Iron Lady - Denis Scene

They called her The Iron Lady for more reasons than one. For all her life, she put up such a strong fight (eve if you don’t agree with her). She is so commanding, and so full of strength. The only times she could slip back was with Denis. This scene perfectly portrays the theme of letting go. She loved Denis so much, and he loved her so much. That is why Denis keeps telling her to stand steady as he walks away from her. Yet, here Thatcher is, beautifully played by Streep. She starts to break her iron wall and begins to cry. She pushes it back and demands he turns around, like she always did as Prime Minister. But when that doesn’t work, her voice cracks, and she says my favorite line of the movie… “I don’t want to be on my own.” That is the moments her iron walls crumble before her. “You’re gonna do fine on your own, love. You always have been.” Such true words of love. This scene perfectly captured just what true love is, and the pain everyone will one day have to face. Wonderful scene. She so deserved this academy award. Meryl Streep did such a phenomenal job in The Iron Lady. This scene in particular hits me at just how wonderful she is as an actress. She was perfect for the role of Margret Thatcher. This scene is just beautiful.

I am trained sniper from both Swedish intel unit and Israeli special forces..so can take a lot of pain,....when I was 19 they hit me with the best shots..but I made it, i went throw the storm..but can just imagine this pain that her ladyship experienced...no boot camp in the world is harder than a lost of a loved one.... and the two Iron ladies Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcer were hard cases...they didnt back off....but everytime I see this scene I get tears.... because even Iron will brake in this scenario...and Thatchers weakness was her husband Dennis...when he died she didnt give a shit about life anymore....she just waited to meet him again....RIP Baroness and former PM....now you are free...and with Dennis for eternity mylady....you will never be forgotten...

'You always have been' isn't a sign of true love, it's a note Denis gives her how she always 'stood steady', and was actually the leader of all, and she did it alone.

I want to cry by what you just said. My dad passed away 6 years ago and ever since my mom have been dealing with so many illnesses to compared she just had the 1. It’s heartbreaking because she is a strong woman than I can ever know from all I’ve heard of her life (family abuse in front of her as a child, dealing with home abuse, poverty and starvation as a kid, her family who don’t love or appreciate her, infidelity and forgiveness, dealing with her other half’s cancer and then their death). So, to have that as an example and to see someone like Thatcher and this as to read... it splinters my heart for her.

Every time I watch this I'm reduced to tears, reminds me a lot about my grandparents and how they are growing older. Margaret may be criticized by many things but she was also a human being, a mother and in this film a wife who loved her husband.

I find something intensely sad about some of the worlds most influential leaders contracting dementia in later life. They built a legacy for the modern age and yet, they can scarcely remember who they are. Not even Shelley could imagine such a cruel fate.

I agree. I see it more often as I get older, and its painful to witness if you have a shred of human empathy or sympathy. They lose the things that bring them joy. Eventually, people are more childlike so its easier to keep them occupied, but the strain on loved ones is immense. It can be quite prolonged (+5-8 years) so thats just cruel.

“I don’t wan’t to be on my own” That line broke my heart🥺💔, This film made me have a complete different view of Thatcher she was a woman in a man’s world and she smashed through a fair few glass ceilings for other women and I admire her for that.

The thing that people don't get is that politicians, no matter how much you disagree with their policies, they are human, too. They have people that they love, things that they hold close, and memories that cannot be ignored. They can also develop disorders like the public. At the end of the day, they are human, and no bitter hatred towards them will change such fact.

This scene had me crying especially hard. I had a cat who died more than a decade ago, and about two years later, she came to me in a dream, comforting me, and for some bizarre reason, talking to me. At one point, she ran into the white light and said "You'll be fine without me."

Although she did do alot of bad things from what I understand such as unemployment in england, Being a hypocrite in a sense where she originally supported and even gave rights to LGBTQ+, Then to later in her life implement a cruel rule supressing them of right of expression, But as much as she is hated, I think that she was of course a human with feelings, and she really did die alone and forgotten, and I don’t think that people should celebrate another being’s death especially because she didn’t really do that much bad stuff for her to be hated so much.
