Iran mourns death of hardliner President Ebrahim Raisi killed in helicopter crash | The World

Iran's Vice President Mohammad Mokhber is tonight acting as interim president, after it was confirmed Ibrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash. Iran's president and foreign minister were among eight people on board the aircraft, which crashed in a mountainous area near the border of Azerbaijan. The wreckage was found after a long overnight search, where rescuers battled dense fog and snow. Iran's supreme leader has declared five days of mourning. Founder and director of the Centre for Middle East and Global Order, Dr Ali Fathollah-Nejad says all indications point to an accident rather than an attack.
