I can sympathize with you and Alex, Clisare. It's kicking 90 degrees F here in Illinois today (I believe that's roughly 30 degrees C). Sadly, for us, 86-100 degrees F is just typical August weather. Stay hydrated, stay in the shade and be safe!

As an Australian, I definitely feel sympathy for you! 30 degrees might be an average (or below average) for us during the summer, but we rarely get the humidity with that. This past summer we had the hot and humid - 30+ degrees with high humidity for weeks at a time. It was legit the most uncomfortable I've ever felt... and I braved 47 degrees with low humidity during the 2019-2020 black summer bushfires! Humidity makes all the difference. Plus being acclimatized to it and actually having a country set up to handle tropical weather.

We hit 46C a couple weeks ago in the US Pacific Northwest, a record for the local area (this year, last year, and back in 1948), but the humidity was down to 1%. Made the heat more tolerable, but days of it dries out the vegetation and increases the fire risk. A week later, it was cloudy, in the low 30s, but the humidity was in the 40%s and almost felt worse. Still not as bad as my brothers on the Atlantic coast, where their daytime humidity is about what my nighttime humidity is.

My freaking electric bill just for 4 days of use went up $60 bucks...Help🤣🤣 I thought it was done but the next few days will be 98+ plus again😭😭 That skirt and jacket are beautiful and very sexy🥰 I remember being young and fit and I could wear those types of things. I live in Canada. We have an 80 degree temperature shift from summer to winter. Last summer it was +39C for a week and then the following winter we had the second longest cold snap in recorded history where we spent 22 days without the temperature getting above -20C as a high. Lows are in the minus thirties at night where exposed skin can freeze in seven minutes. The saving grace is that there is almost zero humidity at least, so it's easy to warm up once you get out of the cold, or cool off in the shade when it's hot. I built a house that is partially buried underground to combat this problem. Animals have know forever that digging holes in the ground is the best shelter, humans are a lot dumber. We build stupid stick and stone shacks that need systems and resources to keep us comfortable. A house in the ground is cool in the summer, like a cellar, and in winter the thermal mass of the ground around you is easy to keep and retain heat in. Anyway, good luck with heat, stay hydrated (Guinness counts) and enjoy the summer while it lasts.

50C here in Central BC last year.. hottest ever, it was so scary the trees and grass were dying from the heat then we ended up surrounded by the biggest wildfires fires in BC after being evacuated from our home, I watched the one fire start a few miles from my old home. We were fortunate enough to not lose our home at the time, but family members in Lytton BC lost everything.. we were just made homeless from a reprisal eviction from our lovely slumlord, lost our home of 6 years. Still can’t find an affordable place, that allows kids and pets, seems our climate is going crazy and economy is collapsing under Trudeau.

So I live in Maine, where its spring and summer are EXTREMELY humid and our climate is changing faster than the rest of the US. So far this summer, since the beginning of June I think there has been only one day, maybe two, no more than 3 days, where the temp dipped below 80°F. Im only 29, and never before in my WHOLE LIFE has Maine's summer been consistently above 80° every single day. It's usually like between 70 and 80 and humid, with a few days going above 80, and even less into the 90's and yesterday it was 92-95 degrees. I sleep on the second floor of my house, in a very very small room, which means two things; it gets hot because it's on the second floor and as we all know heat rises, and two, it gets hot because it's a small room and just my body heat is enough normally to heat the room. Downstairs with the air-conditioning on, it's about 80° - only 5 degrees cooler than outside. Which means it would be hotter without the air-conditioning AND it would be even more hotter than that, on the second floor. Now thankfully we got another AC to put just in my room, but before that, im pretty sure I was going to sleep in a room that was straight 90°+. Today is 85° and call me crazy but I need to exercise, so I went roller blading like i do every day because I have a flat on my bike and no money to fix it. And, im pretty sure that it because it has been so hot, the extra heat generated by the friction has literally eaten away at the materials in my roller blade wheels because for the last two weeks, every couple of days one of my wheels has just, mysteriously gone to shit. Roller blades have typically 4 wheels each with more high quality inline skates having two wheels each. I was down to my last 4 wheels today, two on each as I had to remove the other wheels since they just essentially decayed away. Since I am down to just two wheels on each, I can't lose any more, and today, yet again, another wheel went to shit. So no more bike. No more blades. It looks like the universe wants me to just sit inside and eat and get fat.

We just came out of a heatwave in Vancouver, BC last week - 6 days of solid 31-32°C weather, and like Ireland, the best some households have to beat the heat is a portable AC. There are also designated cooling centres like public libraries or community centres where people could seek refuge from the heat. Last year around Canada Day we had a crazy 'heat dome' where it felt like 40°C over the city and tragically the unrelenting heat claimed at least 600 lives. Hope the temps return to normal for you soon!

  • @theravenscatalyst

+50c here last year, the trees and grass were dying from the heatwave as well as the wildlife and the worst fire season we have ever seen in our history.. we lost an entire village to the Lytton BC wildfire.. so many homes were lost. During the heat wave I even witness Wolves and Coyotes living together with other predators and prey that are usually natural enemies, all in the name of survival. Now we are the admits of housing crisis in Canada, and it appears our economy is collapsing under Justin Trudeau, we were fortunate enough to have our home of 6 years survive a wildfire only to get evicted and made homeless during the housing crisis by our lovely slumlord all out of reprisal.

