Ireland's Flood Of Asylum Seekers Since Rwanda Bill Is "Delicious Irony"

Popular Conservatism’s Andrew Allison says Ireland’s flood of asylum seekers since the Rwanda bill is a “delicious irony”, as Sunak invites them to join the deportation scheme.
Several asylum seekers have been refused accommodation at a major centre in Dublin following the dismantling of a makeshift migrant camp in the city centre, it is understood.
It comes after “just under” 290 people were removed from an encampment outside the International Protection Office (IPO) on Mount Street during a multi-agency operation on Wednesday.
In recent months, migrants have been sleeping rough beside the IPO as the state struggles to source enough accommodation for people seeking asylum.
Andrew says: “They did everything they possibly could to thwart Brexit!”

Political asylum can be granted if you are unable to live in any part of your country for fear of persecution based on religion or race. Refugee status means you need to go back when conditions in home county allows. I can't see how that is going to work. They will only take a small amount and I think Britain has to take a refugee back to Britain for everyone they send there. It's an election gimmick. It will be interesting to see if the asylum seekers from Britain going to Ireland will eventually make their way back to Britain. That will be "delicious irony". Do people not understand why the Irish don't want a border on the island of Ireland? Obviously not from all the reports I've seen from media outlets in the UK. Some of the news reports like the one above do not explain the situation at all. People in the UK don't like that France don't stop refugees coming via France but gloat about sending refugees from the UK to Ireland which is part of the CTA so relies on Britain to take back people that have applied already in the UK.

No population wants open borders. Most refugees coming in to Ireland come via Britain but with Ukrainians and the international refugees now they don't have accommodation. Having a CTA is a problem for Ireland as far as refugees as this is where most come from as they don't come direct to Ireland from other European countries. If you look at this from Ireland's point of view Britain has always caused problems for Ireland including partition of the country. I don't know if it would be beneficial for Ireland to exit the EU. This claim of 80% (actually around 5500) of migrants arriving from NI in the first 3 months of this year lacks credibility and unquestionably was made to deflect from the governments reckless open border policy leading to a major crisis and increasing civil unrest. I think the issue of Rwanda being raised almost immediately after the bill was enacted was not a coincidence, also baring in mind the Irish Court had just declared the UK as an unsafe country because of the Rwanda plan. In fact the minister, just a few weeks before was unable to answer questions in the Dáil about where immigrants, who hadn’t arrived at ports and airports were coming from. Furthermore, ID is required before boarding flights and ferries from GB to NI. So undocumented migrants could only have travelled on forged documents. I would also think that the numbers involved would surely raise suspicions at the ports. However, there is a loophole, namely the recent UK ETA policy which allows people with passports from 7 Middle East countries to visit the UK for 6 months without a visa. There is evidence that some Palestinians with Jordanian passports have used this to travel to London, then on to NI and into Ireland and claiming asylum at Ireland’s International Protection Office in Dublin. But this is a very small number relatively and certainly not in the thousands.

Israel had a "voluntary departure" scheme for 4,000 migrant deportations with Rwanda between 2014 and 2017. Most were driven straight to the border. Almost all are thought to have left the country almost immediately, with many attempting to return to Europe via people-smuggling routes. Rwandan homes that were previously earmarked to house migrants deported from the UK have already been sold to local buyers. the developer has said. Some 70% of the 163 affordable homes on the Bwiza Riverside estate have been sold, the developer ADHI-Rwanda said. On top of the £220 million Britain has already paid Rwanda, the UK government has agreed to pay an extra £150 million over the next three years, and £120 million pounds once the first 300 asylum seekers have been resettled, the National Audit Office (NAO) said on Friday 1st March 2024.

Only problem is UK have admitted they losed most of the asylum seekers in process applicants. This won't go down well with international community if the UK are just letting them go and are breaking another international agreement of return of asylum seekers from 2020.Just like agreements were broken by the UK in the Brexit process. The destruction of society of Ireland will have knock effects on business with the UK and Ireland.

The brits were/are nothing but our colonists and treated us like the blacks were treated were treated under the jim Crowe laws we had penal laws. We couldn't own land animals or businesses we couldn't practice our religion or get an education. We were pushed off our lands and starved or emigration was the only solution. They still occupy 6 counties of the 9 in Ulster we've fought them to a standstill over 800 years. All this said i hold no ill will to the British population in general that was a time and a system when the brits trod on everyone everywhere but that was a system not the British people. We have an awful lot in common and we get along in general when we mix this is important now. This immigrant thing in Irl. is a storm in a teapot that the UK right are milking for their own agenda. "High Court in Dublin has recently declared the UK an unsafe country because of the Rwanda legislation." Which is in the process of being overturned now it is inconvenient for Ireland. If it was good for humiliating the UK because of Brexit then it is good for letting the EU undermine itself. I can agree to disagree on policy issues. I wouldn't tell the Irish what to do regardless. But the British government would be wasting time trying to work with Ireland (I.e. inviting them to the Rwanda policy) when resentment of England runs so deeply in the culture. The one thing an Irishman cannot stand to hear is an Englishman saying "we're not so different you and I."
