Iran drone strikes were ‘decoys’ to expose Israel’s vulnerabilities

“Iran knew those drones were going to be downed anyways, they were decoys.”
Iran launched its drone attacks with lesser-weapons in its arsenal to force Israel’s allies to expend their expensive resources, and to gauge potential weaknesses in their defence, says Sayed Muhammed Marandi, professor at the University of Tehran.
Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister of Israel also joined Times Radio Breakfast.

From Wikipedia: Mohammad Marandi was born in Richmond, Virginia and spent the first 13 years of his life in the United States. Following his return to Iran, he volunteered to fight in the Iran-Iraq war and survived two chemical weapons attacks. Marandi is a graduate of the University of Tehran and Birmingham University (UK), where his PhD thesis was entitled "Lord Byron, his critics and Orientalism", described as a "response to Edward Said's Orientalism. A day after the August 2022 knife attack on author Salman Rushdie, Marandi wrote on Twitter: "I won't be shedding tears for a writer who spouts endless hatred and contempt for Muslims and Islam." The Arab Center Washington DC called the remark "troubling". --------------------- Needless to say he is far from an actual intelligence analyst. Wild to me that the Times Radio felt this was a guest worth having on without pushing back any of his statements.

Yes they were. Russia uses them the same way in Ukraine. They are the latest technology used in war. Only Russia and Ukraine have really used them. They can act as the WWII Tuskegee airmen that accompanied the planes carrying the bombs. They can accompany the true missiles/bombs and act as decoys. That's to confuse the air defense systems. They can take the hits launched at the true missiles (airmen). They can force revelations on the enemy's air defense system. They make the air defense system use up its weapons. They can also be used as weapons themselves which confuses the air defense system even more. They have changed current warfare. Iran is aware of those changes. Iran was targeting the bases and systems used to attack its embassy. It was not targeting people. It would not have given a 72 hour warning if they were. Russia uses them to destroy military facilities, military storage, fueling stations, factories manufacturing military weapons, supplies, equipment... In these instances, they aren't targeting people either. If they do, it's military personnel not unarmed men, women, elderly and especially not children.

The Iranian commentator made some very good points, especially about the decline of the "Rules Based Order" because of the perceived double standards of the West. However, he fell into the usual false economic argument about the use of "expensive" defensive weapons to destroy "cheap" offensive weapons. But it is not the cost of the weapons that is the real point, but the cost of damage to or destruction of infrastructure or the casualties that might occur if the offensive weapons got through. How many billions of dollars worth of infrastructure was saved, and how many lives, at the cost of a billion in "expensive" weapons? Both Ukraine and Russia are counting the cost in destroyed national infrastructure by being unable to intercept "cheap" attacking weapons at the level that Israel and its allies managed. THAT is the story the news media should be covering, not the easy pickings of a simplistic argument of "cheap" versus "expensive" weapons. It's not that difficult a concept, is it? 🤔

15:10 He was doing somewhat fine explaining the unexplainable, until he mentioned the Algerian representative 😂 Well, anyway. It's funny to be hiding behind wisdom when the most logical explanation is cowardice. The Iranian Regime needed to prove to his domestic audience, he's not a paper tiger.. But now that he's missed 99% of his targets, he's saying it was only a test? Algeria is a character witness for Iran's Regime.. 🤣

It is sickening to see that the same aid from allies to Israeli skies does not apply to Ukraine. The aggressor axis is the same and so is the danger of escalating! Unfortunately with this help there is no need for Mike Johnson to put the military aid to a vote in the American Congress. Despite the misfortunes, Slava Ukraini!

Very good approach - even if you do not agree (like me) you have to listen to the other side. ...because not 100% is wrong. There is a need for the western democracy system to think about changes. To bomb a consulate is unacceptable- even if there are good reasons for it and if your friend did it. Politics are politics but wrong is wrong. The UN is the body to address this - no excuses - period.

It's laughable how people cling to the word 'orientalism' and wear it like a badge of honour while completely missing Said's whole point, which is probably summarised in the first chapter, iirc. This guy's anti-colonial usage of 'The West' is merely the mimicry, reinforcement and reification of behaviours and attitudes that most of civilisation have evolved past. The bad guys simply evaporate if ignored, which is the real genocide they fear.... The death of fear towards them that inflates an illusory power in a relative microcosm.

11:12 They haven’t been used in high quantities in Ukraine at all? Who is this muppet? Ukraine has been using a few patriot batteries, loaded with 30 yr old missile types. Israel is using its home produced missiles, UK and France used air to air missiles - these might be used i Ukraine in future, but haven’t yet due to incompatibility. US ships would have likely been firing RIM missiles …which will never be supplied to Ukraine until they start buying US built warships…. This guest was not very well informed.

There is a point though... Embassy's are sacred. But for how long? Is it fair to ask to obey the rules if the agressor does not? If a high officer, responsible for main aggression, is hiding in an embassy...., of which the mother country is supporting that aggression... isn't that a legitimate target? If there is something like a rule based order, than there should also be something like an enforcing mechanism.

Three reasons: 1. It's a consulate that was struck, not an embassy. 2. Embassy and consulate, despite misinformed opinions are not territory of the country that is housed in the embassy or consulates. 3. The strikes were in Syria which is already an enemy of Israel and it struck an Iranian consulate which is also an enemy of Israel and vice versa. To make an analogy it would be like in WW2 if America attacked a Nazis Germany consulate in imperial Japan. They are all enemies to each other and have attacked each other already, this makes no difference except if one would exploit certain viewers nativity or ignorance and that matter.
