You know I never really thought about it before but I'd bet Bruce did great in school. That's actually really funny in an ironic way, seeing how R&R and metal is generally seen as an expression of rebellion. How many kids do you think started letting their grades slip around the time they started getting into maiden? Blasting the music oblivious to the meanings behind the lyrics. If it weren't so damned tragic it'd be funny as hell.

@@wookiespet Bruce made it through uni with a 2-2 from what I've read, and for the old classic Maiden songs, Steve Harris contributed a lot more than Bruce. (Not to say Bruce didn't contribute, because he did!) As to kids letting their grades slip? Depends on the kid, I suppose. I got extra credit in history when we covered WWII, because I memorized Churchill's speech off of Aces High.

This is a banger from Maiden. If you dig their overall vibe, the harmony guitars, the galloping bass, the operatic vocals... then you got dozens of songs yet to enjoy. They do their own thing that nobody has been able to replicate.

The Battle Of Britain was a defining moment in history. Having previously overrun other countries, and pushed the British Expeditionary Forces out of France the Nazis lost the battle. Britain remained free. Hitler’s biggest military mistakes, for me, were believing his forces could beat the Russian winter and sinking US shipping. An act of war that pulled the US into the war against the Nazis. Britain was free and no longer alone. The extermination camps and working slaves to death would have continued if the US hadn’t joined the war and that was a consequence of the Battle of Britain. Aces High celebrates the beginning of the end of a terrible regime.

no one and i mean no one has ever invaded russia during the winter months and succeeded, their spring is super wet and the summer months are the only times that you can really make any progress. when the summer months end and you try to keep going youre gonna lose ESPECIALLY if you go in unprepared like hitlers troops were, no winter coats, no winterization for their vehicles and shitty supply lines. same thing basically happened to napoleon. another point i should make as well that i forgot to mention, hitler was fighting his war on multiple fronts, soon that stretched his resources to the limit and ultimately ended the war for germany

Still the best band in this world. You haven't even scratched the surface yet. "The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" has to be heard. But "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is also mandatory. "The Sign Of The Cross" I get goosebumps every time, even though I've heard it a thousand times. I could go on forever because there are tons of good songs by Maiden and the guys are still on stage. Nice greetings from Germany. :)

Zac, you bring up something important that I've not heard in any reaction videos: Iron Maiden became metal legends _not_ out of greed. To me it looks more like they did it for the glory of being great, and their passion for making kickass music. Perhaps that motivation is a bit naive, but better that than being jaded. As for war... war isn't Human only. That behavior shows up in many social animals, which suggests that the tendency for war goes deep... deeper than even our own Humanity. Maybe it's biological. War is horrible, just like disease, famine, deadly disasters and so on, but war is a special kind of horrible because it's something we *do.* Biological or not, we need to take responsibility for our part in society, to help make it one that can resolve differences without war. But when war happens, the role changes and we do what we must to protect the interests and safety of our families, friends and neighbors.

With what you were saying at the end about how mankind always has and always will fight itself, a great Iron Maiden song to listen to is Blood Brothers, it pretty much tackles that very aspect of humanity, the lyrics still hold meaning as much today as they did when the song was written 20 years ago. You should check out some of their live performances too, that is their arena, it’s where they thrive.

This is one of the most explosive Maiden songs: There goes the siren that warns of the air raid There comes the sound of the guns sending flak Out for the scramble, we've got to get airborne Got to get up for the coming attack Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines Remove all the wheel blocks, there's no time to waste Gathering speed as we head down the runway Got to get airborne before it's too late Running (running), scrambling (scrambling), flying (flying) Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving), going in again Running (running), scrambling (scrambling), flying (flying) Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving) Run Live to fly Fly to live Do or die Won't you run? Live to fly Fly to live Aces high Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers Let off a sharp burst and then turn away Roll over, spin 'round to come in behind them Move to their blindsides and firing again Bandits at eight o'clock move in behind us Ten ME-109s out of the sun Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them Heading straight for them, I press down my guns Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving) Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving), going in again Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving) Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving) Run Live to fly Fly to live Do or die Won't you run? Live to fly Fly to live....

Although it looks like you've made pretty damn good selections all on your own. Great job! Maybe check out number of the beast, or run to the hills. My favorites (twilight zone, phantom of the opera) come off of the first album, killers. Anyway, welcome to the fandom. I like the way you gravitate toward true music for music sake, as an expression of emotion as opposed to a means of gathering revenue. If your up for other fandoms my current Favorite is Devin Townsend. He's unbelievably talented, generous, and his integrity is worthy of applause.

I post mostly Led Zeppelin on this page but I will also be listening to many other bands. This is a Rock/Metal journey so I will not be sticking to just one band

Bro, I know this is two years later, but... You can't listen to Maiden for the first time WITHOUT reading along the lyrics. The lyrics are FUNDAMEMTAL to getting the song. For example... the fact that this whole song is about the aerial dogfights between Brits and Nazis in WW2., and in particular, the heroism required to take to one of those WW2 "rattlers" (primitive planes) in a moment's notice, and taking to the skies, engaging an armed German plane to the death, involving all manner of acrobatics ..seemed to be lost on you.. The heroism is just truly touching, and as a young man in particular, it really speaks to you. It's a shame... you really can't appreciate the piece without at least that fore knowledge. I hope you revisit it, thus armed. It took me TOO long to discover how great Maiden truly is...I ignored them entirely growing up - judging them by the their art. I was wrong, and I missed out on sooo mamy years of the greatest hard rock/metal ever.

I think the song Alexander the Great is the best one that they did in my personal pick. You should do a Reaction video of it.

You should react to every song of the Rock in Rio concert in 2001/2002 🤣. Seriously though, I saw maiden live many times and always come home completely satisfied happy , they are amazing every time, but that one on Rio to me is one their best performances. Some songs from that concert in case you are interested : Brave New World The Clansman Sign of the Cross Fear of the Dark Hallowed be thy name Number of the beast The Evil that Man Do And so on. Enjoy your metal journey and check out Helloween, they are great too.
