great videos, I am wondering if you can use the iPad Pro on Reference Mode with Thunderbolt 3 or USB C Cable. That would be really cool.

Hi! Great video, in my case I want to send the signal to obs via video capture card, I have a couple of hubs and noticed it only works with the old usbc to hdmi/usb-a from apple, but I need to get more ports, do you know what other hubs would work with this kind of setup?

Many thanks for this video, David! It also works with iPhone 12 Pro Max using Lightning/HDMI cable from Hama. The latency is slightly larger, cca. 1 sec. I still use the Filmic Pro legacy, but there are no updates... This free BMD app is so great and delivers even more possibilities! I usually use the iPhone as a ceiling, downward-looking camera with the ATEM switcher. In the case of the iPhone 12 Pro Max using the Lightning/HDMI cable, there is no ATEM camera control; I'm eager to test the case with my new unopened iPhone 15 Pro Max USB-C.

would love to see the quality os setup like that and camlink as a streaming setup

I would like to record to the Ninja's V disk and use all of the Ninja's features. Can the iPhone also recognize/record to the Ninja's V SSD at the same time?

Hi. You are very welcome. I’m still yet to see if AirPlay is an option for monitoring, either on its own as a monitor option or in combination with an external SSD. You may find this video interesting, this is using an external microphone, external ssd and also HDMI monitoring all at the same time. While this is on the iPad Pro it should all be the same for the Pro and Pro Max. The only drawback with this setup is that it’s really only useful indoors in locked off positions. What I’m wondering is… if say you came out of the iPad or iPhone 15 pro max via Thunderbolt, straight into a Mac mini would you then be able to monitor/mirror the camera within either gadget, on the Mac screen attached to a Mac mini or use the iPad as a monitor if, connected to the iPhone 15 pro max ? Never heard of Acasis before but, looked at a Caldigit thunderbolt 4 element hub so, all possible

In case anyones wondering it works the same way on regular iphone 15, just tried it.

Alright, Tone. Yes, it’s really odd and means that although the clean feed is good for monitoring, it’s not good for recording. Although, you can record to an external SSD but only if used with a powered hub or dock if you want to monitor at the same time. Cheers, Dave.

Good video Dave. I think you're right that the 15 and 15 plus would struggle due to the 480mbps transfer rate.

Alright, Kevin. Just as you mentioned in your Short, about 60Hz only on the 15 and 15 Plus. Apple are needlessly shortchanging the buyers. 60Hz and USB2 speeds on USB-C (480Mb/s) can be found on the cheapest Android phones. While budget Android phones have got 90 to 120Hz and at last 5Gb/s on their USB-C. BTW. I'm trying out your advice to make the videos quicker. This one was basically a locked off shot with a fixed focus on the phone (although I think it was slightly out 😆). The next one with will be live shortly was done in one take, mostly auto focus and just one fixed focus. I fluffed a few lines but just immediately re-took them in the one take and then cut around them in post. I'd be interested in your opinion of the next video to see if this quicker workflow is still OK looking and the video's only two minutes long. Cheers, Dave.

@@DavidHarry Yeah the speeds and display refresh rate of the 15 and 15 plus are disappointing. I know many people don't care about these things, but they're putting extremely old tech in their phones. Will be interesting to see if shorter videos do better. I'm going to try and keep videos shorter too and not spend as much time producing each one. At the moment, I'm just experimenting with shorts to see what works and what doesn't. It's low risk as people can just quickly swipe away if they don't like it.

How do i connect the external monitor, external ssd and power bank a the same time with everything operational to the iphone 15?

Use an USB-C adaptor that has a plug in with power. Use a power bank and plug all USB-C into it. It should work

I was having the same problem and I found this solution. If I use a HDMI to USB-c cable my Ninja V doesn't recognize the input. Maybe I need a different cable but I tried 3 different brands and nothing. Then If I use HDMI to HDMI with a dongle like (MOKiN USB C Hub HDMI Adapter) the Ninja V get the signal but I get a black screen. First try to connect to your phone not the Blackmagic app. Then go to Input in your options in Ninja V and try to so change the the input of your HDMI to 1.2 or 2 or let the Ninja Monitor recognize your phone. Ypu probably need to unplug the HDMI cable from the hub (MOKiN hub) plug it back and try it again if you don't get the signal. I hope somebody have a better idea if there is a specific cable we can use with out a hub.

Not with a cable, there are interfaces that can.

If you turn off the stabilization in the phone, the latency will be minimized. turning on the stabilization will gradually increase the latency, no matter standard, cinematic, maximum.

To get a clean feed HDMI output from the Blackmagic Camera App on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, all you need is a USB-C to HDMI cable. First switch on the HDMI clean feed function in the settings of the Blackmagic Camera app. Then connect the USB-C end of the cable to the USB-C port on your iPhone 15 Pro Max and then connect the HDMI end of the cable to the HDMI input of your video monitor. Once this is all done, you will now see a HDMI clean feed on your monitor from the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Blackmagic Camera App. This will also work for the iPhone 15 Pro. However, I'm not sure if this process works for the standard iPhone 15 or the iPhone 15 Plus. As both these phones use a different USB-C speed and maybe different USB-C video protocols compared to the two iPhone 15 Pro phones.
