Why would a heritage railway scrap any engine or piece of rolling stock aren't they supposed to be sanctuaries for old rolling stock and locomotives?

They must have brought it just for spare parts and then what's left isn't useful to anyone.

I think it was one in black with orange/white stripes, that's been moved around the yard at Aviemore quite frequently if I were to guess.
