Great to see so many ordinary classics and every body behaving with no sign of litter being dropped I have been on the organising team for car events for years and I know how much effort it takes to get it off the ground especially in these enviornmentally challenging times

Thank you so much for your great comment and subscription. I am always delighted by the spectators, because it shows how important the classic car hobby and it's associated industry is to people in the UK. That is why I think as owners, we should share our cars by taking them out and making them visible 👍

The Vitesse is one of those cars that I always wanted to own but never managed to. I ended up owning a Sunbeam Stiletto and then a VW Karmann Ghia before I emigrated to the USA. Now living in Arizona.

Ooh, good car taste! I love Karmann Ghias and the Sunbeam Stiletto is exquisite. Most people don't know what a magnificent marque Sunbeam was before the war and it continued to badge Rootes finest sports cars and sports saloons even into the 80s under the Talbot moniker. I envy your rust free climate 👍

As a small boy, I was allowed to pick out the number plate for a 1600 Vitesse at the dealership. I got to know that car pretty well over the ensuing eight years and 100,000 miles. I think the colour was called midnight blue and it had a white flash down the side. Stunning looking car. My father replaced it with a Mk 2 2000 in French blue in 1973 and I did have a drive of that one. My own first car was a yellow 1973 Spitfire. I was driving it a few roads away from my parents home when I simply had to stop and reverse up. The Vitesse had been sold at a London auction but there on a drive was the number I had picked, some 20 years before - it was on a Spartan kit car.

Wow Jonathan, what a bitter sweet moment discovering the number plate. 100,000 miles was a very high mileage in those days. It sounds like your Dad was both a sympathetic driver and scrupulous about maintaining his car.

@@seanhumfrey I was just pleased to see it Sean, and amazed it was so close to home. I spoke to the owner(s), who were outside working on it, two young men a bit younger than myself and you know how it is, they were just so enthusiastic that you can't help but take a bit of that away. Yes, my father was particular about the servicing but I don't believe that kind of mileage is so special for that era as it may appear. I reckon there was an awful lot more clocking of mechanical odometers than we see today! Very nostalgic to see the fascia of the Vitesse from the back seat again. No seat belts in those days, so I recall getting the best view of the road from the middle of the bench, with an elbow rested on each of the front seat backs. Thanks for posting - it touched the spot - and enjoy!

Hello, sorry I don't know your name but I contacted you yesterday to tell you about my beloved Dylan, seeing this lovely video made me think of the classics I have owned, first it was a Triumph Herald convertible followed by a Mk 2 Vitesse convertible swiftly paired up with Dylan , subsequent cars were a Rover P5B coupe, a 1970 BMW 2002 AND A bMW 3.0 CSi all lovely cars but none I miss more than my Dylan. Loving the videos, I'm having a bit of a binge watch, Regards Mike

Mike, I feel privileged to have been able to share these with you. I will at some point do a short video explaining why I began to make these films. Suffice to say that I always hoped they would reach enthusiasts like you and I know just how much cars mark the important moments of our lives and become embedded in our sense of identity and in our memories. With my kindest regards, Sean.

  • @seanhumfrey

Great comment and a really good question! The truth is that I prefer the Mark 1. Once you know how to set it up for a corner, it becomes a joy. Driving more like ballet in a Mark 1 and all about what you feel through the seat of your pants. Interesting because Stirling, Pat Moss and I belive Jim Clarke all rode horses before they turned to driving. It suggests that primitive cars are all about balance. The Mark 2 is definitely more competent but not as rewarding.
