    A top of the range Rolls Royce has limited value but still sells and makes profits. Value is subjective. The iPad Pro is aimed for people with high disposable incomes that would drop $3000 without thinking twice. It does not make it bad value for them. Anyway the base iPad 10 and iPad Air are the models for the average consumers. Denigrating the iPad Pro because 99% of us cannot afford it is very narrow-minded. We need great tech like this even at these extreme prices as their features will eventually end up on cheaper models.

    @@andyH_England that is not entirely true. These devices are aimed for pro users who use it for their professional career. Apple is not asking the average consumer of products to go any higher than their base iPad. Their events state as such. They arent asking someone who cant afford them to buy their products. Same way nobody is telling me to buy a Rolls.

    @@andyH_England This is very false, luxury items are not great value per definition. They are meant to be expensive either due to just being pricey or because they're enabling the makers to spend excessive amounts on otherwise small features. Your example simply does not make much sense from a literary standpoint. The new iPad pro is not even a "luxury item" in any perceivable comparison to a rolls royce. It's a mass market product. iPads are not just bought by very rich people it's a very common item for the masses. Value does not even have a technical definition, but logically it follows that it's based upon stationary points on the price/performance curve. Wherever that may be. Again, your comment here simply does not make sense.

    @@fVNzO@fVNzO I was talking about iPad Pros, which Apple expects to sell only 5 million in 2024, a tiny percentage compared to 135 million total iPad sales in 2023. IPad Pros are niche and luxury, aimed at consumers with high disposable incomes who will buy the maxed-out version without thinking twice. For the average user, >95% an iPad 10 or Air is the sensible choice. I stand by my initial comment.

  • @fVNzO

    @fVNzO

    @@andyH_EnglandThat's also still, mass market. In 2023 rolls royce sold 6000 cars. The comparison does not make any sense. "value" can only clearly be stated based on stationary points on price/performance curves. That's just the obvious, and only sensible way to look at it. iPad Pros are not aimed at people who just spend money to spend money. It's just another computer. I see plenty of students with ipad pros, they go on sale regularly, there are student discounts and fire sales for older models every year. It's just another apple device truly. So i don't get why you're trying to suggest its this mythical device for the elite?

    This video is a bit of an exaggeration, I purchased the new 13 inch and while it is an upgrade, it’s a very small one. My 2020 iPad screen was broken and honestly, I would be sending one this back,since that let down. If my other one wasn’t broken would be back. You literally have to have the screens right next to each other to see the small difference. My new one just came in today and I was kind of expecting to be blown away but it’s really no different at all than my 2020 iPad Pro. If you’re thinking about upgrading and don’t have to, I just don’t see the point. Oh and the new speakers built-in, kind of suck. I think it has to do with the fact that they’re trying to make it so thin, but there is a noticeable drop in speaker quality that hit me right away.

    @@FFCOACHDAN I will agree that it is a bit snappier though. I’m sure that will substantially add up overtime as the programs take more resources and the operating system. The screen is just not that big a difference in my opinion. The pencil is basically identical, besides the push button feature, but that’s kind of a minor thing in my opinion and lame that they didn’t make it backwards compatible. I just don’t see the reason upgrade for many people unless they unlock iPadOS substantially at WWDC. The speaker quality is definitely a downgrade though from my 2020 and may not matter to some.

I looked at Apple‘s website comparison page: The m2 Pro and it‘s specs chip-wise are very similar to the new m2 air. Otherwise, the only temptation to me is the Apple Pencil Pro or the potential favor towards m4 that might come with iPadOS 18 and beyond. There‘s been a lot of noise from the rumor mill. Gamers and casual users have different expectations. I prefer the hands-on real life users creating art, 3D and 2D, graphic artists, and animations. Most of us considering buying a new iPad comes from older models like my 2018 12.9 inch and here the weight reduction is cut in half compared with a 2021 or 2022 model. I would not mind someone comparing how the new ones feels in use compared with a 2018 model with regard to handheld use.

    Considering the fact that those ipads are still pretty capable in themselves, it's still not a good reason to upgrade to this. Especially with how much it screws over people that have accessories made for the other models.

    Well this wasn't a review, but a comparison video. So my stated goal was just to compare the M2 versus the M4 models. That said! The M4 still weighs less than the last three 12.9-inch iPad Pros. The 6th and 5th were both 1.5lbs while the 4th was 1.41lbs. The 3rd gen was still 1.39lbs. This new model is only 1.28lbs!

    I think comparisons aren’t hugely valuable yet till WWDC and we get to see how they’ll handle the the new AI based software. Till then they are both more powerful than what they are asked to do. Mini Led is fine.

    Will stick with my Samsung Tab S9 to do all that for now...

  • @AppleInsider

    @AppleInsider

    13 күн бұрын

    😭 Look, the Tab S9 isn't bad at all. It's a great budget tablet! But just because something says "OLED!" doesn't mean it will "do all that." To start, the Tab S9 uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. That chip is less powerful than the iPhone processor. It's multi-core Geekbench score is around 5200 -- almost one THIRD of the performance of the iPad Pro. That OLED in there, it looks nice. But it's also only around 400-500 nits depending on the model. There's a reason Apple had to put TWO panels in here when it switched to OLED. It's not bright at all! Apple used two panels to get its 1000 nits of brightness which makes a huge difference in use. I'm just touching on those two things because those are the touted new features here, but there's a big reason that the iPad Pro is where it is. Sure, other things can have OLED but they're a far cry from this.

    Yo Tim, should we put wifi 7 in the new iPad Pro? No bro, wifi6-e. But that’s the same speed as last years model, bro do what we do, send out an update to slow the wifi speed in last years model. Good thinking Mr. Crook, that’s why they pay you the big bucks.

  • @AppleInsider

    @AppleInsider

    12 күн бұрын

    So WiFi 7 was only certified in January of this year. Yes, some products have arrived in the market with it but many used pre-release versions then submitted for certification after with the assumption/hope it would pass. Apple wouldn’t do that. They’re working on making their own more power efficient wireless chip. It wasn’t rumored to show up in these and Apple is never the quickest to adopt WiFi tech. Especially since very few people have WiFi 7 routers yet.

    So, thinner for the same overpriced keyboard, a stupid fugly wart on the corner, no real benefits on battery, and the fact that software still does not use most of it. Sorry, but this does NOT replace a laptop. iPadOS sucks, sucks, sucks for professional use and that is part of the reason we only see a smattering of apps that even try to utilize the hardware. OLED is great, but again, with a iCrapOS, it is still just a toy. Oops, I should not forget, it comes in new colors. That is the piece that makes it valuable to professionals. So sick and tired of thin, light being the defacto accolades of Apple products. I would bet that the reviewer here still has a MacBook in that bag, which means it truly has NOT replaced anything. So, yes, it is nice to have it thinner and lighter, so you can still keep that laptop in the same case you carry around, rather than holding Apple's feet to the fire to actually fix the iPadOS or put the macOS on it, like it should have from day 1. But, wait... iPadOS 18 will add AI, a crap load of new emojis/animojis and that will make it worthy. Worthy of a segue to the Sponsor: Apple. I remember when Apple Journalists had the guts to call Apple out. The iPad Pro is currently a Ferrari with a V12, a $5 cheap license plate frame on the front grill (camera bump) and a 2" steering wheel and a three speed automatic transmission to actually drive it. In a month, they will add Rosanne Barr in to replace Siri and proclaim it can actually tell the time and maybe do something beyond setting a reminder and sometimes actually turning on a lightbulb.