Living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies means a dry climate here in the province of Alberta. I don't take heat very well. Over 20C, and I'm sweating. I noticed one difference this summer versus last summer: the absence of smoke from forest fires in the neighboring province of BC (British Columbia). Last summer we had smoke in July, August and part of September. This summer, it's August and I haven't smelled smoke. I absolutely sympathize with your heat problems. Be glad you don't get fire from forest fires every summer. PS I don't have AC either. Apparently closing all your windows helps. For a cheap alternative, I've heard running a fan over a bowl of ice cubes helps. If nothing else, drink water. I keep mine in a Brita so I don't need ice cubes.

I’d say 30 degrees (86 for all of us from the US) is definitely time to start considering AC. I know Ireland isn’t set up for it, but if things are supposed to be warmer next year, it’s a fantastic thing to have. Even just a Widow unit for your bedroom makes all the difference in the world. It was hot here this summer (Indiana got up to 104 or 40c) but the AC made it comfortable the entire season.

I'm here in the south east of Ireland. I bought a portable air conditioner about four years ago and I don't regret it. It was very handy for the few very hot days we get here. Just beware that if you get one you will have to have a way to exhaust the heat that comes from it and that it only works best with the windows and doors closed. Also a floor stand is very quiet compared to a portable air conditioner.

You need LOTS OF FANS & take wet rags and pat down your arms, legs, neck, & face with those and then sit or stand in front of your fans. You’ll stay much cooler that way. Ice in those cold packs and keep them handy so you can set them on your head or lean back and wedge between your chair and neck to cool yourselves down quicker. Everyone in the US has air conditioning because even pretty far north where I live, we get 3-4 months of 30-35c temperatures everyday. Most of Europe only gets that hot for a couple days a year so it’s not worth it to have AC, but now you might start needing it, your power grids are not designed to have that much AC so heatwaves are going to continue to cause serious trouble even after AC starts becoming normal in Europe. Being right off the ocean in the gulf steam, Ireland has some of most moderate temperature changes on the continent, I think I saw Ireland’s record low is higher than any other country.

When it gets hot here in inland SD --- in September . typically 45 - maybe once every few years for a few days 50 degrees. Oh and yes we dont have AC. When it does get that hot we go and watch movies.

Here in southwestern Pennsylvania, we get 85°F (29.444°C) to 95° (35°C) days for most of June, July, August and part of September, WITH 70% to 100% relative humidity, usually only going down into the 70°F-75°F by 06:00, with high humidity. If you don't have air conditioning, you just want to go into the shower and stay there until October. When I got home at 5:07 p.m. yesterday, it was 92°F (33.33°C) with 73% humidity. As soon as I got out of the air conditioning car, my glasses fogged up. Just for the heck of it, I checked Miami's temperature and humidity it was only slightly warmer. 🥵 This is one reason that my favorite month of the year is October. The other is the fall color, especially of my sugar maples.

Amazon has portable air conditioners. Not those little boxes, but a real air conditioner that rolls around. You put the out take vent in a window and shut window to hold in place. They work really well and you can roll it from room to room.

I can't believe Alex is wearing a sweatshirt with another one underneath. I'm boiling! lol. I've had heat stroke, twice. And it's no joke. If you get cramps in your back or pain in your temples, that's heat exhaustion. Do what you need to to cool off and drink electrolytes. Salt helps too. And vinegar.

Hey Clare I am from the United States Midwest region. KCMO to be exact. It will to to 40 degrees C on occsion but 33 to 37 degrees C is pretty common.. A tank top, athletic shorts and flip flops are pretty common on women and men in that heat. You just have to match the colors/patterns and you are fine. I am not bragging about our heat. I have been to Ireland. You guys' infrastructure is not built for 30 degrees C. No AC would be awful. We have ac and heat in all our homes and heavy insulation to keep the cold and hot out. We are also accustomed to it and know what to do in it such as breaks, shade, water/Gatorade and so on. Good luck and stay safe. Do push it in the heat too hard.

-+ Wet a sheet and hang it - then place a fan behind it so that the fan blows the air through the sheet and towards you. It's a pretty good version of home made airconditioning...

I don’t know if this will help or not but you can make what we call a swamp cooler with a fan and a bag of ice. Just dump the ice in a basin and set the fan behind it. The air will be cool and the moisture will be great for your skin.

stay hydrated out there, especially exerting yourself in work or sport. Gatorade or something for salts and electrolytes is needed. so far where i live in Canada we had 35C but not as hot as last year with 43C for a week. i work outside rain or shine. so the extremes i have worked outside are 43C in summer and -45C in winter. not much fun either way

Being in Texas, one good tip I can give you is to fill a big bowl with ice, and out on your fan. Then you put the ice bowl behind the fan blades on a counter or something. As the ice melts, it gives you a cold vapor that blows out with the fan, and cools the air really well. It's cheaper than a window unit, and always refillable at the cost of having to wait for new ice to be made.

Good afternoon! I’m posting from Paradise, Texas. Our high today is 38°C, 101°F; with a 3° heat index, which means that it FEELS LIKE 104°F, 40°C (I really don’t know what the heat index means, because whether it is 101 or 114, and we HAVE gotten that high, it is still really freaking hot!). I sent your video to my brother and we were over here, just wishing it was 30°C!! 😂😂 but things are looking up, we have a cold front coming through next week, which will bring the temperatures down to about 34 through 32°C. That being said, we are going through an extreme heat wave and drought here in Texas, and haven’t had prolonged exposure to these temperatures since about 2012. In 2012, we had three weeks of consistent 40°C plus temperatures, one day after the other. I’m pretty sure part of my soul melted that year. 🥵 🔥

I don't know exactly how the heat index or 'feels like' temperature is calculated but it has to do with the humidity and how that adds to how hot it feels. The feels like temperature is the equivalent dry heat temperature. Here in KC we have high humidity in the summer and our heat index is 104 degrees a lot of the time if it is say 97 degrees actual temperature.
