have to remember about Iron Maiden, Elizabeth, is that they don't play TO an audience, they play WITH the audience. I've seen them twice and one of the best things about them is you can tell that they are having fun and absolutely just love what they are doing
I do love how Bruce can be like, confidently off-pitch. The "imperfection" is expression, and that makes it more vibrant and interesting.
At the end of the documentary "Global Metal", we end up at the first ever Iron Maiden concert in India, and the band opens up with Fear of the Dark. The audience all sings along flawlessly, because Iron Maiden fans are Iron Maiden fans, the world over. And Bruce gets a big grin on his face, like he's just been introduced to long lost family members. I do hope you get a chance to chat over tea with Bruce - he's a sweet, thoughtful guy who really does love his audiences.

My "fear of the dark" is that my stepdad was trying to help me overcome the fear of the dark when I was 10 or 11 years old. He said, and I will quote, "You aren't afraid of the dark, you're afraid of what it hides." That was the whole pep talk to me at 10 or 11 years old. Not a word after it. I then asked what hides in the dark. His reply: "You never know." That terrified me for another couple of decades. I'd still be afraid that HE was going to be what was hiding in the dark were it not for his death a couple of decades back.

I was afraid of the dark for much longer than "normal" kids would usually be...at times I've attributed this to watching too many of the "wrong" movies growing up (which are great films that I love now, like Alien and The Thing), but yeah, it was more of a fear of the "unseen" than being creeped out by ghosts and monsters. For me the real shift for getting over that was studying the martial arts...once I reached a certain level of proficiency the unknown just became a lot less scary.
I am a metal head since I was 14, now I am 40 years old. We "The Metalheads" were some weird kids in black with long hair.. It is very exiting to see that over the last 4-5 years I see "normal" people are enjoying the songs I love! I think the value of metal music has increased much more with youtube.

I have been to 8 different Iron Maiden concerts over the years. They never change, their stage presence is #1, their songs are always top quality (so many many good songs i can't name them all), Eddie (you must see Eddie), they are my #1 band. Bruce cannot hit the super high notes anymore but he still has the stage presence and plays the crowd to this day. You cannot mention metal gods without mentioning Iron Maiden.
Iron maiden was the first group I saw live in 1990. 31 years later and having seen them 30 times in concert, I still enjoy each time as that teenager at his first concert.
Regarding Bruce's endurance, in preparation before every tour, Bruce will put on roller skates and sing the entire concert setlist, all the songs, from beginning to end while roller skating in an empty parking lot to make sure he has enough endurance, build up his cardio and can last the whole concert. This is why he always has so much energy and is able to run around on stage and still deliver amazing vocals and not get tired.
